Regina Marshall, the one not known to Paragon City as the Fallen Rose, but known throughout the seamy underground of the Rogue Islands as the Fallen Duchess, had a moment of genuine happiness and gratitude for her child's fortunes. Her daughter, Roselyn, was going to go to school again. The decision was to help the girl better find her own direction in life and have some marketable skills to offer the world. Not necessarily contribute to the world, but survive in it... take from it if need be. She had some lingering doubts a year ago about letting go of her girl go. Regina shook her head smiling while watching her exstatic and backpack laiden daughter cross the flightline and disappear amongst her old classmates, also whom were exhuberant to see Roselyn. The Fallen Duchess just sighed briefly expelling a mixture of aprehension and accomplishment then walked away back toward her life with the seemier side of Cape Au Diablo awaiting her. She looked back one last time to see Roselyn, or atleast Roselyn's hot fuschia pig tails for about six months.
Roselyn greeted her old classmates and looked at some the new students. A year before there wasn't a Freshmen class or a Sophomore class. Roselyn smiled to her old roommate and bestfriend, Marie LeLoux. The difference between returning students and new ones was night and day. The returning students had their uniforms. Student jackets with the silohuette of the Black Wings on left breast. Then all the students heard it all at once. Almost at one time, the returning student body shuddered and became deathly silent as 'His' voice began booming over all others. The Petty Officer...
"FALLLL INNN!" Petty Officer Miller's voice boomed across airfield bringing even some of the trolling Arachnos Wolf Spiders to a halt. The upper classmen quickly rounded the new comers into a decent enough formation, atleast to them, then hastily assembled themselves into a formation. Miller looked sufficiently impressed that the brief five week vacation for the children did not erase any of his training. He appeared infront of them in his campaign cover, the only other time kids would have seen it would have been on Smokey the Bear, for the few fortunate enough to have seen that. And even for the ones that never have seen one before, to a teenager, the people wearing those hats walked differently, talked differently, liked only thin air and yelling... at everything. Them especially. And that hat was the stuff of nightmares for new comers for the first five nights. And much to even the dismay of the returning upper classmen, there were more of those 'hats' walking around them now. The advice given to the new students was this: 'Don't Move, Don't Breath, and DON'T LOOK AT THEM' Miller moved with precision, all his movements were done with what was 'snap'. And his gaze seemed to look straight through people, or made any one person feel singled out. He never moved his head and only scanned the formations with his eyes. His minions, other drill instructor like staff descended upon those who could not keep still, or did not demonstrate the correct posture. Miller lifted his and then turned his attention to the Junior and Senior class formations. "ALL SENIORS AND JUNIORS REPORT TO THE BRAVO HANGER" his voiced echoed across the airbase once again. Roselyn sounded out with her class as it did with the Senior Class in loud voice, the acknowledgement of the given order, "AYE AYE PETTY OFFICER MILLER!". With that the Roselyn and her classmates moved hastily to a Hanger were they would be assigned to their new rooms and find out who their roommates would be. The Freshmen and Sophomore, all new comers this year, were left to the care of the Petty Officer. The Freshmen would live in barracks for the next two years. The Sophomores would only live in them for one.
Roselyn frowned as she squirmed to find a spot amongst the twenty some odd new and old fellow Junior classmates in the hanger. She settled down finding a spot not too far from the front of the pack. There infront the Junior class and Senior class bodies was the Chief Instructor, Mr.Lessmen and the Exec, Mr. Brickenridge. Both men were looking through some sheets of papers, the student roster for the year. Appearing moments later was the other Instructors, Ms. Damier and Ms. Cruiz. Both seemed to be in very good spirits as they both non-chalantly walked up to the table to assist in room assignments. All four of the instructors lamented they wouldn't be done until three in the morning. As Roselyn remembered, the first week always, in a word, sucked.
Lessmen began calling names in sets. "Hmm.. lets see... seperate boys and girls, right? Heh" they all let out brief laughs and Lessmen resumed "...alright then. "Yates and Carmen" Brickenridge sounded off with his own list of names "Morsen and Chen... both of you live in room 12 Bravo of Turner Hall." Roselyn drifted into a day dream about the possibility of having a male room mate then snapped back to reality when the instructors suddenly found themselves with no other student pair Roselyn with. Brickenridge looked at Roselyn "your got your own place... for now... still live there as if there was a roommate with ya. Cause we will have some late arrivals." Ms. Damier, Violet, to her colleauges, weighed in "we still have like 15 seats in the Junior class that have yet to arrive. So you never know" Damier smiled. Roselyn nodded with a hasty reply "Yes, Ms. Damier".
Roselyn and the rest of the Juniors and Seniors gathered their backpacks and or duffle bags and began toward their new residence in Turner Hall. A large town house converted into a dorm. Roselyn looked at her number printed on a piece of paper, complete with combination to the door. She read the room number "thirty-seven A". She sighed, that room was on the third floor. She got into the room and looked around seeing twin size beds on either side of the room. At the foot of each bed was a small open closet for students to hang their uniforms. In Roselyn's case, and her classmates' cases, it was to hang 'neatly pressed uniforms'. She sighed and threw her backpack on the bed across from her. She laid back on her bed wondering what was next and who'd be sleeping in the bed across from her.
