I had never played an MMO before when I picked up a free trial of CoV. When it expired, I expressed some mild disappointment to my wife about not being able to play anymore. Shortly thereafter, she made up an excuse about needing to go the store. I was shocked when she came home with the CoV box and said, "eh...what's $15 a month for a bit of fun."
My favorite memories:
- The first time I entered The Hollows and thinking, "I have no business playing this game".
- My first TF. It was Ernesto Hess and admittedly, I had no idea I had actually joined a TF. It wasn't until a few months ago when I ran a Hess TF that I realized what I had joined so many years ago. BTW - yes, I'm an idiot.
- Very early in my CoH experience, I was invited to a PuG on Triumph by a character with "Tea" in her name (I later came to find out that all of her toons had "Tea" in the name). She friended me and invited me to my first SG. She was the most helpful person I've ever met in game and was an absolute pleasure to team with. I probably haven't seen her in a couple of years, but if you're still out there - thanks for everything. I'm a better player because of your help.
- Getting my best friend to join the game and simultaneously hitting 50 (his first, my second).
- Screaming every obscene word known to man at the top of my lungs as I tried to manuever through the Shadow Shard for the first time without flight or any sort of jet pack. I'd like to think a few new obscenities exist because of that evening.
Considering I've played for 5 years and have still never done a STF, ITF, Hami, or Mothership Raid, I'm pretty sure there are a few more great memories still to come.
