Doubting I'll have left over slots. At this point in my build I can take Shadow Maul (Late. Like 44 or so) or grab Taunt for its utility and save a few slots.
-
I had meant to also ask about Taunt. Never used it before, but I understand it has its uses in PvP by closing some distance. Should I consider it as a filler? Or aim to include it?
-
I've looked at a lot of current "PvP" builds. I've noticed A LOT that DON'T slot their accuracy based abilities. Averaging 50% or so, base. Why is this?
-
How about Soul Drain? Forgettable for PvP?
-
Definitely helps, Commando and Merc! I mostly zone. But may try my hand at Arena, as mentioned. Starting to get a hold on a full respec now.
Icicles is nothing to me.
If I do go with Earth then I would most certainly drop Embrace. I didn't take everything since I don't mess with cones so much. Same with Maul. (may try the spec at some point though)
I'd hate to give up Aid Self as it's mitigated so much for me thus far. Though I AM considering the fighting pool.
Sticking with Fitness as I knew I would.
Sticking to my Hasten "guns".
Whats your opinions on EA vs DC? Both have appeal. EA's recharge and +Def. (though situational) And DC's cheap End. and higher +End. -
I don't want folks to misunderstand my post. I have had this character for some time and it's become one of my favorites to play. I'm looking for insight, and opinions, for ways to increase it's effectiveness. What to take. Or what not to take etc.
I appreciate your opinion. But I know what the effective classes/builds are. I'm over trying to please the game. And ready to please myself. It's build to compete or build to enjoy while accepting the shortcomings. Spent too much time building characters to compete.
Still working on the build. Thinking of dropping Hasten for Tough/Weave. And will have to look into recharging more. And Ice Mastery for the hold. -
He's already 44 as I've had him for quite some time. Secondary IS Dark. I'm not looking to kill so much. I simply like the survivability. Though I KNOW it's not the MOST resistant to death. Especially when coupled with PvP's downfalls. My play-style is a bit more....eccentric I suppose. I try builds that both abilities compliment maybe one aspect of a set.
PvP has always been zone. Never tried the Arena. Though I'm not opposed to trying it even with this toon. I have an Ice/SS and did well with him. But was meant for a more damaging build. I favor what seems it WONT do well. I'm not let down if the build fails horribly. And I enjoy going against the fray.
......Just thought about giving up Hasten for Tough/Weave. But I LOVE Hasten to get my heals up. Perhaps Fighting would benefit the build more? Thoughts?
I've just realized the endurance cost of EA vs. Consumption. And that DC returns more end. Downfall being its recharge.
......Not AS interested in the Energy Epic as I've read some patch notes/numbers. But not disregarding it. -
Have played, and enjoyed, my Ice Tank since its introduction. I recently re-opened my account and am looking to make some new changes. Most specifically the new (to me) Epic Pools. I'm considering "Energy Mastery" as it has 2 play-style appealing abilities to me. Focused Acc and Physical Protection. I wanted to know if it was possible to rely on Physical Protection's recovery in place of Stamina when slotted? This could give me the opportunity to delve into the Fighting pool for Tough/Weave.
I'm assuming it wont be on account of all the toggles in the build. IF NOT, I may still be interested in taking it and, perhaps, dropping EA. Thoughts?
As of now I have Aid Self rather than the Fighting Pool. In the past I found it more beneficial, to me of course, to have a 600hp+ "on-the-fly" heal. Which I figured could mitigate more damage than Tough/Weave with a successful use. Thoughts?
MUCH Appreciated! -
I considered shiver at first to really be able to beat down recharges.
Plenty of end. regen no doubt.
Earth was the only other option i considered. May just go with shiver to keep the theme if it comes to a draw. But I hear earth simply compliments Tanks themselves more. -
Was in game at the time as a Brute :OP But yeah, I am at the time to choose Epics for him. I built using DM to work the -tohit into the defense of Ice. Playing around with the idea, whether PvP practical or not, it sounded fun and have enjoyed the build immensely. I still build with PvP in mind though, so I thought I'd ask.
-
Which has yielded the better dmg dealer? looking to choose only one or the other.
-
Was leaning toward Focus due to its single target aspect. But the 15% chance for crit/dbl dmg (I forget) sounded differently appealing.
-
Playing around with claws since I never have before. Undecided on a secondary. Not putting a ton of effort into it till I play with the toon some. My question is choosing Focus or Eviscerate. Any opinions on these 2? I usually go for the single target powers (duel style) as the cones are usually end heavy and meant for multiples. Whats the word?
-
I still find some toggles worth using as a detterent. Not really looking to "build" for de-stealthing. Though soft caps are a consideration, most aoe toggles i've played with have resulted in more frequent poppings than without. That, im sure, is arguable. I will already be taking Havoc Punch but wont be taking Charged Brawl since I have to place slots effectivley still. I already have a Psi/Em'r which is why I'm giving lectric a shot. At this point its the only blaster build that appeals to me given my taste for blasters and the in-game time i've spent. It's about interest to me at this point. Plus I have the respecs to tweak.
-
Field has a 20ft range and popping them before they get in for the kill is kinda the idea/hope
-
Once again, folks.....this will be a lvl 30 build. TF and BR are NOT an option.
I'm far from a noob. Just so happens I was in original beta. In my time i have given near everything a chance. This includes nrg. I don't, however, do much with Blasters. I enjoy Thrust as much as the next /nrg. Although Im looking for some insight on Thunder Strike and Clap as possible comparable alternatives. "Most" characters I end up toe-to-toe with are going to have KB protections of sorts anyhow. Laying a short, but far more damaging, hold is suffice to me. And as I have mentioned, I DO enjoy a chance at uncovering stalks ie Lightning Field. -
Not looking to TS or Clap for dmg. Just a defensive/filler option. Whichever of the 2 works best. Also, TF is post 30. As far as Lightning Field goes; I rarely get mezzed unless my attacker is a mezzer. Never have I been mezzed before a trigger happy AS'r pops. So not terribly worried about that scenario. No doubt I will be mezzed THEN AS'd, but I'm looking to avoid some AS's while out of combat or my attacker IS an AS'r.

Thanks for the replies. I'm preparing myself for plenty of gasps perhaps....but I've decided to go against my usual ways. I tend to crunch numbers and compliment primary's to secondaries in the best possible ways etc. I don't have what it takes to stay on the level train in this game (which now belongs mostly to my villainous gf) So I build for PvP fun at 30. It looks as if the reasons for pushing EM over others is the Boost options. The more important, it seems, being post 30. And BP having no real adequate uses. Especially pre-30. So I have decided to go.......Electric (winces). NOT for -end mind you.
If there is one thing I hate most, personaly, it's being AS'd with no chance in heck of dishing it back out before I drop to my knees. I always look for some sort of "AS defense" in my builds. Wether I drop or not, I'd much rather see it coming. So LF edged out Energy for me in the end. I've always hoped a build would end up having Electric as a possibility to me. Electric is on par with Energy in dmg. More when I consider how much I would use Fence over Thrust. Endurance is worse with Electric and no conservation. And both have the high dmg melee.
My question now is a choice between 2; does Thunder Clap have its place in PvP at the moment? I would most likely only slot for Acc. Or Thunder Strike? Though it too would only be Acc enhanced. An AoE kb/disorient sounds better than a single target kb (Thrust). Of the 2 Im looking for the defensive capabilities. TS's dmg would be a bonus. But would take Clap if it proves to be the better defensive option.
Having fun with the character so far. So I will have to preach the "play what you enjoy the most" line. At least for now.....till I hit 30 and get planted like a carrot. -
I see what your saying, now. So dmg type aside...what gives EM the opinionated edge over Mental for my build?
-
Guess I should have paid better attention to patch notes I suppose. But if dmg type doesn't matter, how does the resistance to those types matter? For instance; if I wanted to build a DA tank to resist psi dmg, that wouldn't really matter?
-
Guess I'm picturing the -res+mostly un-resisted Psi damage as a finisher.
-
So why EM over Mental? Mentals added damage capabilities sound like a 1 2 combo to me.
