Duel Ladder Rules:

All ATs allowed

All powers allowed (Lore incarnates banned, poison controllers banned, everything else legal)

All maps are legal- maps will be set to random

Small Inspirations only

Travel Suppression will be turned off
Heal Decay will be turned off

If both duelists agree to different rules, then they may fight under those rules.

Duelist will fight 3 rounds.

If a player loses the 1st match they may withdraw and not have to fight again.

If matches result in 3 ties, or if they both win one match and tie the 3rd match then both players will lose 5 pts

All players will start the ladder with 1600 points.

If a player changes characters in the ladder they will have their points reset to 1600.

Players may only enter one character in this event.

Points will be calculated by an ELO system with an initial k value of 20.

note- all rules are subject to change.


Challenge Rules:

Starting on Sunday till Wednesday Anyone can challenge UP (anyone higher ranking than they are).

After Wednesday If you haven't been challenged you can challenge DOWN.

You must always fight the highest challenge (it doesn't matter if its your challenge or a challenge to you).

If you are challenged by Wednesday you must accept it (ie... prior to people challenging down).

If you are unchallenged by Wednesday and want to challenge down, you MUST wait till Friday to do your matches- just in case someone higher than you wishes to challenge DOWN to you. (See rule 3).


Fights are to be held Friday Nights at 9pm est, or if both participants agree they may be scheduled any time Friday/Saturday/Sunday

If a player fails to answer or show up for a match it will count as a loss, unless they post they are unavailable that weekend.

If a player will not be available for a specific weekend they must post it by Wednesday of the fight week.


Players may only miss one week, the second time they miss a challenge it will count as a loss (even if they post they are unavailable) the third time they miss a challenge they will be removed from the ladder and their points reset to 1600.

Results must be posted in this thread by the winner by Wednesday of the week following matches. If the winner fail to post no points will be awarded.

Really depends on what kind of pvp you want to do/enjoy.

Zone pvp is easiest to get into- just pop into any active zone (yes Freedom has the most active pvp zones). Self suffcient builds seem to do really well in zone pvp. Things with self heals, hiber, phase etc. Scrappers/stalkers do ok solo in zone because of their high damage, high survivibility. For zone teams ranged attacks/debuffs is the way to go.

Arena pvp is also very active on Freedom, people are listing KBs almost nightly, it may take you a few rounds to get into a match as usually only 16 people play per round, but coming to KB with a useful character and being available to use vent is a huge plus.

At the most basic there are 4 types of roles in Arena pvp: damage, disruption, setup/debuff, and buff/heal.

You don't 'need' incarnate powers to pvp, yes it makes things much easier but its really not make or break.

As far as builds-

If you solo pvp a lot I would suggest ele/wp stalker, spines/wp stalker, km/regen scrapper, or Km/fire scrapper.

WP on stalkers is pretty much easy mode because it has a self heal, a max hp power (its awesome NOT having to do accolades to get to hp cap) and you also won't get Kb'd.

KM on scrappers is pretty nice, it has pretty bad acc due to the lack of a true build up power, but CS does crazy damage and can be proc'd like a stalkers AS- 3 nucs and 3 procs. /regen is nice for the heals and the t9, while /fire gives you some pretty good resists, a fast recharging self heal and some extra fire damage to your attacks when FE is up.

For arena pvp-

You might try blaster as it is one of the easiest roles to play on a team. Psy/em is what most people play due to the delayed damage which allows you to have multiple attacks hit a target at almost the same instant creating a large packet of damage.

And finally as far as zones-

Freedom RV (people will have incarnates)
or
Freedom Sirens (people will not have incarnates).

Strange but true.

Victory is just where I've been running PvP Bootcamps and trying to get players who haven't tried pvp to try it.

So far its been pretty good. Like Shu said, there is a 1v1 duel ladder starting this Saturday with a seeding tourny and most likely the 3v3 (teams of 5) will start in Nov.

Bug's team should be pretty nice, for a while it looked like he might get Well and r0y to come back.

Keeper-
I understand your desire to play in matches, but in any competitive game you don't just let someone who hasn't shown himself to be dedicated or up to par with the rest of the field play.

Getting wrecked doesn't really teach you anything other than "oh yeah this is where my spawn point is". You would be better off coming to practices, KBs and trying to learn evasion routes, how not to plant, how to not use auto follow, how to watch your buff tray (I'm not saying you do/do not these things, I'm saying its the very basics).

I don't get why people have this sense of entitlement, I signed up YOU MUST PLAY ME. Thats a perfect way not to get drafted. If you were to say "hey guys I'm willing to come to practices and try to learn how to be a part of the team" I think you would be far better off.

Having said that- in the bud bowl, you were on Rice's team you did show up to almost every practice, you did try your best to play your stalker/tank in the roles we needed you too. Be that guy again, I actually liked how hard you were trying back then and saw you progress a lot.

As far as my comment about teams of new players not lasting- if you go back and look at most of the recent leagues teams made up new people to pvp almost always drop out of the league because they get in over their heads- eternal pain was a good example of this. You do need some sort of leadership or at least an idea of what a team is throwing at you and for that you need some vet players to show you the ropes.

But what I'm saying is, their desire may not be in their best interest.

Getting 'game' time shouldn't be the focus of their attention at this moment. If that truely is their belief...wow...

How many people started off in pvp playing in every match. You pretty much had to earn that right.

I still say telling new players to pvp to form a team is a bad idea, they won't last.
