    Hello

    <QR>

    Hi.
  3. And so the night's festivities began. Checkerboard goats gravely danced the tarrantella, while broken yet still functional robots snorted lines of hydraulic oil off the mummified chest of Richard Nixon. A small toy porcelain doll looked across the scene, a single blue-green tear rolling down her cheek like a meatball. It was not the grotesque depravity of the celebrants that distressed her; of this she heartilly approved. Rather, what broke her heart was the impending loss of the wormwood moon and, more importantly, the jolly little cakes that went with it.

Has anyone tried to figure out which way one would have to go to end up in the same place without turning around?

It's hard.. Unless you have an oval track in which people go round and round for no apparent reason.

That said.. I don't like NASCAR.

    1) Pick any direction
    2) Move forward between 24,859 and 24,901 miles.
    3) Look around and find that you're back where you started.

  7. Come now, you should know that the complete demise of a SG doesn't mean it won't be talked about on the Champion forums. How else can we generate useless drama?

    Flatline FTW!

  9. From the description of G's eMachine:

Not sure this is quite what they meant...

I'm just one of those guys who doesn't like to see something still usable go to waste.

    **snip**

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree- but having a second account rig doesn't do a lot of good if you don't have a first account rig. But, waste not, want not- especially when trying to economize. That's why I suggested cannibalizing what he could (case, psu, hard drive, CD drives) and replacing the essential guts (mobo, processor, memory and vidcard). Even still- I don't know if I could do it for less than the $200 starter you posted. Not a bad deal.
  11. I thought that he had a card in the AGP slot previously that he was replacing. Perhaps I'm misremembering now. The description of the eMachine gat posted says it has a "premuim graphics card" which suggests something other than onboard vid.

In any case, I'd be wary of investing too much more $$ in this machine, and start saving those pennies for a new rig. You don't need to spend thousands on the latest alienware, especially if you build it yourself and canibalize the parts that still function from the eMachine. At this point is seems like you might be rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

    UPDATE:

My onboard video card (i.e. nVIDA) doesn't like ATI. That and the AGP slot might not take cards with a power source. So returning the card I have is a must, now I just need a video card that doesn't take a power source..

    Any ideas?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Uh, who's feeding you this [censored]? Neither the thing about ATI vs. NVIDIA nor the power source thing is true.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I agree... sounds fishy.
This would fit the requirements you list, I think- nVidia card, no external power. (Does CoH run on a 6200? It won't be pretty even if it does...) But before that I'd get a second opinion. Your onboard graphics shouldn't be interfering with the card if they uninstalled the drivers and properly installed the drivers for the card. And I've never heard of a conflict with a card just because it is hooked to a power soirce. Then again, I haven't worked on a machine with AGP for a long time.

Dangit.. All I had was a Gigabitz, a local store, and they were sold out..(And RadioShack but that was a stretch) But I was directed towards a local guy who could have the cord extended in five minutes or less, and that's what I'm doing today.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As long as it doesn't entail speaker wire and duct tape, you might be OK. Cutting and splicing wires inside a computer case can be dicey (No Pun intended). Always use Electrical Tape, and always use the same gauge (as in size circumference), and conduit style (As in braided core or solid core) wire and keep the spliced portions away from any circuitry in case the taping job was insufficient and there is a chance for arcing.
If you trust this guy, then ok....
But, getting an extender or splitter that or properly made for this sort of thing is always better than "a guy who can make the wire longer"

    Good Luck.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No worries- he just grabs the wire by each end and stretches it! Splicing is SO for noobs. Duh!

(But seriously, I'd just drop the couple of bucks on shipping and get a real extension from Microcenter or newegg. It doesn't have the instant gratification of taking it to "a guy" but you have better chances of it working properly. The question you gotta ask yourself is, do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do you?)

Yes, you both, indeed, are correct. Now where can I buy one of those... Without ordering it online? I would just run down to Circuit City, but.. Ya'know.. They're closed.. T_T the economy strikes again!

    [/ QUOTE ]

MicroCenter if they are in your area. Some of the smaller computer stores have the Odd cables over BuyMore type stores.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Truth. And you won't find something that specialized at a Circuit City or Best Buy anyway. They sell a few parts- vidcards, PSUs, HDs... but for simple DIY parts their selection is weak and overpriced. Microcenter rules, but if you don't have one in your area search yellow pages for a small computer supply/repair shop and call around to see if they carry what you seek.

Worst case- order it from microcenter or newegg over the web. That's what the interwebnetz are for... shopping. Oh, and of course that other thing. O.O

Edit- does Radio Shack still carry parts?

Forgot about The Replacements. I actually like that movie. And I can't believe no one mentioned Point Break.

They were looking for good movies.

The best... nay.. the only good thing about Point Break was that it was featured prominently in Hot Fuzz.

Possibly a big problem: the auxiliary power cables on my PC will not reach the doo-dad on the video card.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While you're technospeak is impecable, I'm not quite sure what kind of doo-dad you have on the card. Give us a clue, how many pins does the connector on the card have?

Regardless, I suspect it is not a big problem. There's lots of small "extension" cords you can get, with various connectors and adapters. If you don't have a microcenter (or equivalent) locally, they have a whole assortment of stuff on line.

The Gift isn't a chick flick. It's an early Sam Raimi film about a murder and a psychic. Katie Holmes bites it- which is a good enough reason to like it as far as I'm concerned.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    O.O
How did I not know about this film?
I'm a huge Sam Raimi Fan!
Ever since I saw Evil Dead, I was hooked.
I'll have to check this out one now!

Oh, and for the record, A Scanner Darkly sucked.
And y'all know it to be true.
If it didn't have the trendy cell-shading filmography, it would have been an unfunny version of Half Baked, and that's just horrible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So wrong. It was based on a book by Phillip K. Dick, which gives it bonus points right out of the gate.
