  1. Yeah, I was wondering about DP.

All I've read about it is that it's weak, and is basically just flashy. Is this not necessarily true? You say "The -res from acid mortar helps offset the perceived lower damage of pistols." But wouldn't that help higher damage sets even more?

At this point it's probably between ice and dark for me. But still...wish I could make a fire defender
  2. Hmm, not quite sure what you mean about ice. Why would ice allow better stacking of AM?

Which of the 3 you mentioned would have the most AoE and ST damage? I assume ST would go to sonic, but AoE is the one I'm mainly concerned with.
  3. I kind of want a traps toon, but for personal reasons, it's a lot easier for me to level on the hero side. Therefore I'd rather avoid starting in Rogue Isles or Praetoria, which leaves only heroes, and specifically a traps defender.

Is there any traps defender combo that can come even close to the overall power of a fire/traps corr? Assuming the answer is no, which one would come closest?

    Flares is AWESOME.
Yep. I had fireblast for like 7 years on my blaster, and recently changed to flares. There's no question, blast was much better before. But now flares is better imo. The extra delay they added for fireblast really killed the power for me.

My flares is slotted with 3 procs, including an apoc and a glad jav. If you think that using a power with 3 procs every 1-2 secs is "worthless", I'm not really sure how to counter that.

Also, I haven't had a single issue with getting by the mobs in this phase. But I do have full invis on all my toons. It's so easy to get it, I don't know why anybody wouldn't, other than concept toons. Super speed is great, and almost everybody has it, since pretty much everybody takes hasten anyway. Add a stealth IO on top of it, and that's it.

    Fire/SS build

My first question...how will you have any end to do anything? Zero end reduction in blazing aura, plus an only two-slotted consume....and pyre mastery on top of it. I would expect you to be able to fight for about 15 seconds before you're out of end.

To start, BA is by far the most endurance heavy toggle in your build, and it should preferably have a full 3 SO's worth of end reduction.

Yep, I believe that's essentially it. They weren't trying to slow people down. The difference between 1 day and 2 days is simply irrelevant. They were just making sure that the trials are the ONLY realistic way of getting the rewards.

And by introducing threads, they made it so that only happened on the 2nd or 3rd day. Not a big difference, if you ask me. So maybe there's a different reason behind it.

I agree that was a mistake. I really loved the WSF feature, but I have done a total of zero TF's since I20 came out. Why waste time on useless "rewards"? It's definitely unfortunate.

At this point, now that the dev clearly explained the system, there are three options.

    1. The devs are blatantly lying to us.
    2. You are unlucky.
    3. The system is broken, and the devs haven't realized it.

I am pretty sure it's not #1. I'm leaning towards #2, but #3 is not completely out of the question either.

Personally I've gotten probably 2-3 VR's, and a few rares. But like most people, it's been mostly uncommons.
  12. Shards are technically not obsolete. You can still get them on non-incarnate content. Threads you can get only on the 2 incarnate trials.

As far as why...I guess they wanted incarnate stuff to ONLY be unlocked/slotted by doing the 2 trials, not in any other way.

But at least the shards can be converted 10:10 to threads, so it's ok.

So as long as you didn't get the 10 thread consolation reward, that means you had the same chance of getting another component as the one you actually got. That sounds fair to me. Personally I have never gotten the 10 thread deal, so I guess the system always realized that I contributed "enough".

Yeah I remember about that. But I can kill pretty fast myself, so I actually did manage to farm for shards at certain points. But yeah, overall the ITF is definitely faster...just can take some time to get a team going sometimes.

I disagree completely. How do you figure we're in the same business? I really couldn't care less about your toon, and I'm sure you feel the same way towards mine. Doesn't mean I want to see you fail, but I'm not going to be crying all night if you do. Likewise, if you get a great reward, it has absolutely no impact on me. We are NOT working for some common goal, like people do in the same business. I'm working on improving my toons, and you're doing the same for yours. If anything, we are directly competing, because whoever "contributes" most gets the better reward.

However, all that said, don't get me wrong. I personally don't and wouldn't screw over others just for a chance at a better reward. But I can't be mad if other people do, given the broken system they are given. I can't be mad at people for simply acting in their best interests.

Yeah that's where I've gotten most of my shards, but I was hoping for something I could do solo. Guess it's just wishful thinking.

    ambush farm?

Well I tried a couple of these tonight. Found one I really like. Pretty amazing stuff...really fun. Thanks again everybody.

Oh by the way.....what if I want to farm for shards? They don't drop in AE, so are there any known suggestions for regular farm missions? I've been using the nemesis one I mentioned.

Yeah, that's what I heard about it. It's fun and really flashy....but not nearly as effective as some other sets.

Then again, dual blades is kinda like that too.

Btw I forgot to mention that if you really do plan on PvP'ing, the mind/therm is absolutely the only one of the 3 that will be viable. The other 2 will be just laughably bad in PvP. That said, PvP shouldn't really be what you base your decision on, since it's laughably bad itself.

Another analogy for you. You have a business that competes directly with another person's business. You steal a client from the other person, therefore making money for yourself while stealing it from your competitor.

Have you "exploited" your fellow human being in this case? The answer is no. You acted in your own best interests, the same thing your competitor would have done if given the chance. This is normal behavior and the basis for capitalism, not something to criticize.

The only solution is communism, where everybody gets the same stuff. While that has been proven to not work in real life, it most definitely does work in video games. The ONLY way to keep people from acting like people is to remove their option of doing so.
  22. I would go with mind/therm or DB/invuln.

Dual pistols is just not that great from what I've read.

People will always do what's best for THEM, not what's best for everybody. When you go to the store to get some item you really want or need, and you find out that there's only one total item left in stock, would you still buy it? Or would you say "Nah, I don't want to screw over everybody else that will want to buy this, so even though I desperatly want it, I will leave it for someone else"?

That's a rhetorical question. Everybody already knows what you, and everybody else would do.

Likewise in this game, people will do what benefits their toon. They might not specifically go out of their way to screw over others, but if their actions do that, they won't care, as long as they're getting what they want themselves. It's basic human nature. Nobody here is Jesus Christ or Mother Theresa.

So I do blame the devs. If you allow a system to be exploited for personal gain, it will be exploited for personal gain....always, without any exceptions.

The system needs to be random, pure and simple. If people use that to leech, so be it. At least it will prevent those people that greatly contribute from being ripped off. I'd rather see the least valuable player getting a good reward for doing nothing....instead of the MVP getting crap even though he's the MVP.

    ambush farm?

Ok so, this is a bit embarrassing, but I've never been on one. I understand they're a certain AE mission type where you get a lot of ambushes, which can be farmed.

I don't really farm much, but I wanted to try these missions just to see how they work....and to test my tank on them. I've been farming a little bit recently for personal goals, and I'm using an Unai Kemen mission with Nemesis automatons. I do very well on it, but I have a feeling that it could go faster with a mission more suited for farming.

So how do I find an ambush farm mission? Are there some mission names that people widely use that I can search for?
