Rikti War Stories

(OOC: OK, some backround: In the CoH/CoV universe, the Rikti war was *supposedly* a massive global conflict. Cities attacked in the same way as Paragon and the like. Now, a couple things have bothered me:
1) We never hear about what happened to cities outside Paragon. What happened to all those other countries?
2) Aside from aliens and robots, everyone should have memories of the war. I'm sure the stories are out there.
The purpose of this thread is to give people a place to place and read the Rikti War Stories. I also encourage people to be creative and use a character NOT from Paragon or the Rogue Isles
Anyway, my first story is Ukyo Sae's. Perhaps later I'll write out Bright Star's.)

"Sae-chan! Wake up!" came a warm, yet stern voice.
At first, Ukyo Sae, age fourteen, thought it was part of her dream.
"I don't wanna work today, old lady..." she mumbled.
"OLD LADY?! I'm still in my thirties you good-for-nothing daughter!" Sae's mother flipped over the futon, smashing her.
"Aah! Mom! S-sorry..." Sae said sleepily, pulling the futon off herself.
She got up and made her way to the tiny bathroom. Looking in the mirror, she pushed her dyed-blonde hair out of her eyes and began the morning ritual of teeth brushing, face washing, hair styling, and make-up applying. Then, her mom came in with a wash rag and made that last one disappear.
"No make-up at school, Sae-chan," he mother chuckled.
Sae just grumbled and started changing into her uniform.
She had no idea just how long it would be before she'd change out of that uniform.
Grabbing her bag and a piece of toast, she began the trudge to school. It was a short ride to the school's train stop, as always. Due to her mother's insistance on getting her up early, Sae was the first one in the classroom, even after having stopped by a convenience store to purchase some bread for breakfast.
She reclined in her assigned chair, and watched as the other students began to arrive.
It seemed like a fairly normal day...May 24th, 2002 (OOC: The date's correct )
However, at about ten thirty, during History class, the entire school's attention was drawn to a collection of flickering lights hovering above the city, one not more than a few kilometers away from the school itself.
Three hours of questions and worries passed. Radios tuned to news networks, and NHK was in a frenzy.
Then...they came through.
The city was in turmoil. The SDF mobilized, but was powerless against the Rikti.
Troops poured out from the portal closest to the school, resulting in blood curdling screams of dying agony reaching the students of the school.
Naturally, the surrounding areas were evacuated in moments to take refuge at the school, which the SDF positioned themselves to protect at all costs.
All seemed lost, however, as the Rikti began to advance upon the soldiers.
The students scrambled and hid under their desks, not that it would do any good. Fear gripped their small bodies. Fear for themselves, fear for their families. Some tried to leave...but Sae knew better.
"Everyone stay under your seats!" she exclaimed. That day, no one from the second year Pomegranate class would die, because Sae didn't even let them leave the room. Not that they could, she blockaded it when she left to face the Rikti herself.
She had no idea what she was doing. She was just one girl! Sure, she was pretty good at sports and had good grades, but she was just a girl!
In the courtyard of the school, a battle ensued between a group of heroes that had made it to the school, and the invading army.
One of the heroes caught her eye.
It's him! she thought, Yukito-kun!
Standing there, blushing, she didn't notice the Rikti aiming for her...
Yukito had been her boyfriend. Her first love. He was a few years older than her, and had obtained a hero license in Paragon City. He would show it off to all the girls, obviously using it as a tool to get into their pants.
Until he met Sae. She seemed...different. When she asked him to stop hitting on girls with his hero license, he had seen an honesty, a conviction in her eyes that told him...don't say no.
Soon after, they began dating. He joined a local hero group, and she continued to go to school and play the doting girlfriend. One day she hoped he'd even be her first...
One round from a Rikti rifle changed that.
Sae watched Yukito's limp, burned body hit the ground, his sword that he valued so dearly falling at her feet.
"Kyotsuk...ette..." escaped his lips. He couldn't even take a dying breath, his lungs were disintegrated. He just lay there, lifeless. Her first love, dead before her eyes.
Most girls would turn into a nervous wreck, shout "NO!" and cradle the dead body. Most girls would get shot about now.
Sae was not most girls. She had no metahuman powers, she had no formal training. All she had was rage, and faith.
She grasped her dead boyfriend's sword, and hefted it. It felt light, and it seemed to...accept her? What was this sword?
She didn't care. The Rikti that had killed Yukito didn't live long after that.
It was quite a sight for the arriving refugees and soldiers.
One girl, with tears streaming down her face, standing amongst a mass of Rikti and human corpses. Not one Rikti corpse lay behind her.
Thus began Ukyo Sae's life as a warrior, protector, and leader.

To be continued...
