OOC: Death and RP

I'm at a particular state with one of my main characters: in essence, she's on the brink of dying. Of course we all do that "my character dies but comes back" routine, but the difference here is permanent death. What do you people think of this? If you truly tire of a character do you RP a "final" death for them or do you simply have them "disappear"? It's been bugging me for some time now... on one hand I have fun playing her but on the other RPing her storyline is becoming frustrating. Would you willingly kill-off a character for good? If you have, did you regret it? What were the effects? And did you find yourself wanting to bring them back later on?

You can always bring a character back, even after a supposed death. If you want her back, take her back. But if you tire of her, a supposed death here and there can spruce up a story.

As for me? No. I love me boys.

I've killed a few characters "permanently," just remember that anything you do to your character is up to you in the end. What would be the most fun for you?

I intend to kill off one of my main characters, not because I tire of them, but because it advances his story, what with the symbiotic Kheldian thing.

However, as Mecha said, in the end, what happens to your character is entirely up to you.

However, I do beg you not to pull a Jean Gray, what with the whole 'died over 10 times and still goin' strong!' routine.

Heh. Hey, this is a comic book superhero game, that's what superheroes DO! They never die!

I might kill off Cybrus eventually... then bring him back... as Cyberlord! That's what happens in the stories I feature him in, so I may as well do it here!

Eh, when Experiment finally dies in something other than a 'More lives than one' RP, his Kheldian symbiote will take over, killing 2.0, never having his personality, or even looks, again.

Hence, his character actually DIES.

Same with everyone else. I never did like those campy comics where the hero seemed to have died, and came right back, so I will not do the same here.

However, the one in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was rather funny, just as every one before and after that... Loved those "He is dead..." "Oh? Who is dead?" "You ar- [censored]?!?!"

I've permanently killed off a character, because I deleted her, and worked it into a story to make my villains seem more sinister.

Make sure when you kill 'em you get a nice bang out of it, and that it's not a character you'll regret having died later.

Warning!!!

Essex or Hall might find this forum.

But since they haven't yet I'm officially saying it here.

The PERMENANT death of several of my RP characters is at hand.

But yeah it's your choice man. I've just god modded thesse guys accidentally too much and also I'm jammed with RPs now and these guys suck.

Yeah... I even made 2.0's non-permanent death dramatic. However, the fact that the little pink android he came to save unwillingly turned on them and slashed his throat open probably helped with the angst.

Well, instead of deleting them you could retire them and use them when needed by respecing them a little with Hover/fly, some invisibility, a green smoking tendril aura costume with lots of drab gray and black and TADAAA! you have a Ghostly hero that can run roleplaying events for your friends that involve a message from the great beyond (like bringing his or her killer to justice).

Plus, the hero can always come back from the dead to help your SG with missions

If you really tire of them, sure, kill them off, but...
Just in case, don't delete them.

If you ever find yourself wanting to play them again, give 'em a costume change and have them be a ghost!

It's a superhero comic world. Death is never perminate. How many times has Jean Grey died? Superman? Yet they're still hopping around like normal.

Unless you are absolutly, 1000% sure you are not going to RP that character anymore, keep the option open. Worse comes to worse, she's a dimention counter-part of the original who got arrived somehow.
