N.E.M.E.S.I.S.- The Greek Pantheon

Our list of Deities is growing in N.E.M.E.S.I.S., the Greek Pantheon on Protector, and so are our plot twists. This is a Heavy RP Organization that is more concerned with character development than quick XP, and the members are really getting into the Mythical tale telling. :-)

Some of them think they *are* Gods. Some know they're not and pretend to be. Some don't try very hard, but have taken the name for their own unscrupulous purposes. Some seek the origins of Godhood, and some are just trying to figure themselves out. It all makes for an appropriately mythical Olympian game of intrigue, battle, romance, and betrayal.

Think about a real life person and how they became a super being. Then think about why they would want to join a guild of the Greek Pantheon. Now you have something.

We already have:
Megaera of the Three Furies of Tartarus
Phospheros, The Morning Star
Persephone, Goddess of the Underworld
Lord Aries, God of War
Lord Thanatos, God of the Dead
Lord Erebos, God of Darkness
Aphroditie, Goddess of Love and Beauty
Hecate, Goddess of Witchcraft and Chaos
Achilles, Legendary Mortal
Lord Hephaestus, God of Fire and the Forge

If you can stay in character contact Megaera, we'd love to see you. There are over 500 options from the Pantheon to choose from. The Greek Mythology page of GodChecker.com (below) has an especially inspiring intro blurb.

Lady Persephone sat in silence, alone in the darkened gazebo in Port Oakes, simply gazing at the rising moon. Her last battle had been a bloody, but important, one – the one that solidified her position as head of both Mafia families on the Island. It wasn’t meant to be that way, but there it was. It was a point in time which could not be altered, all founded on a moment on desperation.

A single tear streamed down her cold, hard face, as she remembered the tide of events that lead her there, beginning with the man she knew, the man she loved… the man who is no more.

He was on the outs with NEMESIS, and wished to return to the city streets, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave her. Persephone couldn’t bear to see him go, the man she’d grown to adore, but wished to remain and build her Pantheon. She wanted a future with him, and stability based on a strong foundation. In the end, he gave up everything, and swore to remain by her side.

Her heart, now nearly completely calloused with time, let out a sharp pang at that moment past, when she allowed him to leave that night! No kisses were exchanged, no declarations of love shared, but it was there. Oh, what she would have changed had she known.

When next they met, he didn’t know her - not like he should have. All he knew was the Mythical Persephone, wife of Hades. His drastic measures to fit in with her Pantheon had destroyed his mind! The man that she could talk to about the nature of Godhood, about theories, thoughts, feelings, and life was gone. Only Lord Aires, God of War, remained, and he cared nothing for Persephone, the woman who truly was.

Persephone noticed mortal eyes upon her from the Quartermaster's post just down the street, and quickly wiped her tears away. No one must see weakness in the “Queen of the Underworld”. Not now. She stared down the villain for a moment, and when they moved on, she resumed her thoughts.

How happy she was when she saw Aries reborn! The sacrifice he’d made, the proof of his love! He was so cold, though, so cruel. He spoke to her like a child, like Lord Hades’ property. It added tragedy to torment when his “long lost love” Aphroditie came to the Pantheon – an equally cold woman who plays the part, but casts him aside simultaneously.

The day Aphroditie came found Persephone in a haze of depression, in the base, tending her plants. Up to this point, she had been a caring councelor to all new recruits of the Pantheon, but she no longer cared. Doctor Aeon, her family’s rival, knew who she was from her past and had been watching her. She had found a link between the Ancient Gods and the Mutant gene, something she and some members of the Pantheon had been speculating for some time. And… she was dying inside. No one had been there for her; no one had once listened.

She had to pull her self out of Hades. Nobody was going to help her. She had to face that her Aries was never coming back. So, that night she took control, said farewell to her heart and soul, and hello to Billy Heck.

Now she sits, undisputed “Queen of the Underworld” of Port Oakes, alone, still wishing for one kiss. Persephone sighs, before whispering to herself, or perhaps the moon, “That will never happen.”

To Sir Vincent Brash
From Lady Persephone

Dear Sir Vincent,
I am sure that you are surprised to be hearing from me, but I can assure you if you read on, much will be understood. I can assure you that I have a lot to say that will interest you, and we are far from strangers though I know you’d never expected this pairing.

I am, in fact, Kora Thornton of the Atlas Park Thorntons. I am certain you presumed me dead, and I ask now that, to all others it remain that way. Perhaps in the days when I knew you, I had no interest in the services you could provide, or the underhanded methods in which you provided them. However, you are no doubt aware of the way in which I do business these days. I am sure we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.

I have something you want, and I have need of your expertise.

As I recall, you were doing research on the mutant gene. With this endeavor, I know I will be able to greatly assist, in exchange for your results.

In order for you to understand this proposal, I must first begin with the reason for my leaving my estate. As you know, I seemed quite happy there, and I’m sure leaving my family wealth and comfort behind must seem quite irrational. However, perhaps you heard of the earthquake that sent me down into the cave below my garden? I had always had a green thumb, as you know, but once I hit my head many things changed. In the week I spent in that cave, I experienced then horrific visions, which I have now accepted as memories – racial memories, if you will. These memories have guided me in unlocking the ability to control plants at will.

I know that a man of your knowledge and study understands what I am saying.

One name came to mind during these memories, and that was “Persephone”.

In any case, I knew I needed to leave. I was changing, inalterably. My money and responsibility had become a cage, and the memories had begun to change me in ways that were not compatible with the lifestyle of a billionaire. I do not know that I can explain further, except that I needed freedom to seek the origin of my memories.

Once in the Rogue Isles, I found a group of Greek Deities, or persons claiming to be such, called N.E.M.E.S.I.S., and joined them in hopes that they had some answers. I won’t go into details for security reasons, but I will say that at least one of them seemed to agree that the Ancient Gods were actually mutants who either took advantage of normals, or they bought the mortals’ fear and believed themselves Gods as well. I agreed with this theory, and (here’s where you come in) I believe I have found a link to support it.

Not long ago, in a lair of the Snakes, I found an artifact called the Phylactery of Alecto. In case you are not aware, Alecto is one of the Furies of Tartarus in Greek Mythology. However, the contents of this ancient phylactery is said to give super-human power. I still have it for you to research.

This, taken with my increasing memories, perhaps a blood sample, could provide answers beyond both of our imaginings concerning the link between the Ancient Gods and Mutants. I do now remember a good deal of the true Persephone, and I continually remember more. She did exist, Sir Vincent; I am her descendant. I know that she was unlike the myths, yet there was truth behind the tales yet. I dare not share this with my Pantheon, but I hope that you will take me up on this unique offer.

If you are amenable to this arrangement, contact me discreetly.

Sincerely,
Lady Persephone

<OOC: If the storyline intrigues anyone, the evil Scientist Sir Brash would be an interesting character in the mix, but I'm not soliciting for one. Only if it *really* grabs you and you can stay in character.>

I’m just a Mercenary, right. I’m about as down to earth as a person can get. I don’t know much about this God sh*t, and to be honest, I never really cared to. I came to Rogue Islands to find this group of Geeks, I mean Greeks, as a free meal ticket, ya know? Sure, I figured they were likely all a bunch of nuts, but they’re doing well, so I figured, hell, I throw a “Lord” and “Lady” around here and there and I’m in like Flynn.

I learned the names of a few Gods and I figured my Arcane skills would carry me through… and it did. I found nutcases all right (people who really believed they were Gods, no less), but there were a few sane ones which made for plenty ‘o intrigue… and opportunities that make any good shyster, like me, drool. Just recently, though, I found something out about myself. Funny.

So, I was setting one of my schemes into motion, or trying to. I was talking to this guy all mortal-e-mortal like, and this guy says he can’t trust me because the gods are petty! Holy backfire, Batman! Now, it’s not like I can tell this guy that I’m not a God (or laugh, like I wanted to), ‘cuz he’s hung with us before; I had to think around him, but that’s not the point. Point is he got me thinking, and it’s dangerous when that happens.

Like I said, I never knew much about the Gods; I only learned what I needed to to fake my way past the gate. So, I figured I’d surf my way to Aphroditie. To my surprise, what I found was like reading about myself! What a scoundrel she was, yet everyone seemed to fall for it. Ah, a girl after my own heart! On further thinking, perhaps I do fit in here. Not with the nuts, of course. I mean, I sure as hell don’t think I *am* her, but maybe it’s not about really *being* them…

It’s the spirit of the thing.

Felice

Felice Gabelle was about as normal of a girl as you could get, considering her above-average IQ and unique interest in Greek Mythology. The Quebecois native fought her picky, disapproving parents to get into the best possible college in Paragon City, a plight that came to a tragic end. All of her big dreams were forgotten the night the petite Miss Gabelle received an unexpected drink invite from the Star Player of the Football team. Even more unexpectedly, were the five other teammates who awaited her when she arrived…

That night, while they all had their way with her, a new personality was born - one who could handle the pain, the hurt, and the shame. Even more, it was Megaera of the Three Furies of Tartarus, one capable of bloody revenge.

College life after that waned. Felice’s parents gave her nothing but grief, knowing that her dreams were “doomed to failure” anyway, but the icing on the cake was the trial when every last boy was set free without so much as a slap on the wrist.

Embarrassed and ashamed, Felice gave up on her future, retiring to a cheap little apartment with a moderately paying job at a local library where she spent her days. When she went home, she locked the doors several times, sat down with her tales of Greek Mythology and wished that heroes really existed.

Megaera

Too weak upon her birth, Megaera began to train with each moment of her realization. All she knew was that she was a Fury, brought up from Tartarus to dish out the Righteous Anger of Zeus, to punish those who had escaped Justice. She also knew about Felice, “the precious one”, the one she must protect from the world.

Each night, she trained harder and harder; she took over Felice’s body longer and longer until she could leave all night, using her telekinetic powers to right the wrongs done to her. Soon all six of those boys were nothing but blood splotches and powdered bone on the pavement.

N.E.M.E.S.I.S.

With Longbow hot on her tail, Megaera made her way to the only place she could think of where she could regroup and perhaps find others to join her cause, and who other to conscript than those of the Greek Pantheon? Surely if she existed, then others must be about! It didn’t take long for her to find others who were crazy or simply willing to play along enough, and soon the Greek Pantheon was reborn – named for the bloody Goddess of Zeus' Righteous Anger. Together, they would make mortals remember and fear the Dieties of old once more!

She became an inspiring leader whose zealotry and single-minded purpose drove others to be caught up in the same dream. However, from her position of power, Felice has begun to stir, trying once more to surface and Megaera, as protective as she is, has chosen to face her past and allow it to happen.

So what happens now?

Last thing I remember about my life is me waking up in some cell with other powered crazed men. The Guards talk about me saying I beat down five Skulls leaveing them in a broken bloody mess of their own blood. I couldn't help but smirk. I didn't remember the fight but the thought of it got me excited. Thats when it happened.

BOOOOOM!!!! The whole build shook violently and I saw black soldiers running into the cell block opening fire on any longbow or guard in the room.

"ARACHNOS!!!!!" I heard a Longbow agent yelling.

Arachnos? what were they doing here? I had no clue but as they came storming in, my cell door flung open. I took this chance to get the hell out.

"DOM!!" I heard come from the rear of me as I was steping out of my cell. I turned to look and it was a cell mate of mine named Red Thunder, or at least thats what he liked to be called.

"Whats up Red?!" I had to yell because of the loud gun shots and screeming that was going on in the back.

"Nothing much brotha, just trying to stay alive! You heading out right?! Lets blow this place together, two is better then one!" Red was pretty strong, I've notice this when two powered fools tried taking his lunch one day and he electrified their [censored] so bad you can small the flesh burning all through out the lunch room.

"Agreed! Lets go!" I started to head for the exit, and notice alot of the other inmates where helping these so called Arachnos and were jumping the guards. Bah...I didnt have time for that [censored]. I ran straight for the exit.

When Red and I got out, the courtyard was full of Arachnos, Longbow, Inmates, and Prison guards. All going at it. Powers; bullets; and grenades were coming from left and right, you had to stay low as to not get wacked by anything. God forbid a grenade hit one of us in the head....If one was going to, I hoped it was Red and not me.

After dodgeing all the incoming fire we made it to an inmate named Sakai Tamaki.

He called us over and said, "Hey....You two, listen. I know whats going on here, and I'll help you get off this place but first you have to do me a favor."

I wasnt to trusting of inmates but with all thats going on I wasnt sure how to get off this Island. So I took him up on his offer."Fine, it better not be a long one, we dont have time, plus if your info is wrong......*smirks slighly* we're going to enjoy riping your spline out and feeding it to you."

Sakai takes a step back and his eyes widen, "Na, I wouldn't do that. I to dont have time to mess around, but I have to make sure these four guys dont make it out of here. Shank'em and come back to me. I'll give you the info on what to do next."

He gave us the names of the guys he wanted dead. They were nobodies. Nobody I knew anyway. So I didnt care and took the job. Red came along and helpe out. We found the four beating down some cop and as much as we would of loved to sit back and watch this continue, we had to get moveing. Longbow was coming down fast and hard. So......I powered up!

My body became infused with rage, electrical rage. As did my boy Red. He and I shared simular powers, our rage was untameable....I charged in with out a thought except for one...."break'em!"

That was what we did. My fists collided with the faces of these men and with a thunderous sound broke their jaws. It was Jab, Jab, right cross! My hands were to fast for them to see and left them crippled on the ground. My two were down. They had no clue as to the name of that truck that hit'em. I couldnt help but smirk for a moment. I couldn't wait till I put my real skills to the test.

BANG, BANG!! Gun shots came from behind me one nicked my shoulder, the other flew pass me. DAMN IT....gotta stay focus, this place is a mad house! I turned, and it was two more inmates, most of been friends of these two jerks I just took out. I looked over to Red. He was doing fine. His fist were covered in this type of electical field. He was pure lighting. So I focused back on these men. They looked scared now. They knew I was coming. They started to make a run down the courtyard looking for more help. I gave chase and cought up with them. My fist came hard across the back of one of their heads sending their body into a foward flip and landing on his back. The next one took a swing at me with his gun. HA.....To slow I ducked it came back up with an uppercut that put him on his [censored], Knocking him out completely, or killing him. Didn't know didnt care. I turned to the next who still had some life in'em.....but not for long. *smirks* He slowly gets up, I let him ofcourse, and stood there in shock and fear.

I taunt'em "Come on....I'll let you take one shot, if you dont kill me......I'm going to kill you." The thug started to shake. I noticed his pants were damp. "Are you kidding me?!" I said to him.

With a blur of darkness my fist smacked across his face, shattering it to pieces. It was the first time I have ever seen that happened. Somthing in me was changeing. What? I dont know. All I knew was that I was going to get out of here and hopefully find out.

Sakai held up to his end of the bargin. He told us of an Arachnos Pilot who was taking prisonors off this place and taking them to Rogue Island. This was great, I'll chance to get out of this place. So we took it.

We found the pilot.

"You two must be the ones Sakai tamnki told me to look out for. Ok listen up....I'm taking you guys off this place but first I need you to get my co-pilot Jenkins. He was suppost to help arm an explosive and get back here, I have'nt heard from him since. Get him and plant this bomb and I'll take you to Kalinda."

I remember not liking this guy already, but we had no choice at the moment.

When I found the bunker I heard sound coming from the distance. When I got a closer look, it was Longbow. They had Jenkins. They wanted info from him on who was Arachnos breaking out, that got me thinking. So Arachnos was here for someone perticular. I wounder who? Anyway I stoped waisting time and charged in, I wanted to get of this place already, and started swinging. Longbow were no thugs. These two guys came out swinging and shooting. I dodge a few took acouple of necks here and there, and even took a knock to the head with the back of one of their guns. I still kept coming. They never saw anything like me before, or so I thought. I moved with grace and rage. My fist were leaveing trails of darkness, every punch they took seemed to leave them in a weekend state. Enough for me to dodge their blows and finish them off with a combo of blows that left them both broken bones on the floor. Jenkins seemed in awe as to what just happened.

I shook'em out of it, "Wheres the bomb suppose to go Jenkins?! HURRY! We need to go now! He gave me the location and we ran off. The place was guared, but ofcourse it would be, so we pulled the group out. One by one Jenkins and I took them down. After which we laid the bomb in place and set it up. We then head outside and I met up with Red again, who was doing somthing similar but in another bunker. When we got back to the pilot he seemed happy he could now leave. As was I.

We boarded the Chopper and took off. As we were arriveing to the Rogue Island I heard alot of talk of this contact we had to see. Her name was Kalinda. I didn't like what I was hearing. I just got out of this joint and now I was suppose to go to work for some woman I dont know? Was I some sort of slave to these people? HELL NO!......I have my own plans once this bird lands, and it has nothing to do with this Kalinda.

Hours Later....I notice Mercy Island coming up. Thank god. I had told Red about what I was going to do when this chopper landed. He was with me. He wasn't feeling the idea of just getting his freedom and haveing to work for someone who he didnt even know.

The chopper begains to land, the pilot yells, "This is were you guys get off, AS soon as you step foot on the soil you report to Kalinda. She will have your assiments ready for you. Understood!" Red and I just nodded.

The doors fly open Red and I Jump out calmly and look around. The whole area was surrounded by these Arachnos freaks.....Great. How the hell are we suppose to do this now? I wasnt giveing up though. I will NOT....... work for these nuts. So as the head pilot came out of his cockpit and addressed someone he called the Arbitar, Red and I took this as our chance. Red leaped out onto the pilot and brought him to the ground. I charged toward this Arbitar and speared him, pushing him close to the edge of the fort we were located on. It turns out that this Arbitar was no joke....he didnt go down. Infact he held on to me and stoped short and threw me to the side as if i wieghted nothing. I landed off the edge but managed to grab on the the ledge.

Red was doing well with his target. Beating him down and then holding him up as shield...Me on the other hand.....well lets just say things were not looking up for me. In fact down was the only way to go now.

When I looked back at Red he was surrounded now by other Arachnos soldiers, all guns pointed at his back.

The Arbitar looked down on me, "Did you really think that foolish plan was going to work? I should have you shot and killed right now......but lucky for you I can not. You may be this "Choosen One" that Lord Recluse is hoping for. So for now your spared but dont try that again." As he reaches down to help me up from the ledge I was in all types of confusion.

"Choosen One" I thought to myself. "Ha I know I'm no choosen one, and If I stick with these crazy I'll be working for them for a long time I'm sure. Not to mention they most likely will kill me once they found out that I'm not there "Choosen One." Screw this, I'm out of here." Yelling out to Red, " RED!!! LETS BLOW THIS PLACE!!!" I realeased my grip on the ledge and threw myself to the sand blow....Moments later Red took a dive right behind me.

THUMB!!! was the sound it made when our bodies hit the sand. It wasnt a pleasent sound either. It hurt like hell, and we may have broken a bone or two, but we got up and made a hop for it.

Arachnos soldiers were sent out to retrieve us but we found a place to hide behind, some dumbster not far from the fort. When we got there, some huge looking man wearing a green robe came out of the shadows.

"Hello there, I see your not on good terms with those spider over there." he whispered to us.

"No [censored], Now can you please shut up and get your big [censored] out of the way, before they see you and find us." I said pissed off.

"Sure...but I have a propition for you. A way to bust heads and make money, and the heads you'll be busting will be those fools. What do you say?"

After thinking about it for a few, and seeing it will be the only way to get this big tree to move and shut up, I agreed, as well as Red.

"Great, my name is Burk. See me when you are ready, I'll be around here, just call my name." he fades into the shadow.

For a big man like that I never thought he could do that. But whatever....money is money and busting heads is busting heads. So we laid low and waited for those Soldiers to give up their search.....

Name's Matt Hayden. Guess you could say I was always a bit of a troublemaker. When I was a kid, I was always gettin' in scrapes, and fights. One day I guess this one punk got me extra P-O'd 'cause I put him in a wheelchair. Judge was one o' dem Bleedin' Hearts and offered me a stint in the Army for Rehabilitation over doin' jail time. I may not be the sharpest tack in the box, but I grabbed that offer up quick.

I was kinda surprised that Army life wasn't so bad. Three squares, warm bunk, combat trainin' and the chicks dig the uniform. Sure had to deal with the brass bustin' my balls all the time about one little thing or another, an' always threatenin' to boot me back to the hoosgow, but it that weren't nuttin I couldn't handle.

So anyways, after a tour of duty in Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Iraqi Freedom (yeah... whatever) they decide I'm the man for some project the eggheads at HQ came up with. I dunno if they were Mil Intel or AMARID or what. Anywho, the fact that I'm "Independed Minded", meaning I mouth off alot I guess, and that I have some good genes means I am a prime candidate. The deal is pretty sweet: go through some tests and take some vitamins and some weird tests, and I get full pension and a promotion of two ranks, retired at 30. Not a bad deal, so I sign on the X, and get assigned to something called "Project Achilles"

So, they ship me and the other guinea pigs off to some base. No, don't know where it is, exactly. They didn't let us see on the way in, and on the way out, I had other things on my mind.

So, the next 18 weeks are utter Hell. They pump us full of pills, stick us with needles, and dump us in big tubes of goo with tubes down our gullets. All of it hurt like Hell or made us sick or both. Most of the guys die 10 weeks in. Me and 6 others live another 6 weeks. At the end of eight weeks, it's me and two other grunts, but I'm the only one they call a "success".

I dunno what they did to us, but my skin is now some kind of metal. Shiny, too. Only thing left that looks human are my eyes, which are the same as always. Bullets bounce off my skin, and I barely feel 'em. Other fellas didn't change for some reason. I think the eggheads don't know why. They seemed might puzzled by my lovely bod. Eventually, they start callin' ME "Project Achilles" since I'm the only one who lived up to what they were tryin' to do.

There's another thing, too, that started happenin' to me and the two other non-metallic fellas about this time. I guess I never been much of a calm character. Always had a bit o' a temper. But after our little ordeal, it's different somehow. When things get me P-O'd, it hurts. It hurts real bad. When I hit someone, it don't hurt as bad. And most things get me P-O'd. I guess I killed two fellas for lookin' at me funny, but I don't really remember. They looked like they been hit by a truck.

So the Eggheads and the Brass have a secret squirell meeting and decide that Project Achilles, meanin' me, is to be "terminated". I don't much like the sound o' that, so I bust the CO's door down with one punch and demand to know what the frick is happenin'. He assures me that I'm to be given the deal I signed up for... 'cept my "retirement" is to be on a military "relocation resort" in an "undisclosed location". They wanted to moth-ball me.

When I heard this, that familiar rage/pain was back again. When it was over, the CO and about a half dozen MPs were drippin' from my hams, so I high-tailed it out of there.

I don't know how I got to Paragon City, but I arrived with my military issue khakis on, and my gorgeous skin shinin' in the sun. I was hungry, so I grabbed some food from a local street cart. The jerk demanded money and wouldn't leave me be when I told him to buzz off, so I beat him into a little puddle. Before I knew what happened, I was nabbed and landed in the Zig.

I spend some time in the can, sure the military would find out where I was and ship me off to who knows where to be dissected by eggheads when Arachnos broke me out. I dunno why, babbling something about "Project Destiny" (I'll be damned if I'm gonna change my moniker again!) but I figure, hey the spiders are the closest the Rogue Islands have to an army, right? Might as well sign up.

Turns out it weren't that easy. They were more than happy to bust me out and give me a few jobs, but then it was a "thanks, see ya around metal dude" kind of reception. It was then I met Meg.

First impressions were this flyin' chick swoopin' down and callin' me Achilles. I said ya, thats what they called the whole schebang and she said "Then you ARE Achilles". I shrugged. Whadda I care what she calls me? So I find out this chick is about two pears short of a fruitbasket and thinks she's some greek god or somethin'. But she's offerin' three squares, warm cot, and a chance to bust some heads. Best deal I head since landin' on Mercy, so I figure sure why not.

So here I am. What's *yer* story, anyways?

A clip from the life of Imperia Potentis, The Goddess of Militarism, daughter of Aphroditie and Scirocco:

Imperia Potentis, Goddess of Militarism, marched proudly through the echoing halls of the Arachnos tower, her head high, the crimson electricity dancing off of her signature shining armor. Her boots clicked and rang against the floor until she entered the private chambers of her Father, one of Lord Recluses’ most trusted Lieutenants, Scirocco, who awaited her with an unusually displeased demeanor. In another unusual twist, she did not greet him with her customary salute, but stood tall, and at ease, fists to her back,

“You sent for me, Father?”

He folded his hands, one over the other, observing her obvious, open rebellion. “You have been disrespectful to Arbiter Daos, I am told. Is this true?” “I am not his puppet. I will train those I deem worthy. I am NOT a babysitter; give children to the academy, not me!” His dark eyes blink, yet he remains composed. “You have been seen out of uniform and not carrying out your duty.” Her form does not waver, but her eyes lock onto his, “I have been out with Ares; he has been teaching me much.” Scirocco flinches ever so slightly at the sound of the name of his Lady’s legendary lover… and yet, he relaxes; after all, there is much Militarism can learn from War. “Still… you have standards to uphold.” He finishes. “NO Father. Arachnos has standards to uphold, which is why I can no longer stand by and accept the state it is in… which is why I now must make demands of IT.” The once-composed gentleman rises sharply, his eyes flaring, “Who are YOU to demand!?” “I, Father, am no less than who you made me to be. I am the Goddess of Militarism. I have tested your armies and they are weak, pathetic specimens, which we tore through with hardly an effort. If you want them to stand a chance, any chance at all, you MUST give them to me!” His dark face warms to a proud, but slight smile. “I control so much Imperia.” Her eyes narrow, impatiently, “You must at least see to me elite units, Father! If our armies can’t withstand the Gods, what will they be able to stand?” His conniving eyes grow more thoughtful, and his stature more proud. “I will take your case to Lord Recluse.” She nods his way. “But do not disobey me again.” Her eyes flare at him, but he leans into her face undaunted. “Remember who you are, Imperia… and who brought you into this world. The old gods are all but forgotten, child. It is you who stands out among them… because of me.” “Of course, Father.” She says, thinking: “If it IS you who brought me into this world.”… And her thoughts turn to Ares.

Later that evening she receives a notice from Arbiter Daos: Per Lord Recluse, she’s been assigned one promising soldier as a test of her abilities. Should she make him into one of Arachnos’ elite, they will consider granting her more. Irate, offended, but determined, Imperia sets out to seek the soldier to test his mettle and determine if SHE deems him worthy…

Psychic contact with the Goddess of Love HURTS! Touching the mind of a Goddess, the millenia of memories, is hard on a mortal mind. Prolonged, or repeated psychic contact creates backlash and dreams, such as this one, given to a Coalition partner and lover of Aphroditie's:

Random flashes of miscellaneous things, various ages, nothing concrete, too much to put together, but a feel of being overwhelmed by the time of it… but it stops… on a hand… a delicate, perfect hand jeweled in gold. You seem to be looking impatiently at it, as it plays with silken, golden locks. Looking around the room, you see a lot of impatient, regally clad people, who all seem to be staring at a fiery-haired woman seated in a golden throne, a worn and angst-filled expression on her matronly face. A tall, strong white-bearded man stands beside her, and there is no doubt he is the Greatest among them. All are silent. …except for the beating of your heart which sounds like the sound of a thousand horses.

…until a man in brilliant Golden Armor comes storming in. Your body fires up with what you instantly recognize as both lust and anticipation, and a smile crosses your face. The fiery-haired woman perks up, “You have bested him? You can get me out?” But, when he removes his helmet, revealing the anger and humiliation on the most handsome of faces, his answer is apparent, and suddenly you feel your body tremble with oncoming sorrow. He crosses the room and stands opposite, helmet in hand, his eyes meeting yours briefly – a cross of sadness and rage. Silence returns to the room.

Finally a burly man with a twisted leg, wearing furs and armor of bronze, rides in on a donkey. Beside him staggers a brightly, and gaudily, dressed man carrying a finely crafted goblet. The room breaks into a murmur, and the man you’d been watching desperately places his hand on the hilt of his sword. The fiery-haired woman speaks: “Have you come here to taunt me, Hephaestos!? To gloat over your handiwork!?” “No, mother. You, who cast me from grace since you bore me. I came to claim the prize that Zeus so handily put on your freedom. For what began as my punishment for years of your wicked treatment on me, may yet become a sweet payment for my suffering.” The view turns to him, as your hand grasps your chest. “Father!” A familiar female voice escapes your lips…beckoning, pleading, mournful… “He placed her in this position… surely… you can’t… you won’t…” Your gaze returns to the warrior, who looks again with desperate eyes. “As I decreed, it will be.” A booming voice dictates. “He that frees my wife shall wed the wanton Aphroditie. I made no stipulations.” And with that, your heart sinks in your chest as you watch the warrior hang his head, and storm from the room…

You wake with a great pain in your head as thousands of jumbled thoughts flash in a blink and suddenly stop. After about an hour, you are fine.

Harmonia, the curvaceous and strong Succubus child of the Demon Dominion (half brother of Infernal), and the con artist who had pretended to be the Love-Goddess Aphroditie sets foot again into the bright white and pillared halls of the Greek Pantheon. Out of nowhere, her estranged mother had called… promising to explain everything. How unusually strange and humble she sounded – not as whimsical and vapid as the Goddess she had come to hear only over the Coalition comms. …And so Harmonia came.

Standing among the vibrant green plants, among the pillars and ancient Greek furniture she found her, shimmering in rays of pink, barely clad in black and inhuman beauty, but her eyes betrayed her Divinity. “You came, pumpkin.” The Goddess gazed at her for a moment, while the demoness folded her arms. “It has been months since you’ve even tried to speak to me… You said you would explain.” “Cupcake… I… first, please… I’ve been through so much. You know I have. Please, just… let me know you don’t hate me.” Harmonia takes a deep breath, looking her over. “I’ve never hated you. I just came to the realization that you weren’t my mother. In fact, I… I held a funeral for Venus Christiansen last month, when I realized she wasn’t coming back… when I realized she would never do the things you’ve done.” Aphroditie blinks, her eyes reddening. Harmonia continues, “I know you’re not the same person… I don’t blame you. I’ve seen your DNA, and how it has changed.” She looks down, breaking her resolute gaze on the Goddess. “Oh, sweet pea… plum… you’re wrong… you’re so wrong.” A jeweled hand reaches out for her daughter’s, and finds it shivering. “I wish I were.” Harmonia looks up, surprised to see tear-filled eyes. “Gumdrop… If you could only understand.” “Then make me. Tell me. Show me!”

Aphroditie nods, with a defeated sigh.

“The week I mourned for your brother, Deimoss - I was far too drunk to know when – was when it happened. I… began to see the big picture, pumpkin. It was as if my mind expanded. I began to see all of time and eras gone by. So many lives, so many cultures, and in a matter of weeks, tho it seemed like hours, your mother’s life – this life – seemed so very small.” Harmonia nods sadly, “The Ambrosia.” “Well, I was far too drunk to know, but it would have to have been it, peach. I really don’t remember how or when, only afterward. …in any case… Being a Goddess thrown into a world with a husband and children and mortals as powerful nearly as myself, plum, I needed to get ahead somehow…” “Seems like you found it.” Harmonia stabbed sarcastically. Aphroditie pouts, and floofs her hair before continuing, “Really, pumpkin… Arachnos ARE this world’s Gods. When I look at them they seem so very familiar.” “Why are you telling me this?” The Goddess sighs, sadly, “Because I want you to understand, pudding.” “Understand how an Anarchist who held love of Freedom and Liberty above all could turn to this? …Could fall in with this fascist regime, become Scirocco’s possession, have his child, denounce her family? Yes, please… make me understand!” “I have lived for millennia, Harmonia. I have seen nations rise and fall, I have seen Gods and Heroes die. I have done this so we can rise again… for the big picture, because I see so much more.” Aphrodite looks at her desperately, reaching with hopeful eyes. “My mother would have died first… before becoming this.” “Your mother didn’t know what I do.”

They stand for a moment. Silent. At a stalemate.

The Goddess touches her daughter’s demonically angular, red face. “I do still love you, Harmonia. That is why I called you. That is why you are here.” The Succubus looks down, playing with the tip of her tail, and trying to fight back months of tears. “Does my mother live then?” Aphroditie nods, “Venus lives.”

The Gods are now accepting Heroic mortals among their ranks... IF these mortals can get a Deity to patronize them (rather like Odysseus and Athena, for example). These are the Legendary Heroes of the 21st Century, and Athena agrees that they are necessary for the battle to come. (Parentage can be another means of Patronage; the Gods were prolific, after all...)

**Keep in mind... HEROIC in the Mythic Greek term was pretty villainous at times. This is a VG.**

Also being saught are:

Gaia and Uranus, Hestia, Hades (*present*), Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, Ares (*present*), Hebe, Hephaestus, Athena (*present*), Persephone (*present*), Hermes, Aphroditie (*present*), Apollo (*present*), and Artemis.
