Wow, I didn't expect unanamous agreement, but I also didn't expect an avalanche of "this idea sucks" either, lol.
I appreciate all the points made (for those that made them) and I can see I'm by far in the minority here (in fact I appear to be the entire minority here). All I know is that I've played this game for many years, and have often logged in when it was hard to get a team unless you made one yourself, which while sometimes easy, is also sometimes a pain in the butt... I've also been on plenty of teams where the leader goes and nobody wants the star.
I think you hard core players might, if you stretch, think about the tons of more casual players out there who don't approach the game quite like you might... for example, lots of players could care less about badges... it is a nice part of the game, but not one that all of the community focuses on.
People appreciate the work a good leader does and if one person is carrying the extra load, I say they deserve some kind of extra bonus that everyone would be interested in.
Several people mentioned that as a team grows everyone gets an xp bonus... that is excellent, but it really doesn't address the point of the extra effort a team leader puts in above and beyond what the team members do.
On a side note, several people complained about possible spam... I'm not sure you fix spam by removing any player incentives that might make someone spam people... that just seems backwards.
Some people complained that a leader who only did it for the xp bonus might not be a good leader... sure but then people would leave the team in favor of a better leader... that happens normally now anyway.
Some people said the team members might not think it was fair for someone else to get more than they did... well get used to how the world works... life is not a welfare system... those who make extra efforts deserve extra rewards... if team members want that reward, they can form their own teams... there will still be plenty of people who would like to join.
Currently there are always more people looking for teams than forming them... if it were the other way around, perhaps some of these criticisms would seem more valid, but it just simply isn't the case.
At any rate, before you guys all rain hell down on my head, keep in mind that I've already admitted I seem to be by far the minority opinion in these posts... perhaps because all the many many players this would benefit are also the same type that never bother to post in these formums... the whole thing is by nature biased towards a certain subset of players.
Cheers!
