You did however miss the entire point of my OP. I DID NOT say to stop working on dual blades. I said to make it a villain (brute and stalker) only power because the taking of human lives goes against the super hero code and Paragon Cities own "Citizen Crime Fighting Act of 1937".
[/ QUOTE ]
Why are you still harping on this? It states heroes can act as cops. Cops kill all the time. Often because they like it. It's been covered. You have no valid point against it. Quit spewing the same inane garbage if you're going to keep trolling this thread.

When a police officer uses deadly force, even if he doesnt kill the perp, he is placed on administrative leave, the department does an investigation into if the use of such force was justified, and the results are sent to a civilian review board. If the officer is found to have used deadly force improperly, the officer is subject to criminal prosecution. -

Cripes...
We're still on this?
Look, the decision has been made. The votes were tallied.
[/ QUOTE ]
This argument has been already been de-bunked in this very thread by Back Ally Brawler himself. There was no "vote", just a "poll". The devs took the poll into consideration, but also "other factors", which where not mentioned by name.
BTW: Shields won that poll, but was left out. -

Statesman, im calling you out. This power set has NOTHING to do with comic book heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, but it has everything to do with players recreating their GW, EQ and WoW characters in CoH; which is the mindset of how the majority of players vote.
"Hmm. How can we make CoH more like every other fantasy MMORPG? I know! Loot and more medieval weapons! Yay!"

Thank you

Still assuming "the people" are mindless idiots that don't know how to have their fun? Why be so angsty about how you perceive people play? Would you be so surprised that my Dual Blades/Willpower character I'm making is a high tech futuristic person? Nothing to do with the previous fantasy games I've played before.
You guys are still kicking and screaming that your choice on the poll did not win. It sucks, I know but the decision has been made and the work is being done. Heck, I even wanted Force Field for a defense set but Willpower and Shields are going to be crazy fun. If you still feel like arguing why Dual Blades' production should be stopped in favor of making a new powerset delayed until Issues 12, then be constructive about it and don't casually toss out weak arguments.

Ok, im going to look over the rude, and snarky part of this post and say that you do have some valid points. Mainly that new powersets, ANY new powersets is a good thing. Thank you for pointing that out.

Ah yes. I did make a mistake there. Going by the logistics of that Citizen Crime Fighting Act of 1937 however, means that current killer offensive sets would need to be removed. Which is pretty much all of them. This does not bode well for a combat MMO.
The major strength of this game Statesman has said is the moment to moment combat. So anything that adds to that makes it that much more fun. What you're saying is that lore in the game should take precedence over fun. That's just [censored] backwards. I'm not going to go into game design philosophy but to generalize: games are designed with fun in mind before the other elements.
[/ QUOTE ]
Im not now, nor have I EVER advocated the removal of powersets already in the game. Yes, I agree that the game should be fun and fast. But the way I see it, CoH already offers plenty of powerset choices for players who wish to be a "killer" heroes, but few for "the good guys".
Lets break down the Scrappers.
Claws: Killer
Katana: Killer
Broad Sword: Killer
Spines: Killer
Martial Arts: Not Killer
Dark Melee: Not Killer, but could be RP'ed that way if you choose.
Also, the MA set is limited to kicks. All you have to do is watch a UFC fight to know that MA has punches, elbows, knees and throws. I won't even mention the Bruce Lee style nerve strikes, open plams, and bone breaking.
Nothing says that just because the moves are "non-lethal" they can't be fast and brutal. It just takes a bit more imagination then porting over the rogue class from WoW. -

The power sets I wanted weren't even on the polls.
-Super speed melee
-Street fighting
-Super Stretching
-Staves
All of these have way more presence with super heroes and comics than some of the options that were trotted out with that poll and that's just looking at the ones that start with 'S'.
Dual Blades won because WoW players want to port their Rogues into Stalkers. Period.
.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a valid argument. The list of powers on the poll was pretty lame. Ball and chain? This clearly (like dual blades) is a villain only power. Electric hammer? Clearly a rip off of Thor's hammer, and gawd know we have a enough "single hero rip off powers" in CoH already. -

Here, I'll make it easy.
"The city council and mayoral elections of 1936 swept a platform of pro-hero candidates that resulted in the passage of the Citizen Crime Fighting Act of 1937. This law made it legal for vigilantes to bring criminals to justice as long as they followed the same restrictions police officers use."

So, shoot to kill, not to maim.
Except, with the excellent healing about now days, you could get away with maiming, now, I think

I can't wait for the civil trial.
Skull: I was standing on the corner, minding my own business when Sword Guy snuck up behind me and chopped my feet off!
Head juror: We the people find the defendant, "Sword Guy", guilty of malicious wounding, super hero brutality, assault with intent to maim and order him to pay restitution to the sum of 1.25 Billion dollars. -

The point of this post is that Super Heroes DON'T kill people, and that it's pretty much impossible to arrest someone using a pair of knives and NOT kill them.
I have no problem with CoV and dual blades, it fits the bad guy motif quite well, but CoH? Gimmie a break.
It's funny, I looked over my 2 servers full of heroes, and out of the "killer" weapons (katana, axe, broad sword, claws, mace, assault rifle) I have a grand total of 1 character. That being a lvl 1 katana using joke toon named "Wild Bill Kelso". So from my point of view, we already have 6 worthless, unusable powersets in CoH, why bother adding more?
[/ QUOTE ]
Plenty of heroes kill. PLENTY of them.
Which debunks the entire point of your post.
Don't push your concept of heroes onto other people's. Even with none of my heroes that ever kill, I can think of several nonlethal variants of said weaponry.
[/ QUOTE ]
You REALLY need to read the CoH back story.
http://www.cityofheroes.com/gameinfo/paragon_city.html
Pay close attention to the part about "Citizen Crime Fighting Act". Did you ever wonder why the 1st thing you do in Paragon City is go to City Hall? Trust me, if your character killed someone (or even cut off their hands) you would find yourself bent over, looking for the soap in the Zig faster then you can say "Chris Jenkins, attorney at law". -

I think the point of this post is enough with the weapons already. I hope that after DB, new powersets will be more mainstream heroish.

that Night Stick one was downright offensive.

Imagine how offended you would be if they gave the LAPD dual blades -
[ QUOTE ]
Seriously, you've lost, please just back out peacefully. Duel blades are here because we voted for them with streetfighting, willpower and shields. The Devs made a good call by giving us a hard powerset to animate and an easy one instead of 2 easy ones and two hard ones. If you don't like the set, don't use them, no one's forcing you to.
[/ QUOTE ]
The vote again. Well lets be clear on this. "The people" voted for shields, yet we aren't going to get them, so Cryptic has already set the precedent . Just because "the people" voted for something doesn't take away Statesman's veto power.
States, l am calling you out again! DON'T GIVE IN TO THE DARK SIDE!!!! Do the RIGHT thing! -
So how do I arrest someone with a pair of knives? Stab them till they are almost dead? It seems to me that for every comic book "hero" who kills people, there are 100 who refuse to take a life. Yet CoH is filled with gun toting, axe murdering "heroes".
The name of the game is "City of Heroes" people. Not, "City of Dark Heroes", "City of Murdering Heroes" or "City of Anti-Heroes". Hell, they already made City of Villains for you folks, now hows about something for the good guys.
Here's a quick list of powers that would be much more in keeping with the "good guys don't kill theme" that so much of the comic book mythos is based on.
1. Bo staffs. Not some Gandalf wizard staff, im talking Bruce Lee.
2. Night Stick. Nothing says justice like a good old fashioned LAPD beat down.
3. Nun-chucks. Non lethal, and super cool.
4. Hockey Stick. Some one mentioned that Leonardo used dual blades, well Casey Jones used a slap shot to fight crime.
5. 2x4. From Walking Tall to Hacksaw Jim Dugan, 5 feet of lumber has been a staple of justice for years.
6. Parking Meter. If I had a dime for every time someone got hit with a parking meter in comic book fights, I'd be a rich man.
7. Baseball Bat. Good old Louisville slugger, not the aluminum ones.
8. Brass Knuckles. Take THAT Skull boy!
9. Chain. Not the spawn style hooks, just a 5' long section of the home depot special.
10. Whip. Oh yeah, not just for cat-girls anymore! Hey Zorro used one too. -

Current Thunderbird
Nightcrawler
Deadpool
[/ QUOTE ]
Nightcrawler: uses his fists and feet
Thunderbird: dead
Deadpool: who? some noob? Oh, the guy with the machine gun
But there are more heroes that use machine guns then dual blades.. -
... like I need a hole in the head.
Ever since dual blades was "announced" I've been racking my brain trying to think of heroes that would use a pair of knives to arrest criminals. I Haven't thought of one. Looking back on all those comic books that I collected as a kid, the only one I can remember using a blade of any kind was the Black Knight (Sorry Electra uses two Sais... they don't have blades).
The way I see it, there are more comic book heroes that use boomerangs, then those that use broad swords, katanas, battle axes, maces, and dual blades combined.
"But Tarmac, the people voted for dual blades!"
So what. The people voted for Nixon (twice). The people voted to kill Socrates. The people said O.J. was innocent. In other words, the people are morons.
This power set has NOTHING to do with comic book heroes. Sure it's fine in WoW, EQ, and LotR, but those are sword and sorcery games, this is a super hero game. States, do the right thing, suck it up and make dual blades a CoV only power. Come up with a power for heroes that fits the bill and makes use feel like the good guys. Not some knife wielding, blood thirsty villain.
