Ok, they're still running away all the time, and that's on Test Server. I can only assume this means no fix for this problem has been implemented.
It's been six months since this thread was started. Surely something could have been done in all that time? -
Well, I'd love to try the open beta, but I'm having an issue. I copied my COH game folder and named the copy COH Test. I modified the updater exe shortcut to include -test. It still wants to reinstall the whole game, which would take around 14 hours and then some. I have a whole folder fo files for it to update from, why does it need to download EVERYTHING again? Can it not just update what I've already got? Is there no way to reduce the 14 hour download?

The other day, my Mastermind was doing the second of the Midnighter missions, the one where you end up facing Kadabra Kill and his wifey.
For some reason I can't fathom, Kadabra Kill spawned as a +6 Hero (I was playing on Villainous, the minimum difficulty). I was able to peel away his escorts and defeat them all (tough to do, they were all purple conns). I then went after the hero himself.
He's a Grav/Kin character with healing, holds and so on. He was capable of one-shotting all my soldiers at once. He slapped a hold on me, used siphon speed and ran away at mach 9. In a matter of seconds, he had healed all the damage I had managed to do (which wasn't much).
At one point, I actually got him down to about half health (much resummoning, and many inspirations), at which point he siphoned speed and zoomed away to regenerate. It was physically impossible for me to catch him, slow him or immobilize him. Tar Patch had no effect once he hit siphon speed.
If he would have stayed and fought, I would have eventually beaten him. As it was, I had to drop the mission entirely because he kept running away.
This IS a problem, and I think it's fairly serious. -
The worst are the Tsoo Sorcerors. They beam in, screw up your healing (or whatever you're trying to do) with Hurricane and then beam out, dragging all your pets across the map, aggroing everything.
-
What I find frustrating is when I'm playing my Mastermind. I'm constantly telling my pets to follow because they're off chasing some runner through every single spawn in the mission. It's very annoying, and it HAS been happening a LOT more lately.

For my part, I've lost a ton of respect for NCSoft. This obvious cash-grab is a page from SOEs book. Buying features for the game in this fashion puts us on a slippery slope, folks. They can charge us for each little tidbit of each "update" now.
I'm very disappointed in NCSoft, and I really don't care what the new stuff looks like; it's the principle of the thing. -
Well, I have to say I was underwhelmed by this iteration of the invasions. I was on for several hours each day of the invasions, and all told was involved in 4 invasions. I couldn't get the one badge that I needed, I saw so few rikti (the Bomb badge).
Id' like to see the Rikti actually make a serious go of it, and make nearly continuous raids during these raid periods.
Actually, I'd like to see the raids completely revamped to give the Rikti actual objectives that we're supposed to try to stop.
For example, a raid in Atlas might be tasked with destroying City Hall. The Rikti start at the map edges and move in. We'd still see some beaming in, and of course the ships would continue bombing, but now they'd be doing so with a purpose. Also, if this was implemented, the ships themselves should be made more vulnerable. Soloable even (with difficulty), by high levels. If stopped, the raid ends for a period of time (say, an hour). If they successfully destroy City Hall, they would move to an adjacent zone, like Steel Canyon, and attempt to accomplish an objective there. This would go on until they are stopped.
I'd also like to see the signature heroes (Ms. Liberty, Positron, BAB and others) actually help out during these events. They should remain near their usual spot, but if rikti come in range, they would move to attack.
But then, I've been saying these things since the Rikti invasions FIRST came around. -
Name: Robert Douglas MacKenzie
AKA: The Canadian Shield
Tanker: Invulnerability/Super Strength/Flight (/Energy Mastery)
Bio: Robert MacKenzie was born in 1912, shortly before his father, Ian, left his home in northern Ontario to go fight in the First World War as a pilot for the Royal Air Force.
Ian MacKenzie was shot down over enemy territory, and was rescued by a French widow. They fell in love, and escaped back to freindly territory, where he continued flying for the RAF. It turned out, however, that his lover was actually a German spy. Given the option of turning her in, or being executed with her, he chose to try to escape. She tried to escape alone, and in the ensuing confusion, she was killed. MacKenzie was captured, and executed as a spy.
Robert thus grew up never really knowing his father. As soon as he could, he joined the RCAF, hoping to redeem his father's name. In 1940, he got the chance. Called upon by the RAF, he was sent to England to fight against the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain. He soon distinguished himself as a brilliant pilot, and a capable leader, and he was highly decorated.
At the same time, a revolution was happening. The Germans were fielding an increasing number of superhuman operatives. In response, the Allies began researching ways of creating "Super-soldiers" of their own. The British, looking for a fit, capable and heroic leader, chose MacKenzie for their program.
The Americans were the first to achieve success at creating the first Super-Soldier. He would go on to great success and fame, even before the British finally created their own.
On December 3, 1944, the "Great Canadian Shield" was born. While his American predecessor possessed peak human physical abilities, the Canadian Shield was capable of superhuman feats. Phenomenally strong and resilient, he was capable of resisting any small arms fire, and he was strong enough to tear tanks apart with his bare hands. Unfortunately, it was too late for him to make a serious impact, as the war was drawing to its conclusion.
The Canadian Shield took part in only two significant battles. The first was the fall of the legendary Reichsman. In this battle, the Canadian Shield was introduced to Statesman for the first time. The second was his epic battle with Der Grausigkeit (the Horror), another of Hitler's favorite operatives, second only to the Reichsman himself.
As the war ended, The Canadian Shield was decommisioned. He was a hero, but felt profoundly disappointed. He had been given such tremendous power, and he never really had a chance to put it to good use. Feeling ashamed, he went home to find he no longer fit in.
Many soldiers returning home from wars feel out of place, but it was even worse for MacKenzie. He was different now, vastly powerful, a giant among gnats. Worse, as time progressed, he realized he was no longer aging. Feeling alien, he began wandering, concealing his great powers and his identity.
For the next fifty years, he lived like that, changing his name and identity periodically. Until, that is, he came to Paragon. Here was a place filled with others like himself. Among all the other superhumans, he felt less alien. Even more, his old comrade, the Statesman, lived here. Feeling like he fit in, he followed the example of those around him, and for the frst time in half a centry, donned the old red uniform of the Canadian Shield.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since his return to action, he has found his powers have grown. Once, he was strong and tough. Now, his strength is beyond measure, and there are few forces in existence that can hurt him, let alone kill him. He has discovered he can now fly, by means he cannot explain, and his speed and agility have increased to superhuman levels.
He has also retired his wartime garb, in favour of the red and white his nation now uses. He has become a familiar sight, soaring over Steel Canyon, his red cape flowing in the wind.
The exception came with the return of the Rikti. He had come to Paragon too late to drive away the Rikti the first time they invaded, but this time he was there. Once more, the Canadian Shield went to war, so once again, the foes of freedom faced a Canadian Shield clad in the red uniform of old. With the Rikti defeated, he has since returned to his now familiar red and white.
The Council, in particular, have come to know him very well, as he regards them as the heirs to the Third Reich, and goes to any lengths to thwart their plans. Heaven only knows how he'll respond to the 5th Column... -

I said, "no" can be a legitimate reply, but only if the post it is responding to does not pose an argument to which the "no" is in response.
Posting "Yes" would be sufficient. Saying "Yes" refers to the reasons given in the argument above, so reiterating them is unneccesary.
[/ QUOTE ]
However, this ignores the fact that we are not voting for suggestions, but we are supposed to discuss them.
Neither Yes nor No, unless accompanied by new arguments, are relevant in that light. Which takes the wind out of the sails of the 'I want to be able to answer No' proponents, as they attempted to argue that it would be 'unfair' to disallow No but allow Yes. Rather than attempting to argue that one one-word reply is more acceptable than another, just agree that neither helps with the discussion and that both should be avoided.

[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed, though I don't believe I ignored anything. As my examples illustrate, when a thread is about a question, Yes or No can be equally valid answers. It's when there is argument/discussion that No becomes invalid but Yes remains valid (though hardly descriptive).
"I [also] probably should shut up and let this particular thread slide into oblivion now the initial shock of being moderated is wearing off of the frequent posters here." -
I said, "no" can be a legitimate reply, but only if the post it is responding to does not pose an argument to which the "no" is in response.
For example:
I post, "Do you think Blasters should be nerfed?"
"No" is a perfectly acceptable response.
I post, "Blasters should be nerfed because of (Several reasons)."
"No" is not suffcient in this case because an argument has been presented.
Posting "Yes" would be sufficient. Saying "Yes" refers to the reasons given in the argument above, so reiterating them is unneccesary.
Simply saying "No" refers to nothing. Which reasons does it refer to, if any? Does it refer to the initial premise? There's no way to know. Having no point of reference, it is a meaningless response. -
"No" can be a valid response, but it is never a valid argument.
As I've said before, if you expect anyone to give any credence to your reply, you have to support your position. Saying "no" offers no argument to support your negative response. As such it is to be ignored.
The person posting in the affirmative has no requirement to explain his reply. He can simply say "yes" because the reasons would have been outlined in the original post or argument.
The person posting in the negative bears the responsibility of providing a counter-argument. Saying "no" is insufficient to this task. -

Same here, I dont owe any of those whiny little feces factories a damned thing. Besides, some of the dummies who post a suggestion wouldnt accept any kind of disagreement, no matter how well thought out, because they cant accept they are wrong.

Again, if you want your objections to be paid attention to, you have to support them. Otherwise, they're meaningless, and a waste of everyone's time.
Likewise, calling people names does nothing to strengthen one's argument. -

There's a point being missed.
If someone poses an argument or presents an idea, and someone else posts "Yes" or "/signed" after it, no further explanation is warranted because the explanation was presented in the original post.
It's if the argument or idea is disagreed with that explanation is required. Simply posting "No" is ignorant in these circumstances because it dissents without making an argument.
On that basis, simply posting "Yes" is acceptable because the argument has already been presented and posting "No" is not, because it presents no argument.
[/ QUOTE ]
You miss a point too. (which is somewhat strange since you actually made the point too)
People who say yes, or /signed, want to build support for the idea. And they are able to whether they want to (or can) expend the time to even really think about the idea and come up with a few sentences, or not.
But you suggest that people who do NOT like the idea MUST expend that extra time and effort, even though they also, may only want to give their input and SLOW building support for a bad idea.
trying to object, should NOT be harder than showing support.
Neither should be inhibited.
.
P.S. I also have made the point that they did not say that "/signed" was not on the alert list. (but will you, with a straight face, tell me that you honestly think they would warn people about agreeing with too many posts? Go ahead. Try to say that sincerely now without cracking a smile.)

But therin lies part of the issue. When you provide support, you're providing support for a premise that has been presented. The reasons for the support are already available for scrutiny.
If you're goin to disagree with the premise, you have to provide the reasons because they have not already been presented. Simply posting "No" doesn't do that.
Re: PS; I wouldn't say that because of the reasons I've described above. -

Either way, there was nothing to say that posting "Yes" was any more acceptable. As mentioned, the list provided was hardly exhaustive.
There is a segment of the population here that gets its jollies from being rude and insulting to other posters. They hide behind the anonymity of the internet and seek to elevate themselves at others' expense. Frankly, I feel that this kind of thing is long overdue. If that makes me a "carebear" or a "baby" then I'm delighted to be so labeled. -

I skipped Punch, as I find Air Superiority fills that gap admirably. It does about the same damage, and is much more reliable for knockdown (and therefore damage mitigation).
I took Hurdle instead of Swift. Originally, Superman LEAPED everywhere, and this allows for that to some degree. His "super speed" is found elsewhere.
Hasten and Flight account for his speed (and Sands of Mu, in my case).
I don't use Taunt, so I slotted Hand Clap for taunting instead. Yes, it knocks foes flying away from you, but with some taunt enhancers, they remain taunted long enough to come back to you. Additionally, the power just screams "super strength!"
I saw Focused Accuracy as a variation on his sensory powers, so I took that.
That's about it. Your comments are otherwise spot on. -
While everything mentioned is very nice, I have to admit to being somewhat underwhelmed.
The Ouroboros "flashback" system implemented as (yet another) time travel bit is somewhat lame and asking for trouble, story-wise. I had hoped for the ability to exemplar down to whatever level I wanted so I could run missions in the zone of my choice (My Scrapper, as a Batman-type, makes his home in King's Row. It would be nice to defend the CURRENT King's Row rather than going back in tmie to defend a hypothetical King's Row). Still, there's some potential here. I look forward to being able to go back to WW2 where we can fight at the side of Statesman against the Nazis (which is part of my Tanker's history).
Dual Blades? Meh. I'll never understand why everyone wets themselves over dual blades. They're unwieldy and difficult to master, and the "Kewl" factor just isn't there for me. On the other hand, the combo system portends good and ill. One of the things I hated most about most side scrolling fighters (Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter) was the need to know 4 billion combos, just to be effective. Still, in moderation it could be interesting, and it should be good for PvP.
Custom Weapons are long overdue, and I'm pleased by this, even though I'll not personally benefit. I have often thought Shields should have been implemented as a costume piece instead of an actual power set (be Invulnerable, and define it as being due to the shield). Perhaps this will allow that.
New Inventions are for blah. I still don't use the old ones.
Thus, I give what I see here a 6/10. Decent, but not earth shattering. -

I've been stuck with "Ultimo." since I first started playing because somewhere there's an "Ultimo". Of course, if he's L7+ I won't have that chance anyway, but one never knows.

You may find the actual problem to be that there is a Marvel Comics supervillain named Ultimo.
[/ QUOTE ]
That could be too, though "Ultimo" shows up when I add it to my friends list, which suggests to me there's a character out there with the name.
I'll point out, as I have before, that Marvel's Ultimo is a less well known character, and there is some uncertainty whether their version or mine came first. I used to make comics, and Ultimo was my flagship character (hence my forum name and my Blaster). From what I hear, Marvel's came into being around the same time mine did. In any case, I've had no trouble, likely in large part due to the fact that my character is completely unlike Marvel's. -

"Punished," eh? Well, to use your term, if you're being punished, it's not because you thought of a name first, it's becasue your account was inactive for 3 months or more.
It's not heavy handed at all, it's reasonable. The simple solution for you would be to activate your account every three months and preserve your name rights.

I think the current policy is fine, under level 6. No sweat. But there are people saying that lvl 35 or under some even say 50s and under. I don't think I am overreacting when I say that is heavy handed (some people are even demanding names be stripped from active accounts!?!?!), especially with red names stating specifically that the most names regained would be from chars 5 and under.
As I stated before the ONLY people that can make an informed decision on what level range would net the most names are the people with the data. IE not a bunch of forum dwellers.

There is no guarantee that the ubername of enlightenment will become available, And people demanding that the lvl be changed when the devs said explicitly that there would be diminishing returns above lvl 6 are just being doom seeders over a very non doom issue.
I am not pointing fingers at any individuals here, I am simply stating that a lot of these posts are raving for stricter policies that would indeed effect me, as I am new, have many low level alts, and am prone to deactivating my accounts for several months at a time due to rl concerns or simple boredom.
So yeah, if I thought of the name first, I would be getting punished by having it stripped from me if these heavy handed policies were enforced.
