Thank you very much, that's exactly what I needed to hear. I appreciate all of the info you, and everyone else who has posted, have given me. It's been a great help.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm checking out iBuyPower now. I have to admit, my eyes start to gloss over when I see all of the options.
What's the discernable difference between the Intel Core i7 860 and 870? Is there that much of a noticeable difference to warrant spending an extra $290?
And what about video cards? Which ones should I be looking at?
I apologize for all of the questions, and appreciate any and all input. -
Quote:Thanks. I came across the G73JH in a quick search yesterday. Seemed decent to me, but I'm hardly an expert in the technical department. I'm just looking for some opinions more informed than my own. If I'm going to spend the money, I'd like to be sure it's going to be worth it.Well laptops aren't my expertise. I'm basing my recommendations on purely technical details about the laptop GPUs (video) and how they compare to desktop ones.
Looking about I've found a few reviews for the 3 G73JH models built around the mobile version of the HD 5870. The differences are the two more expensive models (that are currently out of stock) come with two 500GB hard drives Vs one and swag (backpack, matching mouse).

Quote:Thanks everyone so far for the input.Which is the problem with laptops. What's only a $100 mail order video card for a desktop is very high end for a laptop.
I've only found 4 laptops somewhat suitable at NewEgg. All are part of Asus's G for gamer line of laptops. All use the 1.6GHz (Turbo Boost to 2.8GHz) i7-720QM quad with HT CPU, 7200RPM hard drive and 64-bit Win 7 Home Premium. One uses the GTX 260M (about the same as a desktop 9800GT) coupled to a lower rez 1366x768 screen while the other three use the Mobility Radeon HD 5870 (somewhere between the desktop HD 5750 and 5770) coupled to a 1920x1080 display.
Should I assume that since you say "somewhat suitable" that you wouldn't recommend them? Like I said in my OP, I wouldn't rule out getting a desktop, and if that's just flat out a better option, I'll go that way. I looked the the rigs in your signature, but I don't want to build it myself. So, I suppose at this point, I'd be looking for desktop suggestions. -
So, my computer pretty much bought the farm today. It must've overheard me talking to a guy at work today about thinking about getting a new one.
I'm looking for suggestions for a new one. Since CoH is the only game I really play, I figured here would be a good place to start. I don't want to build it myself. I'm looking for something that will be able to run Ultra Mode. I'm leaning towards a laptop, but wouldn't completely rule out a desktop. As far as budget goes, I'd like to stay under $2000. I'm open to pretty much any and all suggestions. -
Is there a way to make a boss fight where the group consists of multiple EBs/AVs, like the Freedom Phalanx battle at the end of the Lord Recluse Strike Force? I'm trying to have the end of the mission require taking on 3 at once? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Witha big chunk of the forum dwelling player base backing it, I wonder how long it will be before the devs release the Clickey-Clack badge.

Let's here it for the Clickey-Clack badge

Yes, how about a giant oscillator monster to go with it. We don't have ANY flying GM's yet.

So what possible benefit could the Devs have had from suppressing it on purpose, seeing as it was obviously going to come out anyway?
[/ QUOTE ]
I suppose by making the change a fait accompli, the devs might reduce the duration of complaints a bit. If it were revealed while on Test, people would naturally complain while on Test, then continue once it was pushed live. Here, they can only complain during the live phase. The devs could conceivably have kept the change hidden in the hope that the furor would die out quicker this way.
I think that's unlikely, since it would imply the devs are absolutely committed to sticking to their guns and pushing through a change they know will be unpopular. If that were the case, you'd expect them to mention it to Lighthouse in advance. :-/
I suspect this is just an unusually glaring mistake in the documentation process, but that doesn't mean it can't be deliberate. There's a reason the old saying that 'it's often easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission' is a saying.

I find the mistake claim to be a little weak in this case for one reason: They already had 2 missing patch notes (the Rikti portals and the Ouroboros Welcome to Vanguard changes).
When they added those in, no one thought "Hmm, is there anything else we changed that was left out?" I find that slightly hard to swallow.
I was almost sure that this was an unintended bug in the new patch based on that. Having it turn out to be completely intended was disappointing. I'm not going to get too worked up about it because, by and large, this current crew has been pretty good at communicating with the players.
If this was an honest mistake, so be it. I'm just not buying. -

All right Devs, so this isn't going over so well quite obviously, and with good reason. Way to make things more difficult for the casual player! Honestly, whether or not it benefits a farmer I really don't care, but when you start compromising the game for the casual player you're not doing yourselves any favors. As has been mentioned numerous times, several players dropping on a TF for whatever reason is not uncommon. You're discouraging players from doing TFs because they're a large time investment which now more than ever has a chance to be nothing but a waste. Look at the TFs individually to address the individual problems therein. I think this was just a really bad solution to what really wasn't that big of a problem in the first place.
Don't punish all for the "sins" of the few.

I'll second or third or however many people have hit on this idea in this thread. I'll apologize in advance, I didn't read every post.
Vitriol hurtling about in regards to farming and rotations and whathaveyou aside, this really does strike a blow to a casual player who may want to attempt a Task/Strike Force. I consider myself a casual player these days and with this new change, I would be extremely hesitant to attempt one of these with a pick-up group. I'd be quite disheartened to invest a few hours only to hit a brick wall due to people losing connection, quitting, or other things.
I understand the idea that these are meant to be team activities, but this is really going to serve as a punishment or deterrent to the casual players or those that don't have active SuperGroups or regular playing groups. The people that it is intended at will probably be affected the least. They'll find another way. They always do. People will always find the fastest or most effective means to an end.
I understand the reasoning behind the change, but believe this may not have been the best solution. -

How many tankers could have previously had a career as a quarterback for the Chicago Titans (the meta-human alternative to the Bulls).

Not to nitpick... ok... it's exactly to nitpick... but the Bulls would be the Chicago basketball team and they don't have quarterbacks... usually...
Seriously though, the concept as a whole is rather intriguing. But I can't shake the image of the old Mutant League sports games... I miss those games... -
Ok... I gotta ask... can you spawn Kronos in Skyway? I thought he only spawned in Founders' Falls... I have been away from CoH for a few months, so I could use some re-education on this...
