Yeah, I think I would have it accept End Mod sets.
-
random weird idea
What about a passive power than buffs End. Not recovery, your actual Max Endurance.
say, a 10% buff that's enhanceable.
I'm think of this in place of Conserve Power. -
Frostweaver, how do you rationalize Electric having Psy resistance when EA can't have Psy DEF? Basically, I'm trying to imply that if a set based on Electricity(read:Energy) can be rationalized to have Psy protection, certainly a set based on Energy can.
Regarding your other ideas:
[ QUOTE ]
a 'phase style' end rejuvenator.
[/ QUOTE ]
that would be interesting but i think i like having Energy Drain as an active power that takes some work. Though I've often thought that giving EA a copy of Detention Field, allowing us to impose our energy fields on another for a short time.
[ QUOTE ]
'inverted knockback'
[/ QUOTE ]
anit -repel? Sounds fun. I'm not sure if its possible but the concept of a Trick power, an out of the box strength being added to EA is a good one. -
The Ice comparison was started by me and was specifically said about Ice BRUTE numbers, so your comment about Tanker numbers is wrong and also has some negative implications about the ability of people your arguing with to understand balance.
[ QUOTE ]
It's not just the end cost of running the toggles that are the problem, it's ALSO the fact that /ea has more resistance to s/l than ice (ice has none), is able to put out almost the same defense as ice armor against more damage types (about 1.5% less, plus realistic fire defense) PLUS has the anti-aggro of energy cloak to compensate for lacking CE.
[/ QUOTE ]
1. CE provides up to 14% -dmg for Ice. This gets resisted alot but its more than strong enough to outdo the 7.5% S/L resists in EA.
2. Ice also has about 22.5% resistance to Fire in addition to the bit of defense. Ice also has little Cold Def, not that it matters with 120% resists to Cold.
3. Being able to avoid aggro is a dubious talent at best. Even the Stalkers have been given upgrades to make them more able to deal with aggro. Sure both they and EA retain the ability to start fights when they want but the fact that the AT centered around Stealth mechanics just got a buff to their survival outside of that Stealth should say something for us as Brute EA players.
4. i really don't see how EA's cloak is adequate compensation for a cheap taunt aura that slows and does -dmg. Partial compensation, sure. Adequate? eh.....
[ QUOTE ]
Beyond those ideas, I have seen very few ideas that don't simply turn /ea into stone armor without granite.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't understand your comments about no Psy defense. EA's closest comparison set, Elec has that Psy def. You can't argue that a set strong to Energy shouldn't also have some solid Psy protection due to that. -
well, the point is also that right now, it HAS to take tons and tons of pool powers.
my point with Ice was that it has so-so defense and resists to most stuff (like EA) but has lots of nice tricks.
I'd want more nice tricks. -
hp+heal would be nice
my favorite thing right now is to look at the numbers for EA and for Ice if it were on Brute levels. That particular comparison gives some good pointers about where to buff EA. -
actually, AZ, it was a pretty good post. it's worth the read.

same as previous posters have noted and for the same reasons. No way for me to make the conventions. the freak tank was cute, could be fun but not missing much. this though...
Id gladly, gladly pay extra for that , a la wedding pack. which I had bought for god knows what reason I dont even use those....

The last few days I have come to realize how the devs fixed EA.
[/ QUOTE ]
Completely incorrect. Your rationale could be used to justify literally any change to the game. Therefore it is worthless. EA could have 9 copies of Conserve Power and your argument would be just as correct as it is now. It says nothing worthwhile about the balance of EA in relation to other mitigation sets. -
yeah, because adjusting some numbers in a spreadsheet is the same amount of difficulty as fixing all the programming behind a core game mechanic.
it's a poor comparison. -
i'd take that bet if I had a character on champion.

[ QUOTE ]
but the fact that defense is screwed in PvP villainside and the distinctiveness of my set, the stealth, and endurance drain, are both totally useless, has made PvP the only milestone that I just cannot cross.
[/ QUOTE ]
This has more to do with the inherent grotesquely unbalanced nature of PvP in this game. No gimmick added to any one set or AT solves anything while the entirety of the system is broken. Attempts to apply fixes like this simply do not get to the root of the problem.
[ QUOTE ]
I will give you that my idea may be completely unbalanced. I really have not thought about it enough to know.
[/ QUOTE ]
the stealth mechanic itself has been a problem for the devs. I don't actually think it's even feasible for them to create a power than only supresses to a single target like your suggestion. Any suppression in the code right now suppresses for you against everything out there.
Moreover, giving one person the ability to attack with impunity against a single target without that target's allies able to assist him unless they are nearly at the perception cap doesn't seem very balanced at all. Stalkers don't even get to do that and they are the masters of stealth.
Any reasoning provided to show why EA specifically needs this extra ability in PvP will, I believe, tend towards the general imbalances that PVP has and not any specific EA imbalance.
In terms of PvP, I'm inclined to take your PvE EA stance. EA is fine in PvP insomuch as PvP itself is unbalanced. Until the inherent imbalances are removed, we can't even begin to address individual sets and their performance on adequate terms.
[ QUOTE ]
EA is a set built to make a brute that is an invisible energizer bunny of death. The concept of the EA brute is completely unlike any other brute.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is where, of course, you disagree with nearly everyone else. I will agree that the EA concept is different from the other Brutes, but I will not agree that it is so different that its proven lack of competitive mitigation is justified. Even in other ATs where there exists a set with a much different concept from the others, their performance isn't so clearly inferior to the other sets. A good example of what I mean is Dark Melee.
DM gives up nearly all its AoE damage, something that is a big deal for a set that is primarily supposed to do damage. But it gains boatloads of utility for that sacrifice. Recent buffs to other melee sets (and changes to core DM powers) may yet warrant a slight buff to DM's ST ability, but prior to these changes, DM's mix of ST damage and powerful heals, debuffs and buffs made it extremely competitive with all the other melee damage sets.
The tradeoffs that DM makes are paid back to it, in spades, with other strengths.
EA's tradeoffs, so far, are not paid back in the same way. It gives up too much for the tricks it does have. Hell, it gives up even more than its brother set, Elec, and gets even less back in return. -
aside from being horribly unbalanced and completely divergent from the concept of Brutes, sure that's a great PvP idea.
I won't address your opinion about EA since this thread isn't the place. -
[ QUOTE ]
CoX already has the "have and have nots." just take a look at the market forums. this is a good step in my opinion. it allows the "casual" (and i use the term loosely) player to just drop a couple bucks to get a respec, instead of playing the market for a couple of hours or so. it's more options, and i welcome our new financial overlords.
[/ QUOTE ]
why would you do that though. why pay 2/3rds of a monthly fee for something you could earn the cash for in less than a week? (less than a day if you want to)
I understand why they'll make this option available but still, why do this when you can earn it easily in the game? -
[ QUOTE ]
Why should ED be reduced to zero, give less end, when the set should have end drain protection?
Just seems kind of odd, it's an energy themed set, has an end drain and a end reduction power, but it's got no end drain protection....
[/ QUOTE ]
Technically, one might count high defense to Energy as our protection since most drains have an energy component. One might do that. I wouldn't though. Throw a bit of End Drain protection in there. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
For example, kinetic shield may have -speed, -movement resistance, because kinetic is related to movement. Power shield and energy protection can have energy drain protection added(or even detention resistance), because this can be implied from the name of the power.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh.........I NEVER thought about that. What a GREAT idea.
I like it
[/ QUOTE ]
It doen't create stacking issues, it makes tons of sense thematically and it's pretty easy to balance.
Love it! -
[ QUOTE ]
That's why I think the exclusive in-game item is going to be something inconsequential, like a "Fanboy"/"Fangirl" badge or some such. I can't imagine they're going to give away access to an exclusive power, or even an exclusive costume piece, unless it's something silly like the Comic-Con "Eye" emblem.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd pay for a Fanboy badge title.
but that's just me. -
[ QUOTE ]
For those folks that have a COH/COV account there is a special item attached to your VIP pass so make sure you stop by early to ensure you get your badge. This event is not limited to only COH/COV players, so bring your friends too!
[/ QUOTE ]
if anyone going can snag an extra pass (really just the code for the in game item) for me, that'd be awesome.
I'd be willing to purchase said pass also. -
[ QUOTE ]
However, we're not really clear in what ways energy aura is lacking.
[/ QUOTE ]
the most immediate way to show this is to compare to /Electric. EA and Elec are very similar.
Elec gets these things, but EA doesn't
capped mitigation to Energy damage just but taking and slotting powers in the set
significant psionic mitigation
taunt in power sink/energy drain
There's no reason why EA should lack any of those things.
EA also lags behind Elec because it doesn't have lightning field to make the end drains more effective (as Arcana showed), so it should have other mitigation to bring it up to par.
So you have to do 2 sets of buffs.
1. to bring regular numbers up to Electric's level (minus end drains)
2. some other (preferably non-DEF oriented) mitigation to bring it up to where Elec and all the other secondaries actually are. -
maybe it'd be nice if they just changed it to that then and gave it to Brutes and Stalkers? Click power that gives 1 repluse tick. recharge, 20 seconds. end cost 6 or so.
-
Sorry, I like the power too. it's a great concept. but in terms of helping the set, i think it does the least right now, even less than the passives. with stamina, IOs and ed, it's not needed.
-
Conserve Power is the definitely at the top of my list for things to be replaced if the set were being changed. I'm still not sure they'll give EA a straight up click heal, but whatever they decide, I think losing CP is more than some of the other ideas to nix certain powers.

I know we've talked about +hp on drain before... I think you were a part of the discussion??? (It would have been 4 or 5 "fix ea" threads ago... and my memory has faded somewhat) and such a buff would be scalapble, it'd be self limiting, it'd be brutish, and would genuinely help I'd say that this with +psi def on entropy shield and more energy def... well anywhere really... would be a great change.
Sure it'd be soft against AVs, but that's not the most important point.
I might quibble with the exact numbers, but that's hardly important.
Personally I'd still prefer EG's static values, but I'd be thrilled with this too.
We'll probably have to wait for EA to be ported before it gets looked at though...
[/ QUOTE ]
yeah, my original idea was actually for a new power that would give +regen per foe. i still maintain tha castle stole it and made RttC. -
what if it was Dull Pain with a per target effect? Just the DP effect though, scaled like RttC.
10.4 endurance
200 second recharge
120 second duration
5 target limit
20% HP boost per target
effect does not stack from same caster
5% HP boost per target
unenhanceable
slotted that's
1 - 45
2 - 50
3 - 55
4 - 60
5 - 65
