Oh, and Kimmie, season 2 of JLU is WAY better!

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is indeed impressing me. Thank y'all again for pointing me to JLU! I had not kept up since the DC animations left WB for Cartoon (I lack cable TV).
  2. I hope so too. Just in case, I took Kara out for a spin on Live to enjoy her while I can. I love her (and she looks NOTHING like Kara Zor-El/In-Zee on purpose).

So far on Test, it looks like I should respec out Unyeilding and work to get Acrobatics. Sad but true, 5% resists with a 12.5% -Def is a liability. Even tough and weave are now tempting. Feels like I am making a fire tanker without the damage.

I almost feel like respecing out most of my primaries to get nearly all of my secondaries (but no Taunt), as the Invulnerable set is currently so weak on Test that I'd be better off trying to play tough scrapper. Kara so far can still solo on Test, but damn she has to be careful when grouped.

Because of that, I rolled a Sonic/EM blaster on Test. Might focus on DM/Regen scrapper just so I can use DM to counter -regen.

Damn tempted to not renew this November. Not sure I can trust the Devs. Will still give CoV a shot, but the Devs have shaken my faith in them.
  3. I "found" the JLU eps, and Oh My Loki it rocks! Kara is awesome! Poor Tea, she had such potential but the government is just evil. Shame Supes supports it and Hamilton now won't trust the JLU. Damn shame, I rather liked Hamilton in the past.

I loved Epilogue! It was a great ending to Batman Beyond. Long overdue.

And I loved the end of JLU season 1 when we see older Virgil and John's son! Nice touch!

Thank you very much folks for turning me onto the JLU!
  4. I agree Tetsuhara. It does get harder and harder to trump the players, but a good GM (me!!!) should be ready to expand beyond that. Once Dr. Destroyer is no longer a threat to any one character, it is time to leave Earth for the rest of the Universe and the Multiverse.

What the Devs don't seem to understand is that we love this game as it is. If they just added in I5's changes up to and excluding the nerfs to holds/taunts/defense, it would be the greatest expansion ever! If they want to add content for the high end, make up raid dungeons like WoW does. It delays the inevitable. Or raise the cap a bit. Just don't forget some of us have Multiple Alt Syndrome and will likely never reach level 50. I want to play a Kheldian Peacebringer, and my highest character is only level 27. I don't see me unlocking that option anytime soon, but I currently can within another year.

With the current way I5 is implimented, I will never reach level 50 at all. The Kheldian dwarf can outtank my Invulnerable Tanker who now caps at 30% damage vice 90% to most forms of attack. Kara now takes up to 3 times the damage from the same foes depending on their attack forms. That isn't Invulnerable, that is gimped.

For the fun factor, the game had it, and still does on Live. People who hit 50 and give up on Alts and get bored are not going to come back. Making it harder for the rest of your fans to reach 50 is not going to make us happy. My goal is not just to reach 50 to unlock the Kheldians, that is just one nice perk. My goal is to see and do everything in this game at least 7. one per AT. Currently this game looks worth doing that. World of Warcraft stopped being that due to PVP encroachment and emphasis on group dungeon play. My biggest praise for this game started with the fact the Devs swore they would never force PVP in CoH. Now that the I5 changes gut the game IMHO, I wonder if I can trust the Devs' word on PVP.

I love going into a crowd and being able to take them out one by one. I currently feel tough and powerful, but know I have to take out the foes whose damage output is greatest first. I like feeling tough and that I am making the world a better place. When I die on Heroic as a tanker, I know I bit off more than I could chew but go back at it. I feel Super!

Now once I level Kara more, I want to return to my scrapper (DM/Regen) and blaster (AR/EM) to experience play at them. Once Kara unlocks Kheldians I will roll a PB. If the Devs ever wish to sell an unlock code for Kheldians, I am willing to pay. I am not willing to pay anyone to PL me to 50 to unlock. I need my money and am enjoying this game. IF this game becomes unenjoyable, I won't care to play it anymore at all.

Havok is the #1 reason I came back to CoH. I didn't think this game could be soloed due to bad experiences in my blaster, scrapper, and Invul/Axe tanker builds, and my Defenders and Controllers were not soloing well either in I2. Havok's guides showed me what works, what doesn't, and gave me a means to build my favorite superhero in this game. I build Kara to solo most of the time, to be able to help and assist all who need it, and to have fun. Currently, I am and love it!

But I am not liking the way she plays on I5. It is now harder for me to tank any group as I can no longer take the hits or hold the aggro. When I solo the streets of Croatoa's town, I need to carry greens and keep the cursor over DP against even level mobs. Perhaps some find that fun, but I just want to kick butt and relax. I don't want to find out that 6 slotted Unyeilding filled with +3 SOs in only 10% resistance. Yet now it is.

With Temp Invul and Invinc up, and dropping 6 slot Unyeilding, the numbers only changed by a mere 10%. That is not worth 6 slotting with SOs IMHO. I don't feel super on test. The joy is gutted from the gameplay.

I will go to Test and make a Sonic/EM blaster, but I don't expect it to mesh with my play style. Slow computers like mine work best with tankers who can survive while I wait for the lag to pass.
  5. PVP and adding more "Elites" that I couldn't solo at the same level are what drove me from WoW. Knowing I couldn't solo any dungoen until I was well above the levels it was designed for irked me. Going to Swamp of Sorrows and defending my gnome mage from a NPC guard in the middle of the swamp, only to have a high level Tauren try to kill me since I was now flagged irked me. Going into Stonetalon Valley for the first time from the Barrons on my human paladin, only to have a troll mage try to kill me because I was flagged from fighting NPC guards IRKED ME. Playing a level 10 undead priestess who just learned ressurection and was killed by a level 54 paladin because I tried to ress a corpse outside Crossroads and was flagged when I cast it (Corpses that had released don't show their flag status) REALLY PISSED ME OFF.

I went PVE servers to avoid PVP. Their "honor" system took a hell of a lot of fun out of the game. I couldn't avoid it. Either an NPC would attack and defending myself would flag me PVP, I would buff or heal someone flagged and find myself flagged, or a zerg raid would kill the NPCs I needed to talk to in order to do quests.

Adding in more dungeons and threats requiring massive parties to fight didn't help this solo player. I left WoW, that is money they will no longer receive from me. I came back to here because someone pointed me to this very thread. Seeing Cryptic's Devs pull this nerf really makes me wonder if I should just give up on MMOGs altogether.

I5 so far turns my 350 point tanker into a 150 point one. Any Champion Superhero RPG fan will know what I mean.
  6. Mistake seems unlikely considering the responses flying since the changes to test were made. If it was a mistake, the Devs would have noticed just by looking at the boards Friday and could have made a quick numbers change followed by a reboot. Or at the very least posted that it was a mistake and will be fixed Monday.

No response from the Devs or Moderators, coupled with no change on Test since I5 was added to it, equals deliberate changes in my book.

Yes, we may indeed be overreacting, but a tank who can't tank is useless. I went back on Test earlier and opened Battle Chat to look at the numbers as I took out some Coven witches, Fir Bolgs, and the green furry guys. I wasn't much better than kleenex. I lived, but only because a defender came by and healed me while I fought a mixed group of monsters.

I even dropped unyeilding in when I reduced one group to its last member, and saw little difference.

That sucks hard because Unyeilding is my only 6 slotted power, and it is slotted with level 30 resistance SOs. I am level 27, so that is my max defense from it, and I saw less than a 9% change in damage without Unyeilding.

It isn't too late for the Devs to salvage this situation. Hell, I5's listings read as great up until you reach the point where they mention removing DEF and RES.

If the Devs came on to apologize, roll back the changes to hit frequenecy, defense, and resistances, even remove the excess XP, and left all the good changes in, I would accept the apology and stand down. Hell, I'd turn back into the CoH/CoV cheerleader that I have been for the last few weeks.

It isn't too late to admit this was a bad idea and to repeal the nerfs.

But I won't hold my breath for them to do so. Havok lost his regen scrapper's edge earlier, and now is losing his tank (which is his favorite AT). How could CoH assure him that they will not ever weaken his toons after doing it twice in a row?

Credibility has been lost with I5's results on Test.

Kimmie, wondering if City of Superheroes will come out later, with perhaps 350 point characters with up to 200 points in disadvantages. See www.herogames.com for a better idea of what I mean by points.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
As an FYI I'll no longer be fielding questions. As soon as I finish collecting some badges (TF badges) I will be retiring from CoH.

I want to thank all those who helped put this thread together and thank all those who helped answer questions when I wasn't around.

It has been a real pleasure being a part of this community.

    [/ QUOTE ]

*hugs* It has been a real pleasure to know you Havok! You contributed a great deal, and made this game fun for me again. You will be missed, but I suspect I will be leaving also.

I moderate at www.infidelguy.com so be sure to stop by the boards there and stay in touch. No need to be a stranger.

So far, there has been an evil trend in all of the MMOGs I have played, where the game mechanics are progressively tweaked to force people to party and to make the game less and less enjoyable. I have seen this with EQ, IRO, WoW, and now am seeing it here. In fact, when I left the first time for WoW, it was because I didn't know how to build a character under I2 that could solo.

I am 31, I work for a living, and deal with people who have bad attitudes at work. When I come home, I want to unwind alone. I want to fire up a game like CoH is currently on Live, fly around town, take screenshots, helped people who have questions in the ingame chat, make silly comments, and beat up foes. I do meet people slowly that go on my Friends list, I do not appreciate some Dev deciding to force me to be sociable, but I don't care for the hassle of organizing a team to go do a mission when few are on at 3-7 AM PST.

Working odd hours leads to playing odd hours, and the city's population is sparse. I don't want the hassel of rounding up people who don't match my play style. I don't need more "challenging" gaming changes, I don't use Hero Corps to raise the difficulty, and I don't care to PL. I am here to have fun soloing, and help out the friends I meet over time.

When I see MMOGs gutted for any reason, it feels like I am being betrayed. I pay to experience a game any way I want to, to build my character any way I want to, and I want to solo. I bought CoH to play Supergirl, an Austrian covert agent, and a demonic dominatrix scrapper. For fun I made a version of Pippi Longstocking and Lizzie Borden. I have make Celtic Highlander knockoffs, a modern day swordweilding Valkyrie warrior, and more. I always come back to the first three characters, and love feeling like Supergirl when I play under I4.

I don't care if the current I5 situation on Test is a screwup, a tease, or what the Devs really want. The fact that it was released at all shows me the Devs really don't care about people like me. When my Supergirl falls in seconds to a same level mob of minions, I don't feel like Supergirl at all. I feel like a squishie who lacks Defiance. True, this is City of Heroes, not City of Superheroes, and all I have in this genre, but you need to know something.

Bethesda loves me. Seriously. "Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind" is proof. The fact that they bought the rights to make "Fallout 3" is proof. The fact that they gave the community Dev tools to customize Morrowind greatly increased the game's life. "Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion" is coming and it will NEVER force me to team in a misguided attempt to make me sociable.

Bethesda loves me, this I know, for prior experience has told me so. MMOGs don't want to help me along because they are weak while Bethesda is strong. Yes, Bethesda loves me! Yes Bethesda loves me! Yes, Bethesda loves me! Prior experience has proven it so!

Kimmie, missing Black Isle Studios and glad Bethesda and Bioware are compensating for its loss.
  8. Will have to wait until Sunday to really test this and get numbers. Will copy Kara's current stats over, test her on BP, DE, Freakshow, Tsoo, Family, and Council (her current foes), then repeat with pad of paper ready on test to note the numbers. Since I can handle those foes easily on Live, they should be a good base for testing and reporting on Test.

Not sure what the blast from Fir Bolgs was, so I won't worry about that as much. Not like they exist on Live to test numbers on. Let's see, they added -Regen to remove the Regen scrappers' only defense, and now they are cutting into our taunt effects and defense. Heck, they also are limiting pets. Is this game dropping the super aspect from super hero?

Yes, Sunday and Monday I will run numbers and see the results. Hopefully I will have something to report that the Devs will note and correct.

Kimmie, hoping Devs remember that solo players pay to play this, and we hate being forced to party in order to do our standard missions. That is why I have left WoW.
  9. Just sent Kara Lokison to Croatoa, and saw a small group of Fir Bolgs. This was Kara at level 26, so no real change between her then and now. Group was 26 minions with a 28 LT, no big deal right?

Two Words: Paper Target. That's how I felt when I died in seconds. SECONDS.

I am used to standing in a mob and feeling like a tank. They ripped me to shreds.

I had TI, Invin, and Unyeilding on, and I fell in under 10 seconds at level 26.

I felt like a squishie. Not good.

    Devs, please reconsider. PLEASE!

Tried sonic powers out, not my speed. First two sonic buff/debuffs are not usable on self. Bad. Tried archery sets, but while okay, any other power puts the bow away, making you wait for it to be redrawn.

Issue 5 looks like major suckage at this moment.
  10. Looking over the defense reductions, well, with my limited time and odd playing hours, I will likely NEVER get to play a Kheldian.

I hope this adjustment doesn't bring back the frustration I had when Issue 2 was new and I barely soloed my blaster to 12 before giving up and switching to WoW.

Gee, depending on how bad it is, I might need to just work a hell of a lot of overtime to pay someone to PL one of my toons so I can run around as an alien.
  11. Keeping Hasten more for speeding up recharge on other powers rather than attacks (Recovery Aura should so be an epic choice, but Conserve Power will do), but I am very tempted to drop superspeed from my consideration. Now that I know Whirlwind is useless, I would like to trim a bit more. Shame I can't free up the slots to 6 slot hover and 3 slot fly... Maybe I will consider Recall Friend. Played with Teleport in the arena, and no thanks. Fly or Hover for me.

I would love to see, somehow, JLU... The eps people have listed don't cover Kara, but I am tempted upon reading the episode synopsis... Epilogue looks real tempting!

Air Superiority is my best friend! No, it isn't very damaging. No, it doesn't pulse aggro. Yes it makes the baddies fly and fall! I love amazing people by flying up to a sniping spirit or sky raider skiff, and knocking it down for the melee whalloping to begin!

I love my Kara Lokison! She isn't anywhere close to resembling Kara Zor-El/In-Zee (deliberate), but she is garbed in purple and looks so happy! Will see about posting a pic of her "comfy" clothes and her level 20 costume eventually!

Superlative, your Kara looks great! Kudos darlin!

Kimmie, up for seeing some JLU. The synopsis does indeed greatly cover the last 11 years of the DCU! Nice!
  12. Go for it darlin! @SvZurich global if you have any questions.

Just get to 18, and Invincibility will convice ya! Hell, Unyeilding alone is worth the price of admission. Can count the number of times I was stunned AND knocked down while it was active on 3 fingers!
  13. Prepare to have a blast! Just wowed some people again! Soloed one guy's cape mission (he was lost in Perez, so I just went in and cleared it), then finally met him in person at the arena (his insistance) and smote him thrice!

Then flew off to help a friend and his two teammates with Banished Pantheon. They kept commenting that my HP never dipped. Sure, I took some hits, but I healed them all rapidly and was hard to hit. Invincibility rocks!

They were joking afterwards that I left them one or two so they wouldn't get bored while I cleared the mission. I was glad to give them a hand and give tanks a great name! Didn't use Taunt at all (although I did after the mission to take some Clockwork off a lower level to save him).

I love my build! You will too Matchstick!
  14. *cries* Looked over the episode guides, and I need season 3 eps to see Kara. Demonoid does not have those. *cries*

Kimmie, not paying for cable TV until I can pay just for the channels I will watch (Sci-Fi, Comedy, Cartoon, and whatever else has something worth watching in the future).
  15. So this is NOT abysmal like that Teen Titans rehash?

I do not have cable TV, and only saw a few JLA eps before they went off the conventional channels. A friend had me see "Teen Titans" and it so turned me off. Then I was shown a few eps of JLA and couldn't get into it (first season IIRC).

Damn, now y'all have me wanting to watch this! Wonder if anyone has a torrent.....

Luthor and Cadmus... Related to the Superboy clone using Lex's DNA to be a weapon against Kal as in the comics?
  16. Ugh, no. No "teen" superhero crap cartoons for me. I do miss the Batman/Superman one from a few years back. Loved seeing that Kara in action, but that one had another messed up history. Alura In-Zee is Kara's mother. Well, that cartoon Kara was Kara In-Zee, and was not Kryptonian but from the planet in the next orbit over.

I will admit to collecting the Superman/Batman issues 8-13 where Kara is brought back to the DCU, and 19 which is a nod to an ep of the Batman/Superman cartoon ep with Batgirl and Supergirl. I also just subscribed to the upcoming Supergirl comic.

I was so upset when they killed her off 19 years ago, now I get to play at 31.

Kimmie, who may or may not have downloaded torrents of the first two volumes of Kara's Supergirl comic...
  17. Havok, add me to that list. I left CoH once WoW came out because my blasters and scrappers and axe/invuln tank all sucked at soloing and I was frustrated.

It wasn't until I had seen most of WoW and got annoyed with the higher end dungeon crap and PVP that I returned to this game. I honestly didn't think it could be soloable due to my experiences.

I was in the mood to reread my Hero RPG books for Champions and was flipping through DC Heroes 3E, and wanted to play a Superhero online. Still had my CoH account open, but wasn't sure I could solo.

I was reading the board at www.herogames.com and came across the CoH characters thread. That lead me back to these forums, where I stumbled across your build. As Kara Zor-El is my favorite superhero, your posts were instant gold!

Havok, your build made this game playable for me. You are the reason why I have stayed and actually enjoyed playing again after coming back. Thank you darlin.

Kimmie, loving her Kara knock-off immensely!
  18. Greyhawke, thank you for going through that trouble for me. I will not be taking whirlwind now. I was imagining Supergirl power tricks, and your research shows me that this power is useless for my needs. I mainly solo, and have not had a party with anyone using Kinetics yet. Whirlwind solo looks about as suicidal as Unstoppable without using a timer.

    Thank you!
  19. Ouch! That looks useless for me! Thank you for showing me that other thread, I had no idea how it works, just assumed I pay the cost to activate and all falls into place much like an AOE attack.

Perhaps I will add Unstoppable back in at 49... Recall Friend would be useless to me, I don't need hover and fly together, and Energy Torrent doesn't fit my build. If all Whirlwind is good for is spinning around to bind to costume changes, no thank you.

Looks like Unstoppable returns at 49 and I will play with Whirlwind only on Test.
  20. Kara is level 25 now and ran into an interesting problem when tanking for higher ups... Blasters don't know that they need to hold back on damage so the tank can hold the foe! Blasters, as squishies, don't like to be beat up on. Imagine that...

So I decided to drop Unstoppable from Kara's build at 32 (was told the crash when it wears off nearly guarantees instant death from foes) in favor of Taunt, the power I don't want to take. Why take it? Because squishies don't like to be squished, and do stupid things to ensure they WILL be squished. Never ever peel off foes from your tank. Sure it's fun to show off, IF YOU CAN TAKE IT!

I am also switching the order of Resist Energies and Resist Elements. I am seeing Energy attacks more when I help higher ups, and the elemental attacks aren't scratching me. Seriously considering dropping Resist Elements altogether, but would prefer to have all of my resistances maxed just in case I need them.

Consider this a respec build at 32 or something. Reason being is that when I do respec, I am considering dropping fly for hover with 6 slots for speed. Why? Simple, the 5% Defense from Hover, combined with the 5% Defense from Hasten, will give me a total of 10% resistance to Psionics, the one attack form I cannot resist at all. 10% is better than nothing. You may wish to consider taking one slot from Focused Accuracy and giving it to Hover to max its speed (roughly the same as base Fly speed without the endurance, drift, or suppression). Once I have Focused Accuracy, I intend to change the To Hit buffs in Invincibility into Defense for some truely sickening protection from all! Also, once I have Hover, I won't need Hurdle, so might as well grab Swift to stack with Superspeed.

One great thing about this build as it is, is that you can run all your toggles save for Superspeed, use the endurance hog of Whirlwind, and still regain 0.3 endurance per second at level 50 with +2 enhancements in the slots. Yes, you CAN run Whirlwind and still come out ahead on Endurance! FA will drain 0.59 endurance per second, but even still you can regain 1.14 stamina with it on! You could also drop the To Hit buff in FA and switch to Endurance Reduction to save another 0.09 endurance per second.

LOL Looking over this build, it comes so close to Havok's as to make me wonder why I had to change the order of things. Whirlwind instead of Unstoppable, Focused Accuracy instead of RPD, but otherwise the same. Havok, have I told you lately that you kick [censored]? Well, you do darlin!
  21. A Defender friend of mine invited my level 22 to help her on a council mission. The mobs were levels 24-27 and I have no problem holding aggro with just invincibility and the occassional attack. I got there early to see how well I could take the hits, and was fine, so I practiced rounding the foes up to herd once my friend arrived. I'd run into a group, hit someone in center, jump off to the next group, hit, and move some more.

All I had to do to hold the aggro was stop every once in a while and hit some people in the center of the PBoA taunt radius. I was herding +5s just fine without taunt (Mechmen, Adjunts, etc.). Just focused on taking out the Qs as my energy resistance isn't very high yet.

I will play with taunt on the test server once I earn a respec, but last night I proved it wasn't needed (and that I am much tougher than I had realized!).

    I AM Supergirl!

Kimmie, debating on changing Kara's hair from brown to blond to make her resemble Kara Zor-El more.
  22. I concur. Havok shows us what works, what does not, and most importantly WHY.

He and the others also show when a power caps, whether a power is worth slots, what to slot to get a result you desire, and how to differ a build if you chose to use hasten or not.

My new Scrapper build is actually very close to Havok's Tanker build, for this thread is just that solid. I took what he listed for Invulnerability here, what he said for Spines in another thread, and fused the two to make my Scrapper. His advice is just that good.

Kudos Havok! You and the others who come to give advice as what makes this community great!

Kimmie, off to play Kara Lokisons some more.
  23. All Superstrenght attacks have a built in AoE taunt set a point blank. Just hit someone and you will get their attention as well as that of their friends.

Invincibility (level 18) also has a taunt component. It increases defense based on the number of foes in melee range, increases your accuracy, and taunts.

My advice for pulling is to have a member with range attacks give someone a "love tap" and then punch the foe once they close. If I have a party to back me up, I tend to run straight into an area and wail on the boss. Attacking the boss tends to focus all aggro on you.

LTs also get upset once attacked, and that helps the minions focus on you also. Once you have their attention and all of them attacking you, start picking off any that you wish.

So far, I have not needed taunt. It's a handy power to pull with, but so is a ranged attack followed with falling back around a corner. Ranged foes always close when you round a corner.

If you wish to move things up and change the order, go ahead but keep certain powers for when they first come up. Invincibility at 18 is a must. Unyeilding early on is too. You will want Stamina, Haymaker, and Knockout Blow as early as possible. My tinkering had Air Superiority brought in early, Fly at 14, and delay Resist Energies and Resist Elements until 26 and 30. You do have room to play around a bit.

    Happy hunting!

Kimmie, who is taking Whirlwind instead of Taunt, because I can't see Supergirl talking smack to get attacked, but I can see her spinning around tossing foes!
  24. I love reading experiences like this!

Havok, Kara is 20 now, and she is impressing people already!

Started to do Synapse's TF (eventually had everyone abandon it so I soloed until I hit 20) and had two guys try to give me grief for not having Taunt. Reminded them they had no right to tell me how to play my character, and that I mostly solo and am helping THEM out. I never needed Taunt to hold aggro!

Once they left, I continued on with the defender for a while, explaining to her on how to solo by taking your time to keep endurance up. She was amazed that my health never dipped below 90% IF it dipped at all! After she left, I continued to solo the TF until hitting 20, then abandoned to earn costume and cape.

At 20, I helped out a friend's Defender and she was AMAZED! Same reason, I never seemed to get hurt, and with Stamina I never needed to slow down!

Invincibility is just that good! I took the time to explain my play style and build to her, directed her to find this thread, and she is making her own Invul/SS tanker now!

Thank you darlin, this build really IS making Kara into Supergirl!

Kimmie, damn pleased with her build!
