Quote:Another feather in you cap, Pilgrim. I know I've never been asked.-grins- Come with us on a speed run, GP. Maybe tonight if you have time?

Pilgrim, the difference is in how you run it. Experiences are based on what they do and how they do it. Some folks do it the min/max way with the same people/set up. Its vastly easier overall, but has it's own "trouble spots" that other setups won't run into. And vice versa.
Others can pull things off with random variables left and right. Others can do it with a pure PUG (god bless them). I'm not sure how many "masters" can be run with a pure PUG set up. I've gotten a couple, but honestly, I had to do a lot of extra work to make it happen.
I enjoy pure PuG "challenges" about as much as I enjoy min/max runs. Hence the "different strokes for different folks" and why some things are "harder" for some, and not for others.
I play just to play. -
Quote:But all of that becomes cheescake with the usual run-and-gun, high defense teams that plow through the other Master of TFs. The Riders are *nothing* if they can't hit you, just like any AV. And they are even easier to neuter than most AVs. The only thing, IMO, the LGTF has that's even remotely interesting/challenging is Hamidon.I dunno, I would think it's at least on par with Dr. Kahn, if not a bit more difficult. There are a fair amount of ambushes and AVs, and some of those rooms are extremely crowded, so you would have to be careful with aggro there. The Riders can be a little more tricky as well: especially with their debuffs (as Hammy said many times this weekend "damn end drain!").
I'm not saying it is the most challenging thing ever, but it's above the challenge of the Phalanx TFs and seems worthy of adding a "Master" badge to it.
I had forgotten about the EoEs because I've never bothered to get or use them. I just plan on dying in that mission, and it's only going to be by the long-range AoE glob of doom.
I imagine the real reason there is no Master of for this, as Sarrate likes to #@$#@ CHIME IN WITH STUFF I FORGOT ABOUTis due to the EoEs negating Hamidon damage. I assume they also do the same for Mito damage and effects? Again, I never bother with them.
Would I run it as a Master of? Sure. Would I do it more than once? No -
Greetings and such. New to the server/this forum section, but far from new to the game. Hopefully I'm not stepping on any established toes with this time, but I'd like to get in some weekly TFs with a Defender I got going over here if there is interest.
2/17 - Sis Psyche TF - 830 PM EST
Level 20+ for XP. Would like to start no later than 830PM; will start as soon as everyone is on though. Would like to use as many Forum folk as I can as it tends to make starting TFs quicker, and a tad smoother through out.

For the LGTF, the only "hard" part is Hamidon. While I'm not sure, but I doubt it, his globs of goo can't be defense'd against. While it wouldn't be impossible, I'd imagine it'd be the hardest of the Masters to get overall? Tack on the utter neutering the Greens can do to a team as you get rid of the Mitos, and it just wouldn't really be worth it. *shrug*
Besides, it's way more fun to aggro him and the yolk balls to play nice with the Rikti horde. If you're doing it as a tank, you're a #@$%#@ @#$ #@ %$% $#@ slacker...... >.> -

I can be a possible. Time might not work quite right for me. Could bring a dark/sonic Def or Ill/Rad troller.

Wait, if you have Hamster and Satanic Hamster both playing, isn't that like bringing matter and anti-matter together and the server explodes? -
I've forgotten more about life than you'll ever experience

Quote:I lol'd.
You bringing anything in particular, Ham, or are you wanting to see who else shows up and grab one of your many heroes to fill in whatever gaps we have?
Sorry. Good luck though. -

Quote:Label me pessimist, but it sure feels like some super-powered spin doctoring to me. They are doing everything possible to garner guaranteed GR sales as possible; of course that's always the goal, but to this extent? *shrug*Don't forget the "end game" content, too.
That said, they are giving away a lot of GR goodies early. Wonder if they had the manpower to get that stuff out now, and add more stuff to GR? Either that, or this was the plan all along? Bah, who knows. (Retorical question: those who know can't talk anyways, so...)
The only things I was interested in from the known information of GR is coming (total guess here) 3 - 6 months before GR.I'm sure it'll never be explained until after GR, if at all.
-
Forward em? I'd be interested in what those contained
My opinion doesn't differ from yours much, I just care less. -
Since people keep mentioning stalkers, maybe I won't care what I bring :S
I assume Penny is bringing her cold? Can bring a Bot/Dark, but the bots tend to go aggro-happy regardless of control. Can bring a Widow and run around with 60%+ Defense, and maybe share another 30%+ with everyone else after that. Or can bring a Bane/Huntsman build for more AoE dmg/debuff and a good chunk of defense. I'll roll the dice and hopefully make it. -
Once we got down to 6, the number of Rulie bosses went down a bunch. So that helped. Plus, ya know, I debuffed the hell out of stuff.
Didn't get any good drops, but did get an 80+ mil random roll recipe. Still stayed up too late
I already turned on the airing of grievances the other day. -

Please please please tell me you are not a data analyst of any kind for any company, and more importantly, not for any friendly government.

I'll preface this with: I do not disagree with the idea of the article, or you Mental. I just think the article was heavily skewed without any real thought beyond the rant. And secondly, this even isn't a topic I care about overall, I just dislike when actual thought isn't put into use.
Quote:But there has been changes to zones; yes, they are slow coming, but they do exist. They have a vastly different opinion on what is "worth the time and effort" than the playerbase does. Yes, more should be done IMO, but then again, how much of it is actually going to be used (over the life-time of a character)? Especially for low level-only material?Voo, I have a different interpretation of the comment regarding Faultline. I think the main thrust of the argument was that in other MMOs, the environment changes as you level up, giving you a sense of accomplishment as well as keeping things fresh. I don't think the point was to eschew instanced content in favor of zone content; I think the point was that revamped Faultline is pretty cool looking, and wouldn't it be great to have the same attention to detail and effort put in to instance maps.
As for the bolded, they have put effort into instanced maps. CoV came with a ton; blue side has gotten quite a few. I'm sure there will be more in GR.
But you cannot have that kind of detailed art for every instance, and to have it come up more and more often, takes away from it being "neat" or "special". There's a balance, and I still think the Devs are working towards that, in that regard.
Quote:There are so many things that could be done with maps to make the game more interesting. The suggestion in the article of a steam-powered Nemesis base is a great idea... how come we don't have that in the game already? I would love to see more varied environments, more environmental gimmicks (traps, etc.), more faction specific tilesets... just more stuff! GR is a perfect excuse to add this to the game.
Quote:CoX will always be a heavily instanced game; that's a large part of its appeal. In an interview about CO Jack said that CoX was "too" instanced, but all I think he meant by that was that if you're going to go that route, you better have a metric ****-ton of maps to start with,
Croatoa was a pretty big shift from that concept. And it's a great zone....for 5 - 10 levels. And then you're done with it, until the next time. I don't particularly want to see that kind of giant shift again.
"End Game" is where they need to focus, and I think they are now going to, finally. I just wish they had done it before this GR lag.
Don't even get me started on the notion that, given "enough" "end game" "content" (see the quotes, they all mean something different to different people), there will be the camps of "too much", "not enough", and "this isn't what I want!$!@#$!". -
RE: the article - It's lambasting instanced missions and comparing it to zone-asthetics (faultline). When was the last time you were on a team that wanted to strictly stay in a zone and fight mob after mob? I know I never did. Ever. Not even when this game was a wee baby trying on it's spandex for the first time.
There is only so much scenery/tileset you can put in instanced missions; it's still going to be a grid of some size, with open lanes to travel through, filled with mobs. Even the "outdoor"/custom/completely different instanced missions get repeptitive. And the bigger they get, the more annoying they are IMO; and when in teams, they choose to head/fly up high and scout for the objective anyway.
I'll agree doing the exact, and I mean exact, same layout umpteen times in a row would get on my nerves, but overall, I just don't care for the tilesets that much. Be it a "warehouse", or "office" or "cave" or an "artificially restricted outside setting". They blend into what I actually enjoy about the game; flashy lights, big explosions, falling bodies, and making fun of teammates when they can't kill me.
Roaming vast lands of lush scenery for hours and hours just isn't what I want. That's why I'm here. Yes, it'd be great to get some new color into the instanced missions......but you will get bored of them too. And faster than you think, because there really isn't much you can do to the grid you play in.
If tileset is a major concern for "new" content to you, I'm glad you're not in charge of the gameThere are some great custom/never-seen-anywhere-else tilesets strewn throughout the game. If they were more used, they just wouldn't be that interesting.
/rant . Go back to your regularly schedule dume -
I dunno.....I wouldn't be surprised considering how they treat us!
I mean, we pay for this game! For their lively hood! And they treat us like this?!!?!? I can see them having no friends. And probably eating their own family. They are mean and stupid and evil!

Ya know, I really only have myself to blame for this. No one can say I didn't try!
As an idea of what goes on, last night's group ran the Maria Hero's arc through Ozone (since she's notoriously flaky as a regular contact) so that everyone could get sync'd and merits. That's the general focus in trying to keep the teams managable and it's worked great IMO.
At the end of the night, I had to give Penny 700M Inf for playing with me. But that's just status quo
