Dr. McCourd made his way out of his office. He looked at Derek, who flinched. Dr. McCourd had to smile.
"Gotta tell the old man, he's got his chip."
He walked out of the lab, and made his way to the elevator. It felt like 20 minutes passed until it came down, though it was only about 3. He pushed the button for the top floor, and waited, trying to ignore the cheesy music playing in the elevator. -
Toulon stood up, "Hey... I didn't gets my turn. I'm Toulon the elf,"
He swooshed his long blonde hair to show off his pointed his ears. Then he lifted his sword up into the air.
"Hyah!" he swung the sword around over his head. -
Dr. McChourd looked through the letters after the doors closed, then paused as he looked at the DVD sized package. It had no return address. When the doors opened to the R&D lab, he made his way to his office, shutting the door.
The letters he set down on the corner of his desk, the envelope he opened immediately. Sure enough, there was a plain black dvd case. Opening it, he saw blank CD and a small note.
I thought you might need a little help.
C
He popped the CD into his computer and accessed the disc. A single text file was on the CD. Opening the file, his eyes narrowed. There was information on power conversion that he had never thought of. He looked at his equation, then back at the file. He read more, then stood up, erasing half his board.
The chalk clicked loudly as he scratched away at it, the board filling up quickly. He stood back, looking at it, then looking at the file.
"Whoever gave me this hint, it's their loss for letting me complete this V-chip first."
He stormed out of his office and walked over to, Derek Silverman, a timid technician who just got in, and sat at his desk.
"Derek. Get the plant up and running. We've got a Z-chip to make."
"Y-yes... Docter Mc-McChourd. Right away," Derek stood and ran across the room to a bulky piece of machinery with a small terminal on its side. Derek pulled a large lever down, powering it up.
Dr. McChourd walked over to the terminal, and began punching in sequences into the terminal. He laughed as the excitement of his hardest work was about to be complete.
"D-doctor?"
"Yes Derek," Dr. McChourd turned, not wanting his moment to be interrupted.
"The manufacturing sequence will take up to ten hours, sir. Then we have to test the chip, to see if it works correctly."
"Ten hours!?! That is unacceptable. My dream is about to become a reality, and you built this dinosaur of a machine that will take ten hours? You're lucky that I like you, kid. If it were anyone else, I'd have your job for lunch, and your degree for dinner. "
He stormed away from the machine and slammed the door to his office.
Derek stood there, his eyes wide in fear. He let out a sigh of relief that his job was still intact. He sat at his desk and muttered to himself.
"That guy seriously needs to switch to Decaf." -
"Hello Milly," Dr. McCourd nodded to her.
He couldn't help, but like her. She didn't get on his nerves, like the fellow scientists he had to work with. She seemed rather innocent to him. His face was still a little sour, from his talk with the CEO.
"You comin' down to R&D?"
He slid his hands into his lab coat pockets, giving her a weak smile, before his mind went back to the CEO's words.
I want the prototype of the Z-chip on my desk, yesterday. HA. You want perfection, you can wait.
His eyes seemed to be a little more calm, since he knew he was still in control. Once he figured out the formula, the Z-Chip will be ready for the prototype phase. He looked back at Milly.
"Any mail for me today?" -
"EEEWWW," Toulon plugged his nose, "What's that smell?"
He looked around, he felt the jolt, but the numbness faded quickly. If anyone really notice, he didn't have a single scar on him. He tapped the handle of his wooden sword against his forehead, and chuckled. -
Toulon skipped into the room, waving his wooden sword over his head, "Hyah hyah."
He leapt into the air, swinging the sword in a circling arc, and landed indian style on the rug. He didn't hit anybody, but he always thought it was a cool way to sit. -
"That's Dr. Ethan McCourd, Miss."
Ethan removed his shoes, revealing the Argyle socks he wore. It was a quirky habit of his, but he dared someone to say something to him about it. He made his way into the office, and stood next to the chairs. He crossed his arms looking at the CEO. He gave the old man a slight smile, only in appreciation for the job.
"You wished to see me, sir?" his voice civil, yet cold. -
The sound of wood banging on the door reached her ears. When the door opened a small boy with long blonde hair and pointed ears stood in the entryway. He wore a white T-shirt, and black shorts. He held a wooden sword in his hand, and he smiled.
"YAY! I did it. I beated the door."
He walked inside, smiling. He put the wooden sword at his waist. He looked up at the other kids playing, his smile widening. Then he walked up to Essex, and tapped her leg.
"I'm Toulon... like the number two," He held up two fingers, "and lawn. Like the grass," he chuckled, cause he told everyone that.
Then he turned to Rosie, "Ooh, Doggie." -
Dr. Ethan McCourd had completed his PHD only months before. He was instantly picked up by Tharomar Enterprises after graduation. His hypothesis on synthesysing (sp*) electricity had gotten him a position in Research and Development.
At 25 years of age, he was a bright young prodigy out of Paragon University. His attitude wasn't favored among his classmates, feeling he was better and smarter than the rest. Now that he was working hard on a new project, his gloating only increased.
He always wore a white lab coat, over a tucked in flannel shirt. His slacks were slightly wrinkled, but always seemed to be clean. As the time passed at Tharomar, he seemed to have grown a permanent 5 o'clock shadow. His light-brown hair was short, but seemed to always look like he had just woken up. His eyes were bright and alert, behind a set of wire framed glasses.
He had come into the building early that morning, to go over some more designs on his project. He just couldn't seem to get it right.
The others that work in here are just not smart enough to keep up with me, anyways.
He closed the door to his office, and walked over to a blackboard. Difficult equations were scratched all over it in random places. He picked up the eraser, wiping away one fraction, disgust on his face.
"Wrong. Wrong. It's just wrong."
He picked up a peice of chalk, writing another equation in its place. He stepped back, looking at the board. He shook his head, disappointed in himself, when the white phone on his desk rang.
"Gah, always a distraction."
He lifted the receiver to his ear, "Dr. McCourd," he sighed, "I'll be right up."
He walked out of his office, slamming the door behind him.
Stupid, impatient old goat. Can't he let a scientist work in peace.
((Just as a heads up, the building is your standard skycraper. The R&D is obviously in the basement of the building, off limits to most of the other workers, unless you're also in R&D. The lobby is an open area, with elevators, a security desk, a fountain, and the glitz and glamour expected of a corporate giant. The other floors of the building are more stereotypical office type floors, with cubicles, corner offices, and all that.
Each floor is a different Department. So, Nin and I will hammer out the details on what floor is what and all, but for the most part, feel free to pick your floor and occupation, and we'll work with it.
And of course, the CEO is on the top floor, in his immaculate office. With a couple others of the Higher management. Pass on a PM to Nin if you have any questions.)) -
I too am new... only been posting on AH101. Feel free to critique me as well.
