It's been a really long time but I haven't forgotten you all or the contest art I started oh so long ago. I'd like to apologize to everyone still waiting on art from me for the disappearing act. Some times things just fall to pieces..
I know I had said in the OP of the contest that I'd work on and post each entry as they are listed in order of winners, but this one just called out to me. I had a very strong feeling of where I wanted to go with the character and it all came together perfectly.. So, here is White Clover. I have another already in Photoshop (the Underdog) and early sketch work started for another so I should be able to maintain a steady flow of character art and finally see this project to it's end.

Thanks guys! Aside from the stockings scanning in a little too light, I really like how this one turned out. While doing the sketch work I wasn't sure if it was "anime" enough but once I got it into Photoshop I think everything came together fairly well.

The first of the contest art has been finished and posted in my art thread! Here's a LINK

Here is the first from the winners list of my Bishoujo forum contest!

Thanks CR, those are some great links!
As for defining what bishoujo means for this contest, I intend to draw the winning characters in the "pretty girl" anime style. So even villains and monstrous characters will be getting a makeover with the cuteness bat.. lol I will of course do my best to adhere to the costumes posted but as with most of my work I may make slight alterations. The characters will be full color with a simple background like the NGE Asuka sample in my OP. The only other thing I'd like to add is that this project will take some time. I'd like to ask that everyone be patient and I will post each one in order of the winners list as I get them done. I estimate the total project to take roughly 2 months based on other things I've done of this scale. I realize that sounds like a really long time but I'd rather be quoted with far too much time than not enough. I plan on starting the character art this weekend and will post finished work to my art thread and DA gallery with links posted here.
Completing the winners list as the final selection today is White Clover by Ephemeris. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone that entered. There were a lot of really great contest submissions!! -
Geeze.. you don't waste any time do you? I just e-mailed these a few days ago. LOL
Anyway, I like how your shading is developing. Good shading really gives depth and presence to the character. My only suggestion is to try going beyond the outline and take the shadows deeper into the figure. If the fire is your light source you can bring serious definition to his muscles and even show details in the face mask that were never drawn in. I think once you develop a stronger sense of lighting and shading you'll see a dramatic improvement because everything else is done fairly well. -
Quote:Wait.. there's a costume thread!? O.o I really need to spend more time on the forums. I love designing costumes and a thread like that would be a great outlet for me!By the way, the Masked Shrike is an awesome character; if you haven't seen her you should dig up some pics from the costume thread and whatnot.
Ok... it's getting a lot harder to pick cuz there's some really great entries and only two spots left, but after going over the thread for about 20 minutes I've finally decided on today's winner. Congratulations go out to VexXxa for her character Touche! Thanks everyone, see ya tomorrow for the final winner!! -
LOL @ the_fox_rox & Caemgen
It's all good. Darkavia is practically my main on Virtue server so I've had to deal with gender confusion before, it doesn't really bother me. At least not until I encounter some ERP perv lookin' for some action... ROFL! -
Quote:LOL, thanks CR. Sorry about the confusion (if there was any) my avatar picture use to be an early photoshop image I made of my Dark/Ice Defender, Darkavia. I love that character and have a lot of fan art for her.Originally Posted by ChristopherRobinI doubt Tim is a her.
Anyways.. getting back to the contest, Wednesday's winner is Caemgen with Grom Diabhal. Congratulations! -
Hello all, it appears that everything it working again! Not sure if today's server maintenance had anything to do with it but the bottom line is that I'm not blocked from the site any more. =)
Seeing as Judging is only behind by one day I've decided to choose 2 winners today (qualifying as Monday and today's) to bring the contest up to schedule. So without any further delay, I'd like to congratulate EnnVee and R-Tech for their entries of Raven Nevamore and The Underdog! Well done guys! -
Yeah, Caemgen is correct. I limited the contest to one character submission per person for the whole contests to make it easier on myself while giving everyone a fair shot. If even half of the CoX community Alt's as much as I do they could likely post dozens of toons where as some people only play one or two characters. As for CR's other question, the character entered is the character drawn. I'll be evaluating costume design, color, and other elements based on the Bishoujo "pretty girl" theme so I can't accept alternate characters after an entry has been selected.
As with the last contest I ran, I'll go over all of the character submissions each day so everyone has a fair shot regardless of where/when you post. =) -
Hello all, it's time once again for another FREE ART CONTEST hosted by yours truly!
This works in a similar way to a costume contest in game but is hosted here in this thread. Participants can post character submissions based on the guide lines provided below. Judging will run from Monday April 4th through to Friday April 8th with one character being selected each day (5 in total). Character submissions will be accepted starting today until the final day of judging. Each selected character submission will be added to the list at the bottom of this post and I will pm the entrant to notify them of their winning entry. For those unfamiliar with Bishoujo, this is a Japanese anime/manga art style focused on “Pretty Girls”. Here’s what you need to know to enter;
1. Players can submit heroes or villains but the character MUST be female.
2. Please link to screenshots of your character to keep the thread easy to read.
3. Only one character submission per individual.
Screenshots : Please try to get the full character in the shot and make sure it is in a well lit area. I can’t draw what I can’t see, so keep this in mind for your best chance to win. Although not necessary, a 3 point view (front-back-side) of the character would be helpful.
Art Work : Unfortunately I can not give a time frame as to how quickly I will be able to complete each winners art piece. As time becomes available, I will work on each one in turn and post them as they are done. All finished work from this contest will be posted in my art thread here on the forum, my DeviantART gallery, and linked to from this thread. I will also PM each winner once their art work is posted.

Here's a LINK to my previous free art contest if you missed it the first time around.
Although not necessarily bishoujo, here is a LINK to an anime piece I did to give you an idea of what to expect from this contest.
WINNERS LIST
1. Raven Nevamore
2. The Underdog
3. Gorm Diabhal
4. Touche
5. White Clover -
You're welcome. =)
I have to agree with CR on the Girl Crush piece, she turned out really well. At first I was a little worried about the clash between the characters hair and the pink in her outfit, but once the flats were done and I started adding details it looked fine. -

Here's the final bust from the five character set I started back in January.
Girl Crush

Thanks guys, and you're welcome HP! Steamshot was both challenging and fun to work on, and his bust is now my favorite out of the set. I think forcing myself to make time and work on these last two character busts really helped pull me out of the mud (so to speak). Not being a big fan of the holidays (X-mas & V-day) combined with months of gloomy weather has left me feeling lethargic and even a little depressed. But getting these pictures done has really help put me back on track!
Seeing as I messed up the order of character busts I listed in my OP, I'm putting the pressure on to get this last one finished. It still might take a few days cuz I haven't even finished the line work but my goal is to have Girl Crush posted this week. =) -
I goofed up the order, but I've finished two of the remaining three character busts. Here's a link to Steamshot and Justice Maiden!

I kinda cut myself short on time to do this one and I think it really shows.. I apologize for the rush job, but I really wanted to get this done and posted.
Justice Maiden

Thanks guys. I've been practicing new painting techniques and I think some of that really paid off in this character bust. The tarnished "steam punk" armor is my favorite part of the entire piece and turned out much better than I though it would.
-
I finally managed to get around to finishing the 3rd Bust and here it is...
Steamshot
-
Yeah I think we're on the same page there. I really enjoy the sense of power and strength I was able to achieve while not "de-feminizing" the character. Although there's not a lot of the character visible to get a firm grasp of perspective, my concept for the bust was to be looking up at her. I don't think that aspect of the piece came through as clearly as was originally conceived, but over all it still turned out good.

I know it's been a while since my last post. I've been in somewhat of an artistic slump the past month or so and I've found it really hard to finish any of the projects I have on the go. But, finally, I have the second of five from my x-mas Free Art contest/post thingie..
Here's Siberian Spring!

Sorry for the long delay between posts. I want everyone to know I'm still working on the character art and plan on having a few more of them finished by the end of the month.
