NCsoft and Cryptic Studios are heading to the Indiana Convention Center for Gen Con Indy, August 18 – 21, and they are planning to storm the conference with some very cool events and products.

What is Gen Con?

Gen Con began over 38 years ago as a meeting between friends (among them, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson of D&D fame) to play games in Lake Geneva, WI - thus the name Gen (Geneva) Con (Convention). Today that name lives on in the gaming industry as the source for all the latest information on RPGs, Card Games, Miniatures, Wargames, Board Games, Computer Games – just about any type of game ever created. Since its rather humble and exclusive local beginnings, Gen Con has expanded to three shows worldwide: Europe, Indianapolis, and Anaheim. For more information about Gen Con, please visit the official site.

Here’s a peek at some of the exciting activities that NCsoft and Cryptic Studios are hosting:

Daily Raffles – We will be raffling off Limited Edition collector’s prints made especially for Gen Con Indy. We will also be raffling off a few of the extremely rare E3 Capes each day! Attendees must be present to win – raffles are held 1 hour before the close of the retailer room each day.

The World-Famous NCsoft/Cryptic Studios Trivia Contest – Held three times daily, this event rewards those who aren’t afraid to share their mastery of comic book and RPG game lore. Prizes for the fastest correct answers include t-shirts, posters, and coveted copies of NCsoft games: City of Heroes, Lineage II, Guild Wars, and the just-released pre-order boxes for City of Villains. The contest is hosted Thursday and Friday by Kevin “No-Name” Sullivan, and Saturday and Sunday by Jack “Statesman” Emmert.

Adapting Game Designs Across Multiple Media - For those interested in finding out the nuts and bolts behind taking an IP to multiple game media, NCsoft is hosting a seminar on Saturday Aug. 20th. The panel of leading game designers includes: Jack Emmert, David “Zeb” Cook, and Shane Hensley from Cryptic Studios, Dave Williams from Alderac Entertainment Group, and George Vasilakos and Alex Jurkat from Eden Studios. Each of the panelists have been involved in taking the City of Heroes IP to new media. Check out the NCsoft booth #1835 for more details.

Live Game Play at the NCsoft Booth – NCsoft is showcasing City of Heroes, Lineage II and Guild Wars throughout the show on dedicated computers at their booth. We are also allowing visitors to see a portion of the character creator from City of Villains as well as limited game play from the upcoming beta of Auto Assault!

LAN Center – NCsoft is sponsoring the LAN Center at Gen Con where players may build their own characters and discover City of Heroes and Lineage II at their own pace.
