(( OOC: Natural Origins...possibilites? ))

NOTE: This is all Out of Character, because I can't seem to get IN to any character I'm happy with...

I want to play a Natural character for some reason. Science is anappealing due to the fact that I don't want to be some mad scientist or a scientist who screwed something up. Mutation is too easy to do. I dislike Magic, for some strange reason...yes, it's a fantasy game, but I kinda like the real stuff better, I can get into it more. Technology, I could probably live with, but I always just want to make a robot-looking character and those get boring. Natural seems like it'd be really really fun to do...but there's just one problem!

I can't find many Archetype / Powers that go with Natural!

So far, the only ones that I've found that can be done are...

BLASTER:
-Assault Rifle
--Devices
--Energy Manipulation

CONTROLLER:
-Illusion Control (it's a stretch)
--Empathy

SCRAPPER:
-Broadsword
-Martial Arts
-Claws
-Katana
--Invulnerability
--Super Reflexes
--Regeneration (stretch)

DEFENDER:
-Empathy
--No secondary...

TANKER:
-Invulnerability
--Battle Axe
--Energy Melee
--War Mace
--Super Strength

Now, from the list above, you might be thinking, "Hey! There's lots of options for a Natural character, what's this guy talking about(aboot if you're from Canada)?"

Well now, this is where I get picky. I'd like, if possible, to be a ranged character. That alone excludes Scrapper and Tanker, which subsequently takes out most of my options. I also have an aversion to guns...I'm ont a total hippie, but given the choice I'd never hear a gunshot ever, certainly not in a game that's supposed to be fun for me. That means that Assault Rifle and Blaster are out, and all I have is an Illusion Controller, something that I think is a huuuuge stretch in the first place.

And there's my dilema. I don't know what to try or what to play. Any suggestions or things that I've missed out on so far?

(Also, if this is in the wrong forum, please tell me. I need help roleplaying, I figure this is where to go.)

First off I assume by "natural" you mean a natural human. I know plenty of people who have used natural as an origin for an alien or dimensional traveler of some sort.

I would also suggest you take another look at science. Science doesn't necessarily mean you experimented on yourself, it could mean that there was a scientific accident or someone else experimented on you. You may not even know how it works.
And Tech doesn't mean a robot or high-tech armor. Nanites, subdermal implants, and a variety of other options exist for tech origins.

Anyway, back to your choices. You want a natural blaster or defender from what I can see.

Any blaster primaries could be created by natural sources, though they would be high tech enough to be considered science or tech origin. But certainly a normal human with a customized flame-thrower (fire primary) could be considered a natural hero.

For a defender, the Psi attack secondary could be natural. It makes the leap in assuming that humans have untapped psionic potential, but it is certainly feasible.

However, you have your paradigm to work with, so I think that your justification of the powers is the key.

Kudos to you for thinking concept first!!!!

Well let's say your an energy blaster with devices.

Devices easy to explain but energy? That's a tricky one.

Perhaps the energy released from the palm of your hands comes from years and years of teaching yourself the ways of a certain type of Tao and you have now focused you chi enough that you can summon your inner abilities without even a second thought.

This means you're not magic because you are not using scrolls or anything like that, you are simply tapping into the power of your inner will like Statesman did. Unlocking the power of your inner will allows you to do fantastic things that all normal men and women can do if they unlock it.

As far as natural goes, I think the idea given at character creation is that they are not superpowered or extremely intelligent per-se. But they either use the power of their own bodies or use gadgets and devices.

Tech happens to be Technology origin because he makes his own stuff. But what if your electric blaster, natural, has a benefactor that makes his stuff for him? Also, electrics do "Bzzzrt" and not "Blam". ;D

As for Tech, without the armour he's as natural as the screaming guy on the street, just smarter.

Somethings to consider with the origins... Science doesn't mean that your character was a scientist. My main is a Science Tanker, but that's because he's had a tendancy to get captured and his captors expirament with his genetics. A Natural origin can explain any powersets depending on the situation: A.) character went through intence physical or mental training to be able to use the abilities he has (This is the case with the Statesman who is capable of flight) or B.) You are an alien (be it from another plane, reality, or planet) and everyone from your race has those abilities (the Peacebringer Kheldians are automatically this origin). It all comes down to how creative you are with the explanation as to why you are able to use those abilities.

Can't really help you with the blaster/defender side of it, but I can tell you how I justified my natural origin.

MA: Been training since he was 8, so he's pretty good at what he does there.
Regen: Some people have a naturally high metabolism and healing rate. The ink in the tattoos he has helped augment that innate ability to the point it could be considered "Super".

It's a bit of a stretch, and borders on Science origin, but I think it fits. Just another way of looking at it.

Maybe you should start your character from a different direction. Meaning, come up with his story first. What is his/her purpose? Who is their enemy and why? When you come up with the story you will know exactly what powerset is best.

Again like it was posted above. Science doesnt mean you were a scientist. My main was experimented on for twenty years. Thats kinda how he got his powers.

IMHO, you could also do combinations - one of my critters is Natural origin, even though he was scientifically modified to have the potential for superpowers, because he underwent an extensive period of training to actually develop those powers.

I could see being a Natural origin illusionist, too; just use relatively simple light and sound projection devices to start. Nonlethal-weapons type stuff.

May I assume you're new to the game? If so, how about making a throwaway character just to get a feel for some of the powersets that interest you? Maybe the sounds and animations of them will spark something. The fan movies here are good for that too.

Yes, Blood Wolffe is multi-origin, he could be a mutant because he had his powers at birth, science because he was experimented on, and magic because thats how he finally manifested them. I wish they had unkown as an origin sometimes. Even though it doesnt affect anything yet.

I hear you can always be half-unknown. But it'd have to be a dark unknown.

((back on topic))
I do have to share the idea that it might be best to create a backstory for your hero first. Maybe you discover that Natural isn't completely what you were looking for after all...
