Quote:Doing a nerf this harsh in response to people crying on the forums is a real bad indicator where the dev team is going with this game. That's why I'm being vocal about this issue. I enjoy this game a lot, and a lot of that has to do with the fact it isn't like other MMOs, nor do the devs have the mindset of those other MMOs. Ever since Trials/Leagues have hit beta I've been very concerned about where all this is headed. My worries have been at ease so far, and I'm enjoying I20 A LOT, but this is....not a good sign. Then why not just say "They stopped balancing the game around PVP a LONG time ago?"
Hyperbole and sarcasm don't always come across in plain text.
And you're still coming across as someone saying, "Waaah, it's not fair, why can't I have more cake than the other kids!?!"
This isn't me crying about "wahhhh why can't I have more cake than the other kids!" If this goes live it won't affect my play-style or my favorite characters one bit. I know there are MANY MANY more people it will though, who get real enjoyment out of reactive in its current form, who refuse to participate on these forums due to certain types of people it attracts. -
That was my way of pointing out they stopped balancing the game around PVP a LONG time ago. They know it's dead in the water and that the VERY few people who do mess around with it are not their target customers. I honestly thought any vet to this game would understand instantly what mentioning PVP and game balance in this game actually means.
-
Funny, you mention game balance, which is all well and good and something I DEFINITELY agree with, but this isn't a balance issue. If this was any other MMO with an actual PVP component I would sadly have to nod my head and say "ok, I understand why" to this. But alas! This game doesn't do PVP! It's PVE only! So why, when they are introducing this incarnate system to make our SUPER heroes more SUPER, are people pulling the "game balance" card? If you haven't noticed this is only changing things for people on a solo or small team level. Considering it has barely any effect whatsoever with teams greater than four, and how they are pushing trial content which, so far, has up to 24 people attacking things simultaneously, I'd say that is pretty balanced.
I can understand changing how it works from it's current state on live. I don't agree with it based on how few things it affects, how bad the rest of interface is, and the fact we are supposed to be OP, but people arguing that "well if they can't balance it due to technical limitations then so be it if it can only hit one target". That is an amazingly narrow view and should seriously be shouted at and pointed to another game. -
Really? REALLY? This is exactly the wrong way to think in regards to THIS game. THIS IS A SUPER HERO MMO. If you want to be gimped and a roleplay a weak little dude that relies on 25 other weak little dudes to kill a pack of 5 undead horrors GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. People don't play this game to fulfill some sheeple fantasy where you can only get things done extremely slowly or need a whole gaggle of people.
God, I just want to bang my head every time when people argue against stuff like this. It's a text book knee-jerk reaction and if you can't see that or recognize it in some way then there is no hope. My thought process to stuff like this making a few powers really strong in only certain situations which don't affect ANYTHING about the end game in its current state is....GOOD FOR THOSE PEOPLE AND THEIR NEW FOUND FUN.
Sorry YOU aren't having fun being over powered to those wee baby minions and LTs but someone else sure is.
*My favorite character is a Ele/Shi brute with no rain powers. -
Quote:Exactly how I feel. This is as kneejerk as kneejerk can be. Entirely not what I would expect from this studio considering other things they have fixed in the past.Wow, sounds like a pretty intense kneejerk overnerf. Thumbs up Paragon Studios...
From what you guys just said it is now worse than normal proc's in an aoe rain? Surely there is some middle point between 'every spawn nuke' and essentially non-existent in the power?
Perhaps not though... sigh -
Good job whiners. *golf clap*
Instead of pushing to get the other pieces of interface in line we get....this. -
-
Quote:Exactly. The content is supposed to be hard....at first. And as you get more OP the content starts feeling trivial....then they release more content and the cycle starts over. I've noticed with my MMO experience that most new content is hard/v-hard at first due to lack of knowledge or gear/abilities. As you get the rewards that the new content gives, it becomes a LOT easier due to you being more powerful and knowing how to beat it properly.Actually, the Devs *fully* expected this.
In early pre-Beta, before we even had the Alpha shift, we were able to get into a groove in completing the iTrials after a few weeks of 50/50 defeats with minimum sized teams.
Throw in +3s and access to 4 Incarnate Powers, well, it becomes easy mode.
So, when certain folks were howling to high heaven that it was too hard, the Devs very purposely ignored them because they knew *factually* that that was not the case.
They knew it would be duo'd and as is happening on Virtue, 'Speed Runs' of Lambda. That's why Tier 4 was gated behind Very Rare drops and time-gated Empyrean Merits. -
Quote:OK you don't want DOTs. Easy enough...there are two paths for each tree. One path has DOTs the other doesn't. Fixed.Just adding DoT to everything then hoses those people that dont want DoT attached to all of their powers.
The more logical thing to do is make them so they are all viable choices so that a player picks what they want, not what they feel driven to take. Just like how fireblast and sonic blast and darkblast are all viable choices. One may be he clear choice in some cases while another is the better choice elsewhere.
I dont think making all mild variations of the same thing is the answer, nor is jacking them all.up to the debatable strength of reactive.
Then again i think reactive is fine under scenarios that dont distort he normal attack rate. -
How am I just seeing this? This is awesome and makes me smile. I am curious though, will the +level INSP put you over +3 in a trial? If so....nice. I'm using these.
Annnnndddd what do your macros do? -
Quote:I think adding DoT to them all would be great. However, the DoT from ALL of them should probably stack together. So you still dont get more than 4 or so going at any given time.
Yeah, not a bad idea for a balancing standpoint. Everything gets a DOT so you have debuff diversity (what the devs want), people have incentive to take the different Interface stuff, and they still get the fun and hilarity of the damage DOTs for their interface without breaking trials.
With that said, I do still think the current effects for the other interface need to be either massively boosted or just flat out un-resisted. -
Quote:Honestly that is a GREAT question. I'd start off making the debuffs unresistable though. I think a lot of people would love if the -regen portion of Diamagnetic was actually worth something.Allow me to ask this: how do you bring the other interface abilities to the same level of performance without adding DoT to them as well? In the presence of such outstanding damage other factors such as debuffs and control become sub-optimal. After all, why slow or debuff the tohit of an enemy that has 4 seconds to live?
edit: Actually you know what? make the de-buffs un-resistable AND give them all DOTs. Why not? You would definitely start seeing lots of variety with what people are picking. I know the question was "how without DOTs..." but I personally don't know without just flat out giving them a big old damage proc like some IOs do. Well, actually why not just do that also? Make them all fun.
*disclaimer* I did not put a lot of thought in to the edit portion...but hey, DOTs for all of interface. -
Quote:Cute. That is unfortunate as you seem very undereducated in this area. But if your baseline is a team sized nuke that is up every 15 seconds, then everything under performs - including reactive for anyone lacking a rain.
Edit: maybe content will scale up but if it makes reactive rain look weak then pretty much every existing power in the game will be weak. Which wouldnt be very good game design.
If it wasn't already clear by my post before, that was my semi-polite way of me saying "you don't know what you are talking about". Either that or you come from the Emmert school of MMOs. Not sure which is worse.... People arguing about fun and ridiculous powers in a SUPER HERO MMO is always a bit mind boggling to me. So what if people mow through minions and LTs like they are quadriplegic kittens? When they square off against that Hero/AV class enemy that is NOT the case (most of the time). It's fun, working as intended (stated by the devs), and only being "looked at" now because of people crying on the forums.
Also I've been playing since launch and I know the mechanics of this game extremely well to say the least...people that play with me can account to this. I am well aware of how this proc works and I EXPECTED it to work this way in pseudo pets considering how these abilities have always worked. Personally I am very happy with reactive and it's hilarious and fun to make use of. Lots of people love it, especially for the fact it's given new life to some of the weaker builds. You like to argue "but woe are the people that don't have any rain powers!". My favorite character isn't my most powerful, not even really close, and he doesn't have any rain powers. That doesn't change my opinion on reactive. Not to mention my first 50 was a claws/regen...which if you know anything about the game you already understand why that character being horrible, comparably anyways, to every other scrapper secondary is disheartening. Yet you don't hear me crying to bring other secondaries in line to regen?
Don't cry for nerfs to one power. Cry for the others to get brought in line to be as good.
...even if you consider it a nuke why WOULDN'T you want that? That's AWESOME. Are we playing the same game? Because last time I checked AWESOME is....AWESOME. Not to mention nukes on AV/Heroes are "lol whatever". -
Quote:I stopped reading after this part. I don't say this often, but you are wrong and the opinion you have is wrong.I'm not sure I necessarily agree that the other interface choices are that disappointing.
Honestly, LTs/Minions are a joke before/after I19. If those mobs are what you are basing your opinion on then go +4x8 and load up boss/EB/AVs. There is a difficulty slider in this game and I believe a lot of people have forgotten about it.
If you were solo-ing AVs before this barely changes anything and it allows some ATs tosolo AVs now. I don't see a problem with this. I'm fairly sure the new content down the line will be extremely challenging and make the current perception of reactive a joke. -
Quote:Yeah but you are complaining about it on undoubtedly the most overpowered controller power set combination in the game right now. For every one person that doesn't like it and voices their opinion of their dislike there are probably 100 more that are in love with it and to busy playing the game to voice their love.I don't find it at all fun in sleet...
It overwhelms everything else about my toon, which was carefully and meticulously crafted.
My sleet now makes old PSW look like consume from a damage standpoint...
I can walk through a x8 mission using one power and finish faster than I could before using my entire build (multi billion ill/cold that is undoubtedly faster than the vast majority of builds out there to begin with). That's fun for about 2 mins to me and then gets incredibly boring.
No doubt it is terrific for actual attacks, it is a great and strong proc. But in fast ticking rains it is beyond ridiculous.
I have issues with the rest of the Interface tree to be honest. The others are hot garbage. Let's take Diamagnetic for example. The -Reg got people excited...until they saw how horribly low the amount was. The the way AVs resist -reg it becomes pointless. If they had made the rest of Interface as good and balanced as everything in Destiny (omg everything in destiny is great) then we wouldn't be proclaiming how amazing reactive is (or complaining). We would be going "omg I am worried what we are going to be fighting because HOLY CRAP I'M SO AWESOME RIGHT NOW". People should feel that way about ALL of Interface. Not just one part of it. People feel that way with Destiny though. I have T3-T4 versions of every Destiny and they are all amazing. -
Quote:Seriously hope by saying "looking into" you mean "trying to bring up the other interface powers".Hello everyone,
I have read this thread and understand your concerns. We are currently looking into this issue.
-TheNet
The way reactive is right now is FUN. It's something to really look forward to getting.
This game is about fun....right? -
Do you have your build posted anywhere? Or are you one of those "my build is sacred" types?
-
After today's patch (May 3 2011) I have been experiencing very noticeable input device lag. I am using a Windows 7 x64, ATI 6870 video card with Catalyst 11.2., Intel processor. Yesterday before the patch I was not having this issue.
There is a very noticeable delay between my mouse/keyboard inputs and actions on screen. Everything from clicking on menus to even typing in chat.
edit: Disregard, this went away on it's own a few minutes ago it seems. Maybe trying to play right after servers went up was the cause or something on my end I wasn't aware of. -
I'm willing to accept respectable offers on this. I would definitely like to avoid eating the market cost of listing this thing.

Bump for new price, and keep in mind PVP set bonuses work regardless of what level you are playing at if you have it slotted.
