Kraven stalked down the hall of his Founders Falls apartment building and slowed before coming to a stop at his door. Reaching down into his shoe to grab his key he heard someone talking inside.
-"Oh yes, I've heard what those horrible people have been doing lately. It's simply awful!" Sonya said in a melodramatic tone"
-"It really is awful, that's why we at Citizens Rallying to Alter Paragon have vowed to chase these horrible vigilantes out of our great city. These so-called 'heroes' . . . "
Another one? That's the 3rd activist this week coming to our door asking for money! Kraven pushed the door open to see his beautiful girlfriend sitting down at the table with a man in a very cliche suit and tie. All pompous and self-righteous the man sat and preached to Sonya about the dangers of having so many Heroes in paragon. This kind of thing had stopped angering him a long time ago, now he just liked to toy with the fools. Fortunately he was dressed properly for the occassion today. It was rare that Kraven actually dressed like a Hero, cape billowing in the wind, but these guys always seemed to com around when he had. Today was different though. His jeans and black t-shirt would keep the idiot convinced that Kraven was not the very thing the man was fighting. Considering the way he was talking to Sonya, he assumed the man didn't know what she was either. Fool.
"Hi babe, what are you doing here?" he said from the behind the man's shoulder, scaring him literally off of the chair. The activist hadn't seen or heard Kraven enter.
"Oh, you're sister wasn't feeling well and she couldn't get a hold of you to come watch over her so she asked me."
"Is she alright?"
"She's fine, just her migraine's again. They seem to be pretty bad this time around though."
"That's strange, I've been having the same problem myself all day. My heads pounding like rap concert and no amount of aspirin will help" Kraven commented as he gave her a quick glance to signal her. A small glint in her eyes showed she was ready.
"I really don't understand it actually, it's just . . . " he dropped to his knees making sure he made his face show as much pain as possible. "AAAHHHHhhh, whats going on?!" He grabbed his head at the the temples and starting shaking and shivering. Suddenly Kraven stood up and threw out his arms as he let a piercing scream fill the small apartment. He started to channel energy through his hands and eyes to make them glow a brilliant blue and softly levitated himself up off the ground.
The man in the suit was petrified, convinced he was watching a monster being born he jumped to his feet and ran out the door leaving a trail of some sort of liquid dripping out of his pants along the way. Kraven and Sonya burst out laughing as soon as the man was clear of earshot and continued for quite a while.
"Man, that was the best one in a while" Kraven said after he regained his breath enough to talk, wiping the tears from his eyes.
"Heheh, yeah. Too bad he left such a mess" Sonya responded with a sigh, looking at the puddles along the floor. A door creaked in the back of the room and Kraven's older sister rolled herself out of her bedroom in the wheelchair that he hated. He had been there the night she was put in that chair, the night his journey as a hero started. Simply looking at the cursed thing tore at his heart. She used to be such a gifted runner
"Oh, crap I'm sorry Jenn. I forgot you were back there, we'll try to be quiet for you." But as he looked at her face he knew something was wrong. She wasn't suffering from her normal migraines, he could recognize those. This was different. Her head was hung low as she struggled to push wheel the chair towards him. Slowly, she lifted her head and stared at him.
"There's somethign wrong Kraven . . . I, I . . " Her eyes rolled back into her head and she crumpled up and fell forward to the ground. Kraven ran over to her and scooped her up. As soona as he touched her icey skin his suspicions were confirmed. A strange aura was permeating her skin, making Kravens tingle. He was not proficient in magic but with all the time's he had battled against Banished Pantheon and the Circle of Thorns he had come to be able to sense magic and even differentiate some spells. Fortunately this was one of those spells. Kraven closed his eyes and placed a hand on her forehead covering the faint symbol now glowing there, too dim to make out. As he concentrated on the very slight aura he could almost read it.
"This is not good."
"What isnt? Whats wrong?" Sonya asked quickly, now very obviously concerned.
"Somethings been done to her, some sort of spell. But it feels like her body is rejecting it. It's complex too, I'm not sure what it is but it feels like it's wound pretty tightly."
"Wound tightly, what do you mean?"
"I'm not sure, I'm not an expert. But it feels like . . . hmm. It feels like a really well made bomb. Cut the wrong wire and Boom! But like I said, I'm no expert, I'm just going by what I can feel. Come on, we need to get her to M.A.G.I." And with that he vanished teleporting himself out of the room with Jenn in his arms as he did it.
Sonya quickly locked the door, threw a rag onto the ground and scrubbed up what she could of the activists mess. As soon as she was finished she strapped her sword to her back and leapt out the window making her way, rooftop to rooftop, to Atlas Park.
