So with that in mind, you have my apology for assuming your mocking was aimed at a lack of understanding the word.

(I still think everyone should read more. Expand their knowledge base. And beat up teachers who don't do their jobs... Err, yell at! I mean yell at teachers, of course!)
Np. I'm not exactly known for my complete immunity to jumping to conclusions, myself.

    Dearest Caemgen,

The supercilious inflection of your literary benefaction causes concern over the current pulse of this game's community.

Rather than care to conceive of a relation between several words to which the aforementioned focal point of my amusement in regards to the official publication may incite a double-entendre capable of arousing a chuckle (highlighted by the entirety of the red line, as VexXxa pointed out quite competently) it seems as though you insist to conjecture that the source of my merriment is my own poor lexicon. This is of course just prior to a rather adolescent attempt at demeaning my contribution- which, to be quite frank- I had foresaw to be of value to the senses of at least some. Clearly, though, I was in err to make such the preemptive deduction that one as literately astute as yourself might be able to decipher the intricate method by which the particular grouping of words in question were arranged, as it incontestably led to a response reminiscent of unabashedly youthful callow.

This being said (the phrasing is tongue-in-cheek, as noticeably this has not been spoken but rather typed instead) my capacity for regalement is exhausted and I find myself now impassive to the notion of further lengthening this parody of a response.

    A sincere regard to you,

I already issued a DMCA counter-notice to both my ISP and contacted the ever-so-vigilante complainee via third-party. The former was very understanding when I pointed out that my entire business uses their infrastructure and I've have no problem with dropping both accounts, and the latter hasn't bothered to respond. Finding out how to issue a proper DMCA counter-notice is an annoying thing to do, and strangely not a lot of people seem to know you there is a provision in the DMCA for defending oneself outside of court... but that's a rant for another board.

As for the legitimacy of the company... it seems to be, if you consider attempted extortion "legitimate."

If you go to the settings in the launcher you can edit the autoupdate settings and disable them. Hope that helps.

As it turns out, I may have got my RAEG!!1 hard-on a little early; I watched the processes, and for some reason Launcher.exe wasn't terminating when CoH's exe ran. Didn't bother getting too deep in to it. I just removed CoX, rebooted, reinstalled, and followed your suggestion with disabling Launcher's auto-update.

    +1. Done. Thanks.

    1. There is no secret P2P module that CoH uses except for what is known as the client-server connection. What do you think is secretly being transferred in this way, copyrighted boombox tunes?

    2. You can't have an illegal copy of OpenOffice... it's free.

Go back to your ISP and let them know that they have workers smoking crack on the job.
Unfortunately, there is. It's purpose seems to be for downloading the game client and distributing patches- this isn't what I have a problem with, though. It's the fact that it keeps running for as long CoX is open, regardless of whether or not you're running Launcher or CoX proper.

I know OpenOffice is free; EVERYTHING mentioned in the fwd'd notice is freely distributed under GPL, and I've already notified my ISP about them. The only exception was City of Heroes- not sure what license it's distributed under, as with just about every other MMO but the client is freely available... so including it as "evidence" of illegal file-sharing is nonsensical even if I HAD downloaded via a conventional P2P application. Don't get me wrong, my ISP has been very cooperative, and I'm not in any danger of going to court... I'm just a little miffed about how I found all this out and the fact that if I want to play CoH, I basically don't have a choice about whether or not it's P2P services are run in the background.
  5. Hey, I was wondering if in a future update it might be possible to include an easily-accessible option to disable City of Heroes/City of Villain's stealth P2P process... at least when not actually patching/updating.

While I understand that this makes it easier for all the companies involved in CoX's creation to deploy client files, the fact that you're essentially using my LIMITED bandwidth for anything besides what is necessary to actually play the game is concerning. What's more worrisome is that this sneaky Process is so well-entrenched in the EULA that I've apparently missed it several times. It wouldn't have even been brought to my attention if it weren't for my oh-so-knowledgeable ISP.

I experience enough lag as it is without also having to worry about whether or not the idiots at my ISP going to forward me another DMCA complaint for having "among others, illegally downloaded Pioneer 1[sic], Xubuntu, Ubuntu, OpenOffice, and City of Heroes".

    Thanks!

No, I hadn't; it's on my list of things to do now, though! Thanks!

Okay, point, but then that's not saying there's no endgame content available. That's saying that you (figuratively speaking) don't like the endgame content that's available, which is a totally separate issue.

This mindset also comes from games like WoW, which don't really "begin" until you hit Max Level and start doing raids and other "endgame" content.
Don't we already have that in the form of Rikti/Hami Raids, badge-hunting, Super Rare Purple Invention Enhancements of Doom for Everything, PvP, et. al? Maybe I'm just in the slow class, but my main is a 50 that I've had for well over a year now and I'm struggling to keep up with just getting badges. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever done a Hami Raid...
  9. You know, I've never understood this whole "Endgame" thing that people always ask for in an MMORPG. How exactly do you "end" a game when it's very nature requires it to be perpetual?

If you really want to be able to "end" your character's career as a hero, Villain, or Praetorian then you really have no further to look than the big red DELETE button.
  10. Alright, so here's the deal. After a few months of furnishing my new apartment, I suddenly realized that I have a ton of wall space. On top of that, I have anytime-access to a large-format printer capable of popping out 2400 x 1200 DPI. Like any young MMORPG-playing bachelor would, I naturally thought "Surely the lady-folk will be impressed by a 27x40 inch poster of my main and his Praetorian counterpart back-to-back!"

So, with guaranteeing the failure of any pooty-tang achievement trophies in my immediate future, do any of you experienced Photoshop Gods and Goddesses have any secret techniques or tips for creating really large and detailed screenshots, or rezzing up smaller ( < 1920x1200 ) screenshots?
  11. LAZINESS WARNING: I went through four pages, and I'm not gonna go through six more to find a particular sentence. I'm also not gonna spend twenty minutes using Search while trying to think up every word that's a synonym of- or similar to- the word "clone". Therefore, warning, possibly-already-asked dumb question ahead.

Wouldn't it make more sense from both an efficiency (and possibly business-model) standpoint to simply "clone" all or most of the non-CoOp, non-PVP zones in the game and turn them in to CoOps?

It/they could then be released as a package. Perhaps a "one new zone from each side" tacked on to the [censored]-end of an Issue, or as one or two issues containing all zones, or even released commercially as a paid expansion pack.

    ~Shrugs~

My post count was low, so I figured I'd just throw that out there.

EDIT: Oh, btw, I do love the idea. Apologies to the OP if it seemed like I was trying to kill it.
