  1. Yup sure can, as long as you're around a tailor or other NPC. I was thinking of streamlining it. I dunno it was a brainstorm.

    - Some more things to use reward merits on. It seems as a premium, or free player you are very limited on stuff from a reward NPC. At least if you haven't earned the right to use inventions yet.

    - A purchasable power(limited usage) that grants another player ViP access for a day, or a short time. Possibly for even 1 mission or TF, or incarnate trial. Perhaps need to be a VIP to purchase it. Again brain storming ideas.

  2. - A playable TF much like the terravolta respec trial, for earning a short term Inventions license (players can still buy invention license out of pure convenience, and has longer duration)(Perhaps for premium tier only?)

    - Ability to preview, costume pieces, auras, and etc from the shop prior to buying. (not really a returning player thing, I think it would just be cool)

    - A playable TF or mission (solo, or team) that allows you to use your Inventions for only that TF/mission and only while in it. With a limit on runs per day

This is something that I think should be done. No set bonuses/globals/procs and you can't slot new IOs but let premium players at least use their existing IOs as basic enhancements.
I do agree, as I added it as a suggestion. However I do feel/fear (as i re-read what I have posted in my title "and still be profitable") that it may be more cost intensive to do with the current tech in game. But what do I know I'm just a player...

    - Current ViP subscribers, are warned when creating new character that will be restricted upon choosing a restricted powerset. (It's been awhile since I've played and VIP'd maybe its there, but I do not specifically remember one. If it is, ignore this suggestion)
  4. First off I want to plainly put in text this, is not an argument or discussion. It's simply suggestions that I feel would help the returning player deal with the limitations of certain Freedom Features. So please lets not argue if you have suggestions, add them if not don't. Please embolden your suggestions. and color them yellow.

    - Returning players, players that have been gone for a certain length of time. Possibly over 1000 days upon logging in are emailed an invention license (30days) (Character exclusive)

    - Global drops, free and premium players receive invention and salvage drops (Would help me personally enjoy the game as a fremium more).

    - Ability to earn a short term (7 days or less) invention license via reward merits.

    - Global invention access, available to everyone (not exactly profitable, but equal).

    - Global invention restrictions, you either VIP, or purchase a license period. There is no Perma. (equal and profitable)

    - Current IO's revert to SO values, avoiding the need to respec.

    - Returning players, receive a free respec. So they can go ahead and rebuild to SO's. Without having to use a secondary build. without having to pay inf or money for a respec. (it does take a few times to get a build right even if using a secondary build slot, unless you use a tool like mids)

    - Valid, and noticeable warnings at character selection, "This characters seems to be using IO's, your account standing restricts the use of Inventions"

Personal notes to the community, yes I did have a mental blowout a few days ago. Which made me re-think my gaming, I may or may not have a problem with gaming addiction. I'll at least acknowledge there is a problem, not related to the game city of heroes freedom. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this or not due to pure embarrassment, because I have "raged" that I wanted to quit, or have made the impression that I was done. There is something in City of Heroes that keeps me wanting to come back. Maybe because its free, maybe because it could be a good game, and yes maybe I have a problem being addicted to it.

But while playing or even thinking of playing I have, negative feelings, and or issues that keep coming back as well (even while paying a VIP sub). It's an internal confliction I get,
and have not ever experienced until returning back to city of heroes. Perhaps it was there all along, and only revealed itself after my setback with restrictions of the current game. I'm not sure. I can say that I have played other free games with restrictions and not had that problem. But this is the first game that I had used to have to pay for that added a free to play feature. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENPk_...eature=related
    (This is open to discussion)
  5. What I am asking is not that technical, or hard a task to achieve. I myself have accurately removed data from a database. If they can't do it accurately, then they should not be in the business they are in.

The account(s) are mine, not theirs. If I so wish to have them removed. Then THEY should do so. period.

I do thank everyone for their suggestions.

This game is actually one of the safest games to play because it is broken up into separate missions and it doesn't trap you into feeling like you need to stay in teams all day.
It's not just this game that I am seeking to remove my accounts from. Yes, I do sit at my desk too many hours, I do have health issues such as my wrists, from playing. Plus other anger management issues, the list goes on.

I just love how game companies, make it all to easy to sign up and start playing, but the moment you get hooked, and the player themselves actually see's their habits as a problem. They are reluctant, or do not build in the options to do such a task. I hardly believe they do not have the power to remove accounts. I am seeking other means to go about dealing with this problem. Having them removed is just one goal of mine.

I also disagree with your opinion about it being the "not the worst addiction to have" as it is a psychological addiction. Plus it's considered socially acceptable, it seems alot of people see games, as an ok thing to do.

"Addiction is one of the most costly public health problems in the United States. It is a progressive syndrome, which means that it increases in severity over time unless it is treated." -http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com

"Social learning is considered the most important single factor in addiction. It includes patterns of use in the addict's family or subculture, peer pressure, and advertising or media influence." -http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com
  7. There is also an addiction to the game, so When i feel the fix I would try to install th egame again, which I already have done so many times.

Not not too concerned about the forum account, as I am my game account. But having both either removed or locked, will help me out greatly.

It's bad enough I need to walk by a brothers pc while he is playing, and have it there. There is lots of temptation, I just need to not have my accounts anymore, period. It's funny how its such a hard task to achieve. As support seems reluctant to do it.

"To maintain the continuity and accuracy of the user database, NCsoft master accounts and game accounts cannot be deleted once created."

I counter with "To maintain the continuity of my emotional and physical health! I respectfully request my game accounts removed!"
  8. Like I said health and well being. I do not have the self control required to not just log in to do so. Forums accounts are tied to game accounts, so I'm sure anyone can do the math. I do not have the self control to not log in and play. When I should be doing other things. I get so worked up now it's unhealthy. This is not a ploy or joke, but i physically break my possessions, because I get so worked up over things. I need counseling, or some other form of intervention. Locking, and or deleting out my game account, and forums account is actually the best thing that could happen to me.

Now especially that the game is free, it's just that much harder to not log in. I'm not a well spoken person. Sorry if this is all jumbled with emotion or bad grammer.

so, I respectfully request to have my forum account removed. For my own health and well being.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Guess what? Nothing's stopping you or anyone else from spending the same amount of money those particular long term players did and earning the same "entitlement" they have.

Oh but wait, you newer players don't have to spend the same amount of money those Vets did. If anyone got screwed on this deal it's the long term Vets.

The vets you are referring to (the ones with 66+ months) spent $990 dollars on the game to get permanent access to IO's. That's 27 Paragon Rewards

The most a new player has to spend is $345 dollars in Paragon Points to be given 27 Paragon Rewards. We get 1 Paragon Reward for every 1200 Paragon Points we purchase, and when we buy in bulk we get bonus points.

$100 dollars gets you 8 Paragon rewards, so $300 gets you 24 tokens, and another $45 gets you three more tokens with points left over to go towards your next token.

And a returning player who already has earned Paragon Rewards from his previous sub will still pay less to unlock IO access than a 66+ month vet did because it's cheaper to get Paragon Rewards by buying them in bulk than it is subbing, and you get the rewards immediately instead of waiting months/years.

So basically you are complaining that the devs are charging you less money to unlock IO access than they charged their 66+ month vets.

Yeah there's not a hint of you having entitlement issues in your argument.
Yup, I do have entitlement issues. Nuff said. That's why I removed my post before you or anyone tried to counter it. But thank you for bringing it back up.
  11. Imagine for a moment, a fast food restaurant. This restaurant is a business (let's just get this out of the way), It's just like any other place. It's got some costs to cover no matter who walks in those doors. They have a very creative feature. Create your own (named) signature burger. For a time to get inside you had to be a member and pay a monthly cost.

Recently it's had a re-grand opening, they have dropped the cover charge. Now anyone can get inside for free, and anyone can create a signature burger for free.

An old customer, is in awe. "Wow I can get my signature burger for free!" he says as he rushes down to the shop in haste. When he gets there he see's the place is packed with customers. All enjoying their own different versions of their burgers, his mouth starts to water. After waiting in line, he goes to order his old super beef mega classic, which he has grown to love. The teller pauses for a moment and then says "I'm sorry sir since your burger was topped with lettuce cheese, and pickles you will have to pay $5" The old customer looks around at everyone enjoying their own free burgers, and says to the teller "But why, they all get their own free burger!?"

Now I just want to stop there. I'm saying this only because you can see how it may give someone a whole host of negative feelings and or reactions (or at least some confusion) about this place even if they loved it.

The teller replies "Yes sir those free burgers are limited to only the free toppings."

So the old time customer goes ahead and re-create his super beef mega classic with the free toppings. While eating it, he thinks to himself "hmmm It doesn't taste the same anymore" But hey he doesn't have to pay monthly and he can get a dumbed down version of his favorite burger for free. If he's got the money he can order his burger the way he likes it cheaper then before. Or even pay a monthly fee like before and get a wifi password. To surf while eating. So all in all it's win win. But there is still that initial, whoa wait a minute! It takes some time to get over the fact that yes if you want your old time burger you will have to pay.

So sorry guys if I have come off emotional, because yes I was and still kinda am. Which is why I said before I like this game at an unhealthy level now, because when I play I still get those feelings of man, I gotta dumb down my hero, and start to get all upset. So I stop playing get get out/away from it. It's something I have to deal with personally, its not paragon's fault. I agree they all need to eat too.

That just doesn't seem like much encouragement, I could of easily played without any of those. The only thing that is questionable (because I already have knowledge of them) is the drops.

You're right it is very complex, but I'm also positive if they would at least drop for them. Once they say what extra bonus's they can get using them. It would be a great motivator. It does take time to learn them, that's also a kind of guarantee of play time.

So that argument doesn't hold water.
It doesn't? Don't you think more would buy a license if they dropped? Seems like they aren't really using inventions as the hook to get free players to Sub/Spend money then are they? Wasnt that the carrot everyone was talking about?

Plus there are a few sets that free players can (I think) slot ATO's and the event set. So my question is if the invention system is such a HUGE feature to make money. Why isn't it targeted at free players as well? When we all know that when they made it available to play for free. It was to attract new players, and compete to make more money with other free to play games.

It's like they just want returning players to feel pressured into buying them, because we knew about it and had characters already set up for it. I know it's only our choice to spend the money to do so. But free players don't even know about the system until they do their first TF, earn merits (if they can) then eventually wonder onto a merit NPC and see the recipes. Or go and check out a ww, and I'm sure can go by unnoticed. I'm not even sure if they can check out the market? Maybe it's just they can't do any transactions.

To you it may sound like I am contradicting myself, but there are a number of ways to play the game without actually playing. Such as the character creator, and just creating builds in Mids. Since the change to freedom I was forced to play differently, when im not VIP'ing. All of them fun.

Yes my posts are howls of agony.

You don't think some of the new free players will wonder hmmm what are these things that drop used for? Oh cool inventions. Oh oh really just a few bucks to try out inventions? Hmmm WOW sets rock! I'll VIP tyvm.

    and

Hmmm reward merits? What can I use them for? Oh look a NPC! Ooooh Inventions! Costumes! Auras! Temp Powers! Whatever they wanna throw in there! *Gasp* a 1-day invention license, wow I can try it out for a short time before deciding to buy a 30 day one! *CHOKE* SETS ROCK! I'll VIP!
  17. Well, if we cant get enough support together. To get them to review the invention system access. At least can we get support together to get them to review having salvage and recipes drop. I do like to feel rewarded for my efforts.

And perhaps get support together to have them review reward merit NPC, I feel there is a lack of what you can get with them, even as a VIP.

Forbin_Project, you cant be more wrong. We are 2 completely different people.

I do feel pretty upset that I felt forced to rebuild my character, and or change the way I play the game (by alting out with other characters). Unless I start to pay. Which I do, have, and will do.

Please people do not throw out the whole "it's only 2 dollars joke" some of us have different situations in life. Please do not tell me just pay them because I totally do when I can. I enjoy the game. But recently after the change to freedom I realized, I enjoy it at an unhealthy level. Fun is addicting period. Yes, I take things to heart and get angered easily if you don't know by now.

Well paragon I can be cruel too! There is still plenty of content to get people to spend their hard earned money (when they are earning it).

Only because they made it that way for freedom! It should not be period. If anyone wants my honest opinion...Anyone that subbed for ANY length of time (before freedom), or used a retail code should have perma access to inventions.

Because we the players have shown some interest in the game and helped bring the game to its current state in some form or another. All this before it became a free game (excuse me a hybrid free to play / perma trial). Let the new players that never had that kind of glory deal with the restrictions of the invention system, as they will not miss it (you cant miss what you never had). So to them it's not like it's making the game feel negative or less of a game. To them it's free!

I'm not really sure what you are trying to say there!?

Totally cant justify the reason of spending $2 for just 30 days of the Invention system, when you can spend just a little more to get VIP, and get points, etc. Which I do when I have it. I don't even have the little $2 even if I did, I think I would rather eat then play a game. Speaking of which, I need to scrap something together, other then yesterdays 2 slices of BREAD that wasn't very filling!

I'm not so sure I can agree with the way they chose to set the bar so high for invention access. I'm talking about the paragon rewards. In total I'm currently up to 18 months, that puts me one meter above half on the scale. I'm an old time player playing since the open beta with a brother who plays far more often then I. He's been more financially stable, so he stayed subbed longer. I say this only to explain why I haven't subbed longer. But being that I payed for the client, (was given CoV so I will not bring that one up), and GR.

Let me add all this up:
City of Heroes (with month of time) $34.95
Going Rouge (with month of time) Not factored it was on sale like $9.99 or something.
City of villains (with month of time) A Gift Not factored
15 months of gameplay (most of them cards which had cost more) $224.85 @$14.99 per month
    Others (Perks) Not Factored
    --------------
$259.80 - I just don't understand how that doesn't give me the right to earn an invention license in game.

The fact is that I was a player back then, I do feel cheated out on some content on which is now a CORE (In my opinion, because of how I play the game, and on which character I spent the majority of my time playing) component. When the switch happened.

I guess I could always talk him into letting me play on his account. NVM this discussion! Peace!

Its a self-defeating argument to claim its just a very tiny part of the game: if it is, it should be ignorable. Yeah I can agree with that..

What I do not agree with is that how we all are not on equal playing fields in terms of power. There's incarnate, and the invention system. I always thought that instead of limiting power there should be just areas or playable content, that paying customers can access. I can understand the incarnate, because its endgame content. But the invention system?

I can go on about this forever, its not like we are asking for everything free just a small very very enjoyable crumb off the cake.

The game is still fun, don't get me wrong but it could be so much better for everyone.

  24. Since this post has been getting read. I want to try to get my thoughts out about the current game state, and why I feel the invention system should be viable to all players in some form or another.

First off, I need to publicly apologize to the support team. A few posts I made awhile back via support system contained ... well some not so nice things. I deeply express my sincere apologies.

Okay, now that I got that out of the way!

We all know the game is balanced around SO's. It's completely "playable" and "enjoyable" without them. We all, well some of us remember the golden ages .. when that's all there was. I want to talk about the implementation of this system in the beginning. Why was it created? What goals were thought of when it was born? If the game was just fine, so "enjoyable" and "playable" what was the purpose of it? Why not just create new missions, trials and other things. If this system was so completely optional then why create it at all. I'm having trouble understanding this. I know this game isn't about min/max-ing' or is it? We all strive to be the best we can be, and unlock are full potential (the only exception is those role play players out there). Even with SO builds you build your character to be the best or what works best. Its because its fun to be victorious, if you didn't build a character that way you would not be having fun. Sure it can be fun eating dirt with your buddies. However, sooner or later you will be wanting to get past that impossible TF or mission.

I believe since it's implementation the invention system has become more then just an optional part of the game. Sure you may not need it, but it will be that much harder to compete with your group. Is it fun to get the arrests/kills? Or just watching your team do it for you? If you play support, it may not effect you as much. I know I know we all prosper from completions as a group. But is it fun to feel as if your not contributing? It's like teaming with a fully incarnate character. You both run into the mob to start doing what makes this game so fun and BAM! Everything was wasted before you got your two skills off. (I'm only using incarnate as an extreme comparison, its not that bad but you do notice it.) So okay fine! Decide to not team with people who have set bonus's. We just split our options of teaming nearly in half, more or less. Not too mention you have to do all the forming for every team you decide to play in, and actually check their info to see if they have IO's.

Another point I want to make is the ... what I like to call the "Gambling Addiction". Sooner or later you will have an archetype that you like to play more then others. This will become your "main" character. (I will just come out and say it. I like to farm!) This character will supply your influence/infamy for other characters, making the burden of new character creation a little easier. The reason why I like to play the "farm" so much. Is that I feel its like playing a slot machine, (Surely slots are not random, but the reward drops are) every mob I jumped into was like a pull of that handle. I couldn't but think to my self whats gonna drop? After awhile it gets very very addicting, which maybe it's why I feel so deeply on this issue. It wasn't that I had to farm or even cared how much "inf" I made. To me it was like a drug. Yo just get hooked, as I am writing this I am hearing the Dinging of reward drops in my head. After the months and months ... and months of playing the game I just now got into alt creation.

Anyways, I got out what was brewing inside this crazy brain of mine. I just wish some day they will add the invention license back into the LIVE server Merit NPC's so that everyone can experience the fun I had while playing the game. In all honestly It's what kept me coming back ... Even after I swore up and down I would not play again after they removed the item from the vendors. I will say I will VIP again sooner or later when I can. But it would be nice to feel the "super" in super hero again without just feeling average. Maybe its just I know what I am missing I don't know.

Everyone have a great day and GLHF out there!
