Fun with Deviant Art!
The journal is look pretty spiffy, TA. Thanks for the info, and many thanks to SunGryphon for giving me some tips too.
Yeah she was very helpful.
I couldn't believe how easy it was though lol!
Yeah, it takes a little trial and error, but the basics are very easy.
Man I'm going to have to start using this stuff too.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
I defintely recommend using the tutorial links that TA posted here. They are extremely helpful. Especially the template, that's what I used.
Thanks for that info - I tried it on mine for the first time tonight. Not sure how to fix the width so that the journal part stays the same - I wanted my picture background to fill the journal width regardless of how someone may have their browser window set.
But I'll keep plugging away at it!!

What is a senior and subscriber?
Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
Whenever I use that template maker, and I hit the preview button, this is what I get. How do I make it have all the colors and have the commands actually work instead of just showing the command text?

Have you paid for a subscription? Because if you don't have one, you won't be able to do all that stuff.
No, but he said you get it if you are a senior also. Have I must have had a deviantArt account for a certain period of time?

Do you know the certain amount of time it takes to become a senior?
Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
no I sure don't man. You could probably find it in the FAQ section though

All you have to do is copy that into the CCS block at the bottom of your journal, all that text is the commands to make your preview page (which appears below the text) appear that way in your actual journal. Just copy and paste the whole kit and kaboodle over.

BAS isn't a subscriber though Buck!
I misunderstood him, I thought he said he was a senior member. My bad. My head is swimming trying to work with all these new graphic toys.
Also if any of the artist are looking for free brushes for either gimp or photoshop, DA is a veritable treasure trove of goodies!
And I quote:

How do I become a Senior Member?
The first rule of becoming a Senior Member is not asking how one becomes a Senior Member.

Maybe I'm just really tired today, but this response really ticks me off. They are a business, and should inform their customers.

Wow, I can finally bold my text now.
Thanks TA.
Oh c'mon, you can pimp your page more than that!
Come join us, we all float down here!

Hey gang!
Just been fooling around with the little things you can do in DeviantArt Journals and playing around with some codes to make my site look a little cooler! I thought I'd share with my friends some of the info I have gathered!
The following information is thanks to Megumiko and Sungryphon
I wanted to know how to get a named link to post instead of just having it say ([link]) so I asked Megumiko and this is the information she gave me:
[ QUOTE ]
They work like this: using the the lesser and greater then arrows (<> in stead of the brackets, I type [a href="http://www.lynndaniel-art.com"]My Web Site[/a]. And for the darker text (like in Gullum88), I throw a bold code: <b>[a href="http://www.lynndaniel-art.com"]My Web Site[/a]</b>. The only thing that shows is the descriptive text, not the actual web address, and as long as I close my tags, the only thing that's bold is the text between the B's.
[/ QUOTE ]
So that really helped me and I started seeing all these colorful Journals eveywhere and noticed SunGryphon's so I asked her and this is what she told me:
[ QUOTE ]
Hey, tis easy! All you have to do is add CSS to your journal. Do you have that turned on? It's a link at the bottom of your journal when you update. It'll make a box you can put CSS in (and just leave it there, much like the header and footer carry over every journal). You can make your own from scratch using this template which is specifically for dA (and also what I used to make mine). If it doesn't load right away, just refresh and it should come up. They have a link on there to an HTML color picker so you can get the codes that you need.
DA itself has a huge CSS resource pool so you should be able to find plenty of ideas to turn your journal into something snazzy.
stealthiscss seems to be a good jumping point too (don't let the name fool you, they actually don't LET you take their CSS :P but they do have contests)
[/ QUOTE ]
Now to use CSS in your journal you have to be a subscriber or a senior
So then I got that all going on for me and I wanted to know how to put the little thumbnail pictures into my Journal and Sungryphon told me this too:
[ QUOTE ]
Thumbnail links are easy
Every deviation has a thumbnail link already prepared for use, all you have to do is copy/paste it into your journal. All it is is :thumb in front of the deviation number followed by another : For example, now would be a perfect time to use these, since you're doing journal features.
:thumb40065378:
:thumb41258248:
:thumb47677383:
I usually put my thumbnails in a row so they take up less room
:thumb40065378::thumb41258248::thumb47677383:
[/ QUOTE ]
Now the CSS looks confusing at first but don't let it intimidate you, it's really not! I was able to figure it out using that template she gave me.
For an example of what it can look like check out my DA site! I think it's looking spiffy!
Hope this kinda helps ya guys!
