  2. I used this command in terminal to run CoH:
wine ./cityofheroes.exe -project "coh" -renderthread 0 -auth 64.25.36.4
or ./cohlaunch.pl -project "coh" -renderthread 0 -auth 64.25.36.4

I got a AMD: Radeon HD 4830 (RV770 LE) card

The game works but I have a problem with rubber-banding, similar to this problem:
    http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13718

Here is some text from my terminal:

Does anyone else experience this kind of rubber-banding? I think it is cause by bad communication with the server? Any ideas?
  3. Using the following command I managed to get past server select:
wine ./cityofheroes.exe -project "coh" -renderthread 0 -auth 64.25.36.4

However, there are still some problems: The game 'lags'. There is a communication problem.
    Here are some terminal messages:
    Quote:

I have no idea exactly what the auth command does, but I have a feeling that I need to 'auth' a few more IP's.

Anyone know how to do this?

I used this command in terminal to run CoH:
wine ./cityofheroes.exe -project "coh" -renderthread 0

I finally got the game to run but then, after loggin in, there is only one server:
    Select a server
    °°° unnamed

After clicking on it I get:
    Can't connect to DB server

To install CoH I used this:
    http://www.carnildo.com/cohlaunch/index.html
The normal patcher did not work
I then copied the files to a fresh wineprefix

    /edit
I found someone who had a simular problem: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=8354
Seems to be a driver related problem. These Nvidia drivers are a major pain in the butt. I cannot tell how often I have had problems with this so far.

    /edit again

  5. When trying to run the game I get the following errors:
    Code:

    fixme:wgl:X11DRV_wglGetPixelFormatAttribivARB unsupported 2006 WGL Attribute
    fixme:wgl:X11DRV_wglGetPixelFormatAttribivARB unsupported 2008 WGL Attribute
This must be related to my AMD: Radeon HD 4830 (RV770 LE) graphics card in wine.
I am trying to find a solution right now.

  7. Hello,

Since the paragon wiki refuses to provide me with actual number I will have to ask the question to the experienced defenders on this forum:

What combination of powersets for a defender provides the highest total resistance debuffs? (For PvE, that means preferably AOE debuffs that can be maintained 24/7)

What combination provides the best overall debuffs (including other debuffs such as -def -speed and -recharge, in that order)?
Ideally, can you provide some number or provide a link to a site with the actual numbers.
    Thank you.
  8. That would explain the lack of posts and guides . And also completely makes my post useless.

Makes me feel kinda stupid. Problem solved then.

Shield Defense is incompatible with the following powersets: Claws, Spines, Dual Blades, and Katana. When a shield is deployed, many emotes are blocked.
  9. I would like to thank everyone for replying to my post. I did learn a lot of things.

@Local_Man: I did in fact already read your guides. There are very insightful and educated me on earth/rad (that is the reason it was in my list in the first place)

I looked at illusion, but to get perma PA you need to do special enhancements. For this reason alone I would not make this my first character to 50, since I do not have the money to buy all these sets. My plant/kin used to be level ~36 or something.

Because of the fact that plant/* and fire/* are the highest damage primary controllers, and the fact that everyone used to have fire/kin controllers (and they probably still all do), I will go with plant/storm. Plant/cold is looking promising too, but sleet and heat loss are only gained at level 35/38 while I get freezing rain at level 16 (*/storm).

I think it will be a good road to 50 while still be viable in the end game. I really wish the paragon wiki would have real values (like recharge, debuff value and so on). It would make all this much easier .
    Again thank you all.
  10. Hello,

Does anyone have experience with the claws / shield defense combination for scrappers?

I was looking at some interesting powersets for tanker / brute / scrapper for PvE. I also looked at the benefits for each archtype. Tankers have better defense. Tankers and brutes their attacks have taunts. Scrappers have higher base damage and damage boost.

I found out that */SD has Against All Odds (AaO). This skill combined with the damage bonus for scrappers looks like an interesting way to maximize damage and utilize the advantage of the scrapper. Both */FA and */SD have damage skills, while the other secondary sets do not. */SD has shield charge, */FA has blazing aura and fiery embrace. Having damage in your secondary seems like an interesting advantage.

I found plenty of topics about SS/FA, SS/SD. Most of these focused on solo PvE (farming). According to these forums the SS/FA brute seems to be the best PvE combination for farming due to the higher AOE damage of the aura. In addition, I have seen people post that brutes and tankers can farmer easier due to their taunting attacks. However I did not find anything about claws/SD. There is also nothing in the guides (and the sticky seems outdated about most powersets).

For those that have claws/SD, EM/SD and/or spine/SD, how do these compare? Please share your experiences. EM and spine both have build up, claws does not. All three primary sets have AOE attacks. Does this mean that claws has more base damage? If this is true then it would scale better with AaO and other buffs? It think I would prefer not having to use buildup every x seconds. AaO is a toggle, that means it is always on (no recharge unless you toggle it off)?

I have some experience with claws/regeneration (long time ago), but I never played */SD.
I am looking forward to your reply.
    Thank you for your time.
  11. Hello fellow control freaks!

Recently I have been having a renewed interest in CoH because I hear that CoH:Freedom is coming out soon. I have been reading a lot on these forums lately because like the rest of you, I love controllers. There are a lot of interesting possibilities out there.

A long time ago, I used to play a plant/kin controller. I really like him except for one fact: speed boost buffing made me feel like a buff bot and not a player (by the time you have buffed the whole team, you have to start rebuffing). I have decided that for this reason I do not like to buff and heal as much. I prefer to be aware of the battlefield and actively mitigate damage trough debuffing and control.

I read about earth/rad, and excellent control and debuff set. The fact that */rad has toggled debuffs means they can be used on higher level mobs without missing. This in addition to earths -def seems as if this could be a very strong powerset for teams fighting purples. I also see the possibility of earth/cold or earth/TA and even earth/storm. I also looked at plant/storm because I hear it is a great combo with good damage. I really learned to love seeds of confusion and I might go plant again (plant/rad or plant/cold seems possible to but not nearly as exciting as plant/storm). I just know and feel that plant/storm is going to be a blast.

    Now the question (finally!):
What would be the best team-oriented high-end pve controller?

In other words, in an optimal team setup, what would be the most desirable controller? For PUG's, what controllers are most looked for (high end pve)? If you could make the best team setup of powersets and AT then what would it look like? I have no idea since I haven't played this game for a long time. Do brutes tank now? If so, what are the best and what kind of controller compliments their powersets the best?

What controller has the best debuff potential?
