  1. Awesome piece Spino! But, wouldn't that get a little cold to wear during Paragon's winters? =O_o= As for loin clothes in game, they could be done as a belt option maybe?

  2. Whoa! Doug's work is always awesome! That is incredible.

  3. Wow! That is some really great stuff! =@_@=b

It's probably too late and you've got a ton already, but feel free to draw my Ice/Ice tank Tundara.

  4. Neato! I like the shading. That's really a well done piece.

My concern is what do they mean by 'overwhelmed' ... =@_@= I knew them priests were bad news ... >.>

In another part of the zone, Castle led an attack on a Rikti destroyer with Soul Train, Tundara, Skarmory, and Lady Z, but they were overwhelmed by a group of Rikti priests.

    Durn Priests!

Thanks for putting my name in there. I really was enjoying the article up to then, but that solidified it's awesomeness for me.

  8. Ooo That is really well done and cool.

I dont know which one I'm more excited about.. being able to move my lvl 50's to a new server.. thus allowing me to make room on Guardian or creating a new home else where. or the possible server-less open enviroment that's coming out "soon"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I see the server-less enviroment being something that is just being sorta kicked around the office as a pie-in-the-sky dream idea, not something we're liable to really ever see (as awesome as it could potentially be. Take THAT Server consolidation!)

Being able to Transfer and Re-Name toons though, that has me really excited. It will let me change my old Ice/Ice mains name and then bring across my Ice/SS to use the name. Mind you, I wont need to do that if Castle would be a love and do the fixes suggested in the Fixing Ice Melee 2.0 thread. See linky in sig for thread...

If you want my feedback, I'll be brutally honest. I really found it grating and iritating. The constant plugging of the various IO names was at first a little neat but got to be like a finger nail was being dragged across the nerves very fast. A lot of them seemed to be stretches and inconsistent with the articles voice. The worst bit was the in character bit where Qaurterfield uses three different IO Names in as many sentences...

The in-character nature of the article was alright in concept, but having the interviews that were breaking the 4th barrier created an inconsistency that was jarring, and for me, interrupted the flow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So, presuming for a moment that I had either been more clever in performing the interviews, or had asked for more license in working the quotes into the piece: Does this work better?

    - Protea

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, that is much better, in my opinion. The piece maintains it's RP perspective, flow, and is still informative. Much much better Protea.

Actually, what I was thinking about was Short Stories now that the Comic's are gone, but the Scoop isn't really a suitable vehicle for them, length being a potential issue. You could do them in bits or parts I suppose. Also, Arctic Sun mentioned somewhere I believe that he's come up with some idea to take over where the back-pages of the comics left off.

Ah but Tundy, you could send in an example of what you'd like without joining us. Resistance is futile... Or send in something when the mood strikes you fancy without joining us. You will be assimilated... Or just yell at me when I screw up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But... But... You guys seem to have everything covered, more or less, exempting my personal distaste for BtM's handling. >.< There is a lot of rough edges still and the Scoop still has (and will likely always have) it's 'small town gossip paper' feel, but otherwise it's not half bad. What could I add...? Unless... Nah... it'd never work...

You know you could try doing a few for us to show us how you would like it done. We all have our own style for this and would welcome another viewpoint.

Which, incidentally, how MissAlphaOne got added to our team.

Sadly, I don't have the time. I've got two separate novels on the go, plus housework, the never-ending efforts to get Ice Melee a couple of highly needed buffs, edit/alter my guide to get it ready for version 1.5, cook dinner, and then I've got my commitments (such as they are) to actually playing the game.

For spending 80% of my day in the same freaking chair, I sure don't have much spare-spare time to put towards other projects.

I'm honestly curious to know if you, the readers, think the Scoop handled the "not yet live" nature of this change better this time around. I deliberately wrote the piece from a Live-server perspective, and we also added an editor's note at the end to clarify that the changes were Test content.

The piece was directly influenced by feedback given on last week's Scoop. We really do read (and appreciate!) your feedback and try to use it to improve.

If you want my feedback, I'll be brutally honest. I really found it grating and iritating. The constant plugging of the various IO names was at first a little neat but got to be like a finger nail was being dragged across the nerves very fast. A lot of them seemed to be stretches and inconsistent with the articles voice. The worst bit was the in character bit where Qaurterfield uses three different IO Names in as many sentences.

The in-character nature of the article was alright in concept, but having the interviews that were breaking the 4th barrier created an inconsistency that was jarring, and for me, interrupted the flow. This is a real nagging pet peeve of mine. If the article is going to be from the Role Play perspective then avoid having comments from players out-side that perspective. You even tried to add the RP element to some of the decidedly un-RP comments, but it felt rushed and sloppy. Like-wise, though they are RP comments, the bit from Faathim the Kind made me grimace, mostly because it was very cliche. I'm no stranger to writing cliches. Every time I do I want to pound my head onto a brick wall.

The inclusion at the end that this was from the test server was excellent. I'm glad it was included. The handling of the Not-Yet-Live nature, as you put it, was very well done and easily the best part of the article influencing it's entire theme and progression.

Overall Protea, the writing wasn't bad, it just didn't reach it's full potential. The inclusion of the IO names should have been half or less then the number you had. The none-RP comments should have been cut in favour of finding/using ones that fit the RP nature of the piece instead of trying to force their square peg into the articles round hole. You had a very strong opening, but sadly it quickly lost it's pace.

    All my opinion of course.

About the interviews: Teldon was busy this week so I volunteered to cover for him by supplying some in character interviews.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought it was a pretty cool change up. I'd like to see both types of interviews, maybe alternating weeks?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or one or two of each one. An In Character interview and an Out of Character interview of a player. Not the same player mind you. >.> Either way interviews should be more like interviews, and less like the old 'Email me the answers to this questionaire here.' I really dislike how the BtM has been handled. This weeks stuff was rather good, even though I have absolutely no clue who the people are. So, I'd rate it like this; Personal Interest: 0, Format: 9.

Have to agree that the scoop on an event on the test server was a little misplaced. Make the scoop about the live servers, please.

I read the first city scoop moments before reading this one, and overall I was very impressed with both. I like the variety of stories and articles.

    [/ QUOTE ]

We’ve talked about this amongst ourselves, and we’ve come to the conclusion that the Test server contains its own community that should be treated exactly as well as the other communities in this game (servers, PvPers, fan art, etc.).

We also decided that it was a mistake to not acknowledge that this was a test server event, and that this news was relevant only to those that care about either Issue 10’s progress or the test server community. In the future, we will be more mindful of that. To put it more bluntly, shortly after people pointed out our mistake, there was a large collective slapping of foreheads as we realized our oversight.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My fear is that all the latest and greatest stuff will always be on test. Well, maybe not the "greatest", but the "latest" for sure. Do you want to do an article on Wentworths, or Striga when there is a bunch of stuff most players haven't yet seen happening on test? Probably not. You can't say test is like any other server when it gets all the updates first. All the new bling and shiny will always be there and my fear is that all the articles will focus on that. So all the players may feel like if they don't play on test, they may never make it into the scoop's splashy front page.

What wrong with waiting till things are on live and reporting on things that all the players can relate to or be a part of? The exciting things that are happening now to real heroes, not mirror images. Otherwise, the city scoop becomes a "What if?" comic book of events that maybe drastically different (or irrelevant) by the time they reach the 'real' City of Heroes and Villains.

If test is reported on, and I agree that many cool and relevant things may happen on test, maybe it needs to be part of a 'time warp dimensional' column each week. 'Dimensional warder forecasts', etc. But please don't make it front page news when there are plenty of interesting things happening on live servers that everybody can relate to.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree for things like the 'Steel 70', but things like Timeforce 2 and other hosted events of that nature that are about bringing people from the different servers together should be covered.

    =. .=
  22. I have to agree with Zombie Man, this was a test on test of a new issue that wasn't even complete yet. As the latest patch shows they are tweaking the Dropships still. Yes, a big hearty congrats to those that participated, you showed that the Dropships are underpowered and need to be toned back up again. This is no different then when Hami was brought down during I9's test. A good job was done, Golf cart clap, pats on the back, and what have you, but not something to be trumpeted about from the tallest towers.

Truthfully, it was something that, like testing Hami, HAD to be done. There had to be a test of the Dropships where it was seen what their limits and capabilities were. The whole 'Steel 70' thing is starting to get out of hand and smack of hubris.

Personally, though the article was well written and put together, I do not feel it was something that should have been in the Scoop.

The rest of the Scoop was great. A want to give Lady Athyna a big hug for the Horoscopes. I love the ones she pulls of her star chart program. The classified add for the Freak Barbershop was great as well. Valks Behind the Mask interested me, but the others were 'meh' from my perspective. Oh, and thanks for the final clarification on just what the Behind the Mask is supposed to be Marcian.

One other thing, I found the plethora of links to become distracting. The sharp blue everywhere began to detract from the visual presentation. Personal preference thing most likely.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, I got 'Hate Posi's Voice Work' penciled into my calender.

But I didn't hate the voice over, it just felt misplaced. There was a wronginess to it. Hmmm... I think I have it. The voice used felt like it was coming from a college or high school football jock. What was anticipated was something more like the gritty voice of a sergeant. And before you ask, I have no idea why i think of sergeant's voices as being gritty.

So my suggestion from all this is to not avoid the people that are "famous" on the forums and on their own separate servers/sections. They should be the first you focus on IMHO. The forums are what gives this game a unity if you look at and read the different sections. Most everyone loves the game despite perceived shortcomings.

*cough* Tundy and Ice Melee *cough*

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if I was just insulted or given an excellent compliment... Since I know Laser as well as I do, I'll take it as a bit of both.

Now, if you went to the Tanker section and posted a thread asking for names of Famous people you'd see dozens of names. Each section has it's own famous people. Maybe what should be done is something like that. Ask the people who'd they'd like to hear about. Also, certain interviews fit better in certain sections. An interview/BtM with one of the art people fits better in the art section naturally. Personally, I think it would be better to drop the server angle and go to an AT angle on the Interviews, maybe also PvP. An interview with say J-Man might only interest portions of the Freedom commuinity, an interview with Evil Geko, Arcanaville, or Aett Thorn (these are names that just leap to mind) would interest people (hopefully) from multiple servers because they try to promote and help an AT, not a specific server. Just a thought. >.>

And, if Teldon wants to, he can send me the questions, I don't mind. Not sure how many people would be interested in reading an interview with me though. *shrug*
