Yeah, I think you need to be at least Tier 4 rewards to play the MA with rewards.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=269185
Or buy a license, $2 per month I think. -
Yeah, it's actually $5 to unlock /tell and a couple of others, like /sg (supergroup)
$20 will unlock all chat channels, even the global ones. ($5+$15).
Most things in the store require that you spend $15 to bump yourself up a level to the next reward. The first one is special, just $5.
Editxxor: Also, any returning account that has a 3 month vet or better will also have all channels unlocked, and anyone that ever applied a retail code, even if they didn't subscribe, will have at least /tell and /sg unlocked, in addition to the free channels (/local, help, /team, and /friends.) Don't forget the free folks do get /friends, so you can have your own little private conversation with friends playing for free.) -
Quote:Yeah, or the equivalent purchase in the store.Maybe, as a security measure, they should institute a system whereby you can only play the game if you've paid a nominal monthly fee. Say about $15, that sounds fair...
I think that's a great idea, I'm going to suggest it in a PM to Zwill! Wow, we should have been game designers, huh! -
Quote:The thing is, so much team recruiting is done using the good old, "<Blah> team forming, pst if interested," method that F2P players will be completely excluded from joining teams that form this way (which is most of them, isn't it?).
I predict there will be a torrent of exchanges like this on every server:[Broadcast] Noobee: what is pst
Except when forming TF nowadays, I've been specifically using the help channel so that even free folks can reply. And it's effective. I do get newbies replying (Usually with "What is a DfB?" but still at least they can talk). I also advertise in broadcast and tell folks to come to ms. liberty, for example, so folks in zone can use local to join. -

Personally, I don't think I'd even two slot Fly. More important stuff to slot elsewhere.
I think good slotting for Fly is probably "One Celerity +Stealth" and you're done. -
Here's a review of my laptop, which includes some 3DMark scores you can compare against.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-...k.40469.0.html
Note that while I think my laptop is "good," I also think it's probably about the minimum that anyone would consider "good." Less, and you're solidly into "mediocre." Note that my 3DMark 06 score is about 5200, and the one for the system you are considering buying is about 4000. That doesn't sound all that great to me.
If you want to get the model I'm using, make sure it has the H, and make sure it has the beefed up graphics card. There's two models which are similar, only one has 1024 MB of dedicated memory. That's the one I have. -
If you turn down the graphics ALL THE WAY, I'd guess it would be able to handle iTrials and mothership raids. But I'd get a couple other opinions on that, as I don't have anything I can compare with directly.
I have a laptop too but I made sure to get a decent graphics card, and I spent a bit more than $550 too. (I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v, which so far has been fine for anything less than Ultra Mode.) -
It's kinda rough, I agree. But like others said it was one of the few things that actually sent the RMT spammers packing, so I think we have to put up with it.
Free players can use /local, /team, help channel (/hc), and I think /friends. So you can chat with your free buddy with the /friends channel at least. That's not as convenient as /tells and globals, but it's an option. Global friends should let you at least see when each other is on, if you need to set up a new toon as a friend. -
Dunno. Does it happen every time? Or was it just for a while and now it works?
Probably have to contact support if it keeps up. If you are VIP, it should work every time, and it does for me at least.
And is this the game, or your NC Soft account? -
Quote:Exactly what I was going to say. /Rad + 6 pets = good times. Corruptors love meat shields. Any -Res based brute would do well too, maybe Energy/Dark, or Fire/Fire?Maybe a Tanker or Mastermind if you don't want to show them up.
The tanker would be a good meat shield.
The mastermind wouldn't seem very powerful until later on.
Also, Crab. Tankage, at least somewhat, and debuffs to stack with /Rad. -
Yup, came back up for me too almost the second I posted. Thanks guys, I think Zwill and Freitag were just waiting for someone to ask before they turned the site back on. Those guys are such jokers.

The main COH website, www.coh.com , has been offline all day for me. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone have an ETA when it'll be back?
I'm kinda suspicious that it might be a problem or unreported because I haven't seen an announcement about the main web page being offline, and that's odd. I've been looking for the patch notes, but obviously with the main site down they're unavailable. -
I don't know, but off the top of my head, around 50% to 90% of the price of the crafted IO.

Quote:Every time you put something on the market, even for storage, the sale history comes up. I have to click once on the item after I put it up, but it's not really tedious. If it isn't selling for anything, it's junk. But one thing that still has me scratching my head is this: how does one know if a piece of salvage is "junk"? I mean, short of searching the market UI
Quote:But anything less valuable than that probably isn't worth that much effort in the greater scheme of things, right? (Again, speaking from a casual player's point of view). -
Go to your Friends list. There's a drop down that shows all channels you are a member of. If you're a chan-op for one of them, that channel will show six buttons, one of which is "Invite". You can use that to invite a player to that channel.
Or use the chan_invite slash command.
/chan_invite channel username
List of all slash commands at Paragon Wiki:

True, I just didn't want the OP (or anyone else) to conflate the two ideas.
-
I'm hoping they add queues for all TFs and SFs. That would help new folks find out these things exist, as well as make it easier to form them up.

Yes, but "this week" doesn't mean Tuesday. It could happen anytime. Soon™.

*BUY* for 1-2 million. Sell for one inf. Yes, not all rare salvage sells for 1-2 million but I figured that would be pretty obvious to anyone. I'm saying it's not out of line to buy piece of salvage for 2 million if you plan to craft with it. Obviously, if the bid history is much less, try offering less first.
-
That was really an excellent list for someone who calls himself a noob, or for anyone really. Kudos.
Adding: visit your server forum (here on these forums) and say "Hi," and ask about global channels. They are your best bet for getting teams, help, and what not.
Sell your salvage and inventory on the market. Don't save it. Don't worry about prices much, sell everything for 1 inf. Although if you have a recipe that sells for 1 million or more, take the time to craft it and then sell the result, it should be worth it. The University (Cap au Diable or Steel Canyon) has a tutorial for you on crafting. Check your contacts.
Around level 35, look into crafting recipes for yourself. Before then it's kinda expensive and not worth it so much. -
Quote:Is there a general rule of thumb to use to help decide whether to vendor a recipe or piece of salvage vs. trying to sell it on the market? For instance, I have a Level 50 Fly IO recipe in one of my characters' inventories. The last several market purchases for this were 12,500. But I can vendor it for over 70,000. I know this is "chump change" ...
Is that really an effective use of casual playing time (a question mostly for you casual market players, I guess)?
No, but here's what I do.
Sell absolutely everything on the market for 1 inf. The reason is the badges and rewards you get for selling stuff are way better than the few inf you'll get by vendoring stuff.
The sole exceptions are common salvage and recipes that sell for more than 50k or so. The common salvage you want to consider keeping, and the recipes should be investigated to see if their IOs will sell for a lot.
Any IO that sells for more than 2-5 million inf should be crafted and put up for sale at basically half price, so it'll move. The rest, just sell quick and don't look back.
Getting reamed by paying 100k for common salvage just irks me. You may not care, but that's why I hang onto the expensive stuff. Note that you can buy uncommon and rare salvage for tickets in the AE. Go do some of the Devs choice or Guest missions in the AE. They're fun, and you'll build up a supply of tickets in case someone is trying to ream you over a piece of uncommon salvage. (Rare salvage sells consistently in the 1-2 mil range. Just buy it.)
That's it. In summary, craft/save the expensive stuff, and sell everything else for 1 inf. Saves time and hassle, and the inventory increases you get from badges are way worth it. -
Quote:So basically I earned over 700mil influence in about 5 minutes. Now granted, that was only because I had the good fortune to have stumbled upon a purple recipe and have all but one of the ingredients already. But still, I can sort of see why the AH works as easily and quickly as it does.
Yup, what Kit said. You basically did everything right: don't get greedy, and try to minimize your time buying and selling, within reason.
Some folks claim they can farm the market over a weekend or so and make a billion Inf. I don't see how, but you can sure make 100 million or so pretty quickly and without a ton of effort. That's without lucky purple drops. Just a bit of careful buying, selling and crafting will make some nice returns, as well has give some folks the neat salvage or Enhancement they want.
Messing around with the market is one of my favorite "down time" things to do. -
Quote:Access to the invention system lets you get salvage/recipe drops.
(market access is unrelated to invention system access
I thought market access also got you access to salvage drops. Whereas Inventions was slot/use plus the ability to craft. I could be totally wrong about this though.
