Dr. Elmore Harrison walked through the halls of Exarch Industries' reseach laboratories. He had received a strange message from the head of the robotics department, especially since Hank rarely showed the kind of emotion he had.
Hank Pritchard sat in the isolated lab, grinning like a cheshire cat. Today would be one of the greatest days that Exarch industries would have. Once the other were assembled, he would show them the newest development of his division. There were still some bugs with the design, but those could be worked out eventually. The prototype was ready to be sent out and used to combat the evils of Paragon City as it was, and that was just what it was going to do.
---------------------------
As the group assembled, Hank stood before them and smiled. He shook hands with several of the more important people in the crowd, and acknowledge everyone as they entered. When all were seated in front of the giant viewscreen, the head of the robotics department cleared his throat and began his speech.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have asked you here for a very momentus unvieling. As you know, we have been working on a new project for the past three years. We have kept everyone in the dark for security reasons, but now is the time to shed light upon the future." He smiled, relishing the feeling of a captured audience. He nodded slightly, and the screen behind him flickered to life.
"This is our newest proto-type of our combat model. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... Terax" On the screen, a well armored robot appears. It is completely white, and looks more like a computer model than a real robot. Several schematic references scroll next to it, as it rotates on a vertical axis. "You will note nothing of difference from the basic model, but I ask you to bear with me. This model is extremely more versitile than any other model we have designed. Watch as we demonstrate what I am speaking of."
Suddenlly, the screen changes to another view of the robot. This looks like a video as opposed to a static model. In the distance, a voice can be heard. "Activate Terax" The eyes of the white robot flare to life, and it begins to move of its own accord. The movements are fluid, almost lifelike. Another voice sounds off. "Terax, begin Alpha phase."
The robot nods and speaks in a metallic voice. "Terax Alpha, EVOLVE!" Suddenly, throw its hands to the sides, and is enveloped in a white light. The light fades, revealing that the robot has disappeared. A minute later, the robot materializes in another flash of light, several feet from it's original position. It is now white with red markings, and it shifts into a martial arts stance. It moves through a series of stances and swift kicks, aiming for targets that randomly pop from the ceiling and walls. It moves quickly, sometimes seeming to shift positions instantly as it strikes yet another target.
Hank smiles as he continues his speech. "This is the Alpha mode. Terax has five modes, and we will cover those as they are shown. Terax Alpha is programed in the martial arts, and uses internal energies to augment its speed and reflexes. This is a pure fighting machine folks."
The camera shifts on the screen again. "Terax Beta, EVOLVE!" Again, the screen fills with the light ad moments later, Terax reappears shifted slightly from its original position. This time, the markings on the robot are blue. It begans to glow with an eerie light, as it rises off the floor slightly. Its eyes seem to scan back and forth as it searches for hidden targets, then quickly releases a blast of energy from its palms. "Terax Beta is a tactical design that uses the radiation of its internal power supply as a weapon. This also lets it power the flight unit within its boots. This design is useful in helping to direct groups to do the most good in the field."
Another shift, and Terax now has yellow markings. "This is Terax Gamma." Terax lifts off the ground quickly, and fires off a series of electrical blast from it's palms. "Pure damage dealing is this form's speciality. It has the power of flight as well, although it is based on the Tesla models for storing and using electrical power."
Another shift, this one with black markings. "Terax Delta. This one is the one I think is most revolutionary. Keep a close eye on it." Suddenly, Terax has moved to the other side of the room then back again. Suddenly, a machine gun opens fire from one side of the room. Terax throws it's arms out to the side, and the bullets are reflected away from it. Extending a hand towards the weapon, it close it's fingers as if gripping a ball. The machine gun begins to fold into a neat, round ball. "Terax Delta uses gravity well generators and black hole theory to manipulate gravity. It can crush items with a thought, teleport itself over great distances and project forcefields to protect itself and others."
A final shift, and Terax is marked in green. "Terax Epsilon. A pure tank." Terax is show as a large caliber rifle is fired into it, the shell exploding harmlessly against the robot. The robot then steps towards the weapon and rips it from the wall, bending it into a 'u' shape. "As I said, a pure tank. This form also incorporates the ability to jump away from danger, or simply to jump to the top of a building, thus bypassing a tedious run."
Hank looked out over the audience. Most of them sat with open mouths, some had looks of suspicion on their faces. "There are only a few problems with the design, but they are negligable compared to the value of the robot. As you may have noticed, each change takes a minute or so to accomplish. Thus, changing in combat is not a viable tactic at this time. Also, there seems to be a locational shift that occurs with each change. The shifts were minor during our taping, but that was because of the room the demonstrations were filmed. Once it is sent out into Paragon City, these shifts may cause it to be relocated in any part of the city. However, I feel that it is time to send Terax into the field for a test run, so to speak. If this test proves succesful, we will be able to begin production of the Terax model." He smiled again, and spoke for the last time. "Are there any questions?"
