I must admit that I'm surprised at the generalized lack of interest from the Protector community in general. I know the Halloween Event is in full swing, but this New Player Night was scheduled so it would not overlap anything else.

We could make do with what we have so it's not a big deal, but I recall some past NPNs where we had to turn away people.

If I'm the problem, please let me know, and I'll pass on the New Player Council management to someone else. The goal is to help out new players, and retain them on our server. It matters not who's in charge, and if people feel others are more competent to do this I would concur as well. They just need to step up.

OK, that guide should be mandatory reading - at least for the team leaders.

The description you made of the trivia contest is exactly what I had in mind as well, hence the need for a few assistants to ensure the fastest repliers are not missed.

BTW, I like your comment about Paragon Wiki, and I think this might even simplify matters on one hand, and allow new players more exposure to Paragon Wiki on the other.

Funds received / promised = 480M, which is downright awesome since I never expected to have this much, so soon before the event. Thanks everyone who's donated so far. I've updated my previous post up there to highlight your generosity.

If you're reading this thinking "oh well, they have what they need now - no need to contribute" please consider investing anyhow. Whatever is deemed "extra" will be reinvested in the next triathlon a few weeks after this one, where the prizes will hopefully be of "epic" scale.

The more valuable recipes are also good if you're willing to part with them.


What we really need now are volunteers: Judges, trivia proposals / assistants.

For some of you, time is more valuable than inf/recipes and I understand that completely. But if you're on this server it's because you value its community and the camaraderie it's brought you. Please consider giving an hour of your time on that Monday night as a volunteer to reinvest in your server.

Better yet, if you'd like to be considered an official member of the New Player Council on Protector, please let me know. Whatever time you can invest in encouraging Protector's new players is appreciated.

...with the note re: Shivan acquisition 30 min. prior, so no one has to wait up, and we get the max number of Shivans on our teams.

Great suggestion there.

If I can propose another: to ensure everyone has a chance to get the Shivans, we could take an extra 20-30 minutes beforehand to grab some before we even hit the teleporters.

I'll add that offer to the calendar entry to maximize our Shivan acquisition.

Hot on the heels of the Halloween event, Protector's New Player Council and the Mentor Project are hosting a New Player Triathlon - Intro Edition on Monday, Nov. 1 at 8PM (eastern).

There is an influx of new players and it's time for us to highlight what makes Protector great, by having another run of the New Player Night. It's one of those that sets Protector apart - an idea which has sparked a new player assistance project that now spans all servers across North america and Europe.

Let's set the pace and start things rolling again by greeting our new players officially.


This event will consist of 3 parts:

• Costume contest
• Bio contest
• Trivia contest

All events will occur in Pocket D. Allowances will be made for the trivia part, where participants will be allowed to leave the zone and send their answers to a team leader who will report correct answers back to me.

It will be open for participants who show 12 months of vet rewards and under, and each category will have an amount of inf given to the best spot(s) of each category.

There will also be random participation prizes offered in the form of costume recipes (nods to Red and Grey here). I'd also like to hand out a special prize for whichever new player the participating volunteers vote upon as having the best attitude / demeanor that night.

Right now, I'm asking for the following from our current volunteers, and any other kind-hearted generous regulars who would like to participate:

• Judges for costume and bio contests. Contributions to inf prizes encouraged for this role.
• Assistants for trivia contest coordination.
• Contributions of influence.*
• Contributions of trivia questions.**
• Promoters to announce the event in advance in the zones (all sides), a week in advance and then a couple of hours before the actual event.

I'm listing this event as an introduction since it will not require as much activity from the players this time as, say, a TF run or monster defeat competition.
