some of you have seen and enjoyed my micro heroes and I love making them for you guys and I don't plan on stopping. But it's made realize just how much I really suck at drawing. The whole reason I do micros, is because I can't draw.

I'm a good design person. I take pieces and put them together well. But I really really want to draw. I have these visions, of my characters and Non CoH stuff that I really really want to see on paper and I just can't do it. I try... I read tutorials, buy books, download hundreds of Timm templates and other Evo templates and assorted other templates and I just can't produce the things I see in my head.

Sometimes it almost makes me want to cry.

Anyways... I just had to get that out. I'll go hide back in my micro thread now.

I've had the same problem for like 30 years (not to depress you) -- don't let it get you down. You, no doubt, have other talents that tip in your favor.

That's what I keep telling myself.

what I did was I went and bought a sketchbook and started playing with ideas. I'm using straight lines, bubbles, sketching, just playing with different methods. Sketch from head to toe, and from toe to head. Just a thought. I'm actually liking what I'm seeing come out. once I have a bit more confidence I'll post. Sometimes when I do post something the reaction is...less the desireable so...anyway. You have a talent and have fornd it in your micros!

Oy.. Just because you don't think you're good, that doesn't mean you have to get down about it. Post some of your work here. What REALLY helps is someone to critique your work. Books and tutorials help too, but I think critiques are the best thing. Ya gotta practice. I know, I know, everyone says that, but it's true. Practice is really good for your art. Keep at it!

What Derek said

Also, try starting out with simple costumes, and simple poses. Do a "/e akimbo" (hands on hips) pose - There really simple and let you focus on getting better at other stuff. Once you think you have that done, try some other poses. Remember, everything is art, and all art is good, 'cuz its what you feel, and, for everyone, that is different.

This is sort of where I am right now, except it's not because I can't draw, but I'm currently struggling with a mental block that stands between me and my sketchbook. Maybe you're in the same situation but haven't figured it out yet.

I think you're getting too frustrated trying to do something you're not comfortable with. The key to art is finding yourself a "niche". Let's say, each artist has a certain style and a range of techniques that they use...all you really need to do is find that certain style that "works" for you.

And, if you want some encouragement. Read http://www.machall.com and look at his 1st pages and then compare it to his current ones...and let's not even go into talking about how he's currently working for Three Rings (a video game company). So yeah, don't lose hope!
