I agree. The second one is very busy and focus is mixed on the background and the subject. There is no doubt about the focus on the subject in the first one.

One comment: the "No Pets" sign. Is that on the railing she's leaning against? It must be rather small, if that's the case.

anyways..gwens' pet will be in the lower right..eating a snow cone...should look cute..

I await the final version! I'm especially interested in finding out if the inker has a breakdown while trying to capture all the great detail in the background.

Holycrapwow is that great, and that's understating it. Love the low perspective, and the background details make my eyes quite happy (I am so writing Capes 'n' Cocktails into a story of mine, if you're okay with that). I notice you kinda took liberties with adding the lighthouse, and having palm trees be native to Rhode Island 
but it's all good. Both this pic and the alternate one looking down on the city have this great, postcard "wish you were here" feeling to them, grand stuff
