Naked (toon) TF
[/ QUOTE ]
This!
Oh, wait. Toons naked. What about players?
That's all right. Mrs. A and I are running a naked task force later.
Not in the game, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
pics plz! I'm naked pretty much every day this week when I get home, not having a roommate around this week does have at least 1 perk
[/ QUOTE ]I had some old college friends try and convince me all guys do this as soon as theyre home and alone. He pulled me down the hall to another friends and was like "Youve just come home, you're alone, what do you do?" and the instant reply, "I get naked" and then HIS roommate showed up, and they posed him the same question, and got the same reply, almost as quick. I think they set it up >;(

Seriously... First thing that happens when I come home from work... Pants are OFF!!!! -

I went to that once... once... back in 2005. I was ...um... underwhelmed? I was surprised at the size of it. It was smaller than I thought it would be. There really was not much that held my interest there. I have a hard time throwing resources together to attend that again in Philly because I was blown away by DragonCon.
If I were to attend another "con" type of thing it would be DragonCon and/or HeroCon. EVERYONE should go to a DragonCon at least once. -
Heard today in the hallway at work:
"DENNY'S is offering a breakfast special in honor the "octomom," Nadya Suleman. It's eight eggs, no sausage, and the guy in the next booth has to pay for it." -

16 illegals sue Arizona rancher
[/ QUOTE ]
Update on the rancher - illegal immigrant lawsuit
From a UK website
Even though the judge completely dismissed the cases this still happened:
"The rancher was held liable for limited damages involving assault and emotional distress. Two illegal aliens were given $1,000 plus $10,000 in punitive damages each. Two more received $7,500, plus $20,000 in punitive damages each.
All together, the illegals received only $77,804 of the $32 million they requested and Hardy believes that award will be thrown out in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals." -

This is why I don't really read a lot of comics. I don't watch daytime soap operas, either. I can suspend my disbelief for all kinds of crazy things like laser beam eyes and using a move called Head Splitter to "arrest" someone, but I can't cope with evil twins and mothers being raised by their own sons. That just speaks of desperate writers. Next thing you know, someone wakes up in the morning and a "dead" person walks out of the shower to tell her it was all just a crazy dream.
Matt Groening once said that when a TV show adds a new character for new reason other than to try to regain some audience (He specifically named The Great Gazoo, but this includes Cousin Oliver and whatever the name was of the kid Leonardo DiCaprio played on Growing Pains) and not advance the plot, you know the show is going nowhere and he identifies that as the "Jump the Shark" moment. For me it's usually whenever they "kill" someone and have the person come back from the dead. (E.g. Denny on Grey's Anatomy this season. WTF!) Comics bring in new villains and I don't think that's a bad thing. Killing off the main character is what, to me, screams: "We are totally stuck here and desperate for a reset or some way to dig ourselves out of this hole/rut we're in." I guess I can't judge them too harshly, though. It's gotta be hard to come up with something "new and different" when you're working on a franchise that's been around as many decades as these characters have.

I could have SWORN that the proposed changes to Regeneration were changed by *gasp* testing done on the test server.

I gotta say again, though, great post on the datamine skewing.
[/ QUOTE ]
If this behavior is not detectable in datamining then there are some really big problems with the game.
Personally I believe it should be easy to get information of XP gain versus power activations. High XP gain with little to no powers being activated would be a red flag for any type of datamining. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well then its much like cheating. Its the whole cheating/exploit thing, I think this is splitting hairs. Also, as I have mentioned I see less people doing it and hear a lot of people talking about it. It is thought to be a cheap undesirable activity by many. Maybe we should invent a new word for the activity; something between cheating and exploit.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a riot. I've already suggested this several pages ago and made referrence to it with another reply. The Silly AFK XP joke. SAX for short. And the REASON for it was that powerleveling is not cheating. The method of powerleveling you keep using involves an AFK toon and the tram. One can powerlevel with the exact same team makeup you use as your example and NOT be AFK and be following the team around. It is still PLing.
It is not cheating. Maybe you should be more concerned about the developers reaction to this "cheating" as you call it and realize that they don't classify it as cheating and are not taking drastic measures to remove it from the game. Wouldn't you be more concerned about a game that does not remove "cheating" from the game? -
[ QUOTE ]
It is illogical to me how PLing is not a cheat and really my only compliant about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
ARRGH! You did it again. This is the exact statement that is throwing people over the edge! Ok, not really. But this is the statement. I posted earlier about this. You stated an example that showed PLing was not cheating. I posted the message below.
And I'm upset that I didn't get any laughs for the whole SAX thing. Guess I need to work on my standup routine.

Guys its cheating.
NinjaPirate knows what he's talking about. Its clear that the guy has a professional attitude and knowledge base.
To Icarus and the bunch please tell me what is cheating? What more would one have to do? Being afk and still collecting points in a game. If a person is Pling at the station it would be possible for them to be at the supermarket shopping. How is this playing a game?
Its cheating.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then stop saying PLing is cheating. It's possible to PL and not cheat. Yet the blanket statement "PL is cheating" is being stated over and over.
You just qualified it yourself by stating "if the person is PLing at the station..." This means it's possible to PL somewhere else and *gasp* contribute to the team.
The definition issue has been brought up by both "sides." Please stop using the term powerleveling and call it what it is...
Non-contributing team members gaining XP while in relatively safe areas.
The problem is everyone likes simple and descriptive terms. PL doesn't really describe this yet it's being used over and over again. (and yes, it's that definition thing again) I propose a new term for this behavior. Silly AFK XP, for now on please use the term SAX. This in no way should be associated with the wind instrument but clever referals to sex will get bonus points.
Something like... Hey! Check out the lowbie in Bricks SAXing it up!

Actually, how's this: If you are not in aggro range (or some other close range) of a mob, you cannot gain XP from that mob.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think there might be something to this. How about if you are not in SK range it drops the XP. Once it says "you can are no longer being SK'd" kiss the XP good bye. At the very least it would make it more of an inconvenience.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the way it works in game now IF when the sk drops the level range difference is big enough. I know that a lvl 9 toon grouped with a lvl 2 toon will result in NO XP for the lvl 2. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I would alter the mechanics so you do NOT earn ANY XP unless you are in a minimum range of the bad guy you are getting XP from, and thus risk getting defeated by them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then you are opposed to the existance of sidekicking in any form. Afterall, the developers put it in so you could play with friends that were not in your level range. If they couldn't earn any of the normal benefits from defeating villians, what would be the point of even having sidekicking?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, I interpreted this differently in my previous post. By "range" I thought he was talking about the physical distance between the sidekick and the villain being defeated. If, on the other hand, we are talking about a level range from the sidekick's security level to the villain's combat level, then I agree that it defeats the point of being able to sidekick someone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think this is something that people really are not aware of at this point. There is a level difference range people have to be in so they can received xp in a group. A lvl 5 toon in a group of lvl 30 toons will not get xp unless he gets a sidekick.
Everyone knows that sidekicks have to be within a certain distance range of their mentor to receive the combat bonus level. That means that if the mentor is the one doing the xp-ing he must stay close to the tram to keep the sk bond up. Once the sk is out of range of their mentor and the lvl difference hits that limit NO XP given to the lower lvl toon. Now one could have another toon sk the lower lvl toon and also stand near the tram and now there are 3 people involved in this but that's another story.
Be a FF defender at lvl 25 who gets a sk and invited to a team of lvl 35's in a portal mission. Things go well until your mentor logs. Then the xp stops for the lvl 25 even though mobs are dropping all around until a new mentor is found.
So with this knowledge the "Is PLing a Form of Cheating" really isn't an issue. Instead the issue is " Are Non contributing members of a team standing in relatively safe (trams are not always safe) area and receiving xp is a Form of Cheating?" -

it doesnt negatively impact your ability to play your character in the slighest.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's all there is to say on the subject. Besides jealousy, there's really no reason for you to care.
[/ QUOTE ]
I love this philosophy! We should apply it to real life too. Someone just robbed a convenience store? Who cares? Doesn't affect me. Someone is lying about disability just to collect $$. Who cares? Doesn't affect me. He's right, people are just jealous that the criminal who held up the store got lots of money.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe this is a really bad analogy. I would think that watching a movie in a theater and someone else starts talking would be a better one... Entertainment that requires cost and someone making the entertainment less entertaining versus breaking laws.
But this still doesn't really fit well because you can ignore the person in game and go somewhere else. Or you can drive yourself nuts trying to comprehend how many people are doing this when you are not playing or on servers you don't play on... -
[ QUOTE ]
To the OP, yadayadayada.....
sorry but how people get their levels is of no concern to me.
[ QUOTE ]
my only problem with powerleveling is that it throws off the real figures. then after making the data bunk by having someone else crazy pl them to at least a point where their archtype has some real powers and abilities ..... and then saying the game is too easy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now THIS I do agree with. It skews the numbers and makes datamining less accurate.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would only agree that datamining is less accurate if those doing the mining do not take this type of behavior into their analysis.
In other words if a toon shows a very LARGE sum of xp gained in a short period of time WITHOUT activating any powers a red flag should be placed with that datapoint.
I have faith that the devs are able to identify behaviors like this and are able to make good decisions about this.
