I feel bad for people who can't enjoy both the book and the movie. I'm a Heinlein fan and a Verhoven fan and I will tell you that I enjoyed both the same way I enjoyed serious tellings of King Arthur's tale and the Monty Python version. Same way I enjoyed Thor comics even though I was a rabid Norse mythos addict.

I wouldn't recommend Python, Thor comics, or Verhoven's movie as serious tales that teach you important lessons on life. That didn't stop me from enjoying them.

Well, first off, if they had called "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" "An Accurate Account of the Life and Times of King Arthur", I would see your point. But from the title, you know what you are getting into.

But when you put the title "Starship Troopers" on a low budget B movie sci-fi flick, you cant tell that they are not even trying to stay true to the original book of the exact same name.

If you truely read and understood the book, you know how they arent even really the same story!

But I do agree, Starship Troopers the movie was comical, but in ways they were not trying for.

I would also like to give a shout out for Starship Troopers. That is one seriously funny and enjoyable movies that you can watch on autopilot. It doesnt try to take itself seriously in the slightest. Would you like to know more?

Well, while the movie still just plain old sucks, the fact remains it has nothing to do with Starship Troopers the book...did you know there even was a book? Of course, they rely on the fact that people that would enjoy that movie dont generally read books, so they are in the clear.

How can you take a ground breaking book for its time and reduce it to utterly brainless sci-fi crap? Call it something else like "Trooping Starshippers" or "The Twit Movie", but no they had to latch onto a known book cause the movie story was soooo bad.

Well, as long as people will buy that tripe, Hollywood will continue to churn it out.

OMG you should see the second Starship Troopers movie if you thought the first one was bad...(it was even bad for a "straight to DVD" movie).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, my GF, who loves Sci-Fi movies rented it. I said I would have nothing to do with it cuase the first one was soooo bad, how could a straight-to-video movie be worth the $2 rental?

While she thought the first movie was ok, she didnt even finish that one, so it must have been bad. 8)

Now, can somebody out there make a REAL Starship Troopers movie?

    Please?

If I was a billionaire, I would do it with my own money just as a favor to mankind.
  4. Ok, first off, calling the new Battlestar Galactica....errrr, Battlestar Galactica, is like calling that God-awful Starship Troopers movie....errrr Starship Troopers.

Both are sad hack jobs that totally ruin the concept of the original. Now, Starship troopers is far worse in this respect(I mean, that movie is an exercise in taking a concept, turning it 180 degrees and slapping a name on it)...but how can you be soooo cheap that to save on your budget you make Cylons look like...people?!

Good God, you take one of the coolest parts of the original campy show and just throw it out the window.

At the time, the Cyclons were pretty cool, armor, big guns, robotic voices, cool sliding eye light thingy.

Yep, cool back then....do we get an update deserving of 2003? Think of the toy sales alone! No, we get some chick in a nighty.

    Nice.

Oh, BTW, the old Cylon Raider ships were cool too. 8)
