Second: Ex, several times, has jumped in and asked, or prodded us, to find some type of solution so as to avoid exercising any authority as a forum administrator and finding one for us. As she commented above, there would be strict guidelines and such that would have to be enforced, which I'm sure would be unpleasant for everyone.

I agree with this completely. If you read the OFFICIAL rules of the board, almost NONE of our discussions, thread jacks or not, could be carried out. I prefer to solve it ourselves, personally. So far, the titling thing looks pretty good.
  2. The Chaotic, Netural, Lawful thing works for me, personally.... as well as the OP watching their thread, and letting the OP be the one to notify when things get outta hand.

    But hey, that's just me.
  3. We can discuss this until we're blue in the face, and either way, the same thing happens. The Mods do what they want to do. Period. It's obvious not everyone gets along. That's normal in any large (or small!) group of people. We, as humans, don't like everyone we meet.

What I have seen mostly is that the boards with true information on them (STF the 2nd Tuesday of Next week, GIANT PANDAS MEETING TONIGHT) and information on teams etc, stay FOR THE MOST PART unjacked. Unless the endless pages of "count me in" counts as jacking.

I haven't had a problem finding INFORMATION on the protector board (the main boards is a completely different story tho), or Lohr's pvp threads, or meeting threads etc. I mean, THOSE are the information threads, right?

So if the other threads, which are often started for silliness anyway, get jacked. WHO CARES? As long as the censors pick up the foul language, there's not TRUE flaming, etc, etc. Who cares? I mean ultimately, that's been the gripe: we can't find info because of the jacking.

It's simple, if the person who started the thread asks PLEASE DON'T THREADJACK (nicely) this is important to me, and it's an INFORMATION THREAD --- DON'T DO IT. Easy peasy. If you want to peeve this person off, do it in game or PRIVATELY.

If it's a goofy thread, and they say "don't threadjack", particularly if aimed at certain persons/groups, well... ya' get what ya' get.

I originally came to these boards to hang out and get to know other people because my (new) SG is so freakin' small, all my old friends quit playing CoX, and I'm trying not to be such a loner.

I don't give a rats behind who hates who or why. That's personal between so & so and whomever. I like people based on what I see of them here and in-game (PMs emails, etc). All we have to communicate with each other here are WORDS... and as we all know, words without (voice) inflection can be grossly misconstrued.

Even here, where we are supposed to civilly discuss it, we get (subtley, and I don't name names or point fingers) "IT'S YOUR FAULT!" no "IT'S YOUR FAULT" naya naya naya. Good grief.

It's really simple people, don't threadjack the information threads. Play nice.. and if you can't play nice, take it private. No one here wants to listen to the flaming public gripe session between two (or 4 or groups) of people. We all get enough of that garbage out of the box (computer).

Mods, don't give us a thread specifically to threadjack and then modsmack it. That's just assinine. We've got two good threadjack threads right now (Stalker Report/Have Fun Here) that we keep going. Let's keep it there unless someone makes one SPECIFICALLY to allow open silliness & discussion (the rating system would work here).

As for the "protector is better than other forums". Well, the other forums don't matter when we are playing here. We are discussing the protector board, and that's all. That's all we were asked to discuss. WE weren't asked to chime in about other boards (not that anyone's listening to that anyway). Stick to just our board in this "discussion".

And like I said at the beginning, they (the Mods) are going to do, what they are going to do, regardless of how much people "discuss" on this board. So stop arguing, already. The Mods will tell us how they are gonna handle it when they are good and ready, and we'll adapt or leave.

*shrugs* I mean, there are obviously people here brighter than me that can start message boards of their own, and lock out who they want and what discussions they want. So if you can't do what you want here, try that.

Oh, and HAPPY THURSDAY TO EVERYONE ON THE PROTECTOR BOARDS.

*walks out and slams door on this thread*

[*]Using quick reply causes your post to be tagged to the post directly above you, creating a chain of posts, sometimes when you remove a post it will take out a portion of the chain. The best solution is to hit the reply button instead of quick reply, especially directly after a threadjacking. Many innocent and constructive posts get removed for this reason alone.

Personally, * I * didn't know this Ex, and this helped my understanding a lot. Thank you.
  5. What it comes down too is keeping certain people & players happy and that we get left alone until someone points <<IE: Well, it seems Protector has bubbled up on my radar again, and from the looks of the moderator report (which I am looking into as we speak) you have come across their radar as well. >> a finger an a forum "big dog".

I've played CoX for 25 months. I stayed away from the boards up until about 2 months or so ago. This is the exact reason why. Certain people/players are allowed to express opinions, be hateful and rude until their hearts are content... but don't let an outsider (or lurker) make an opinion known (especially one that isn't in-line with the "big dogs" or the mods) because you'll be torn up, torn down, deleted, mod-smacked, whatever.

A good example of selective moderation, is a thread on one of the other boards where someone offered a bounty on another player... it's been there the whole time I've been participating in the boards.

Threadjacking is not the biggest problem, by far.

It's the PERCEIVED (I didn't say if it was right or wrong, but PERCEPTION is everything here) way that some people are treated... both by being mod-smacked and player-trashed/excluded. In some ways, it's a LOT like high school... your either one of the "cool kids" or you aren't. And if you aren't, you don't matter.

I originally came to the boards AT ALL looking for information on buliding bases and some other in-game stuff. THAT was a near impossibility in itself, unless you want to wade through 200 pages of crap just to find ONE post with a link with info.

*shrugs* I did without the boards for 23 months, reckon I can go back to that.

Thanks for allowing us to express our opinions and feelings about this Ex.
