I understand perfectly what a logical fallacy is. Do you?

    You are saying that:

    System A (yours).
    System B (hers).
    C is the game.

You are saying that because A works with C and B is not working with C that means B is faulty. This ignores the possibility that the problem might be C, thus a logical fallacy.

Given that any player can point to a dozen acknowledged bugs in the game, and unofficially many more exist, it doesn't follow that the problem is the other computer.

    Edit:
Anyways the graphics card and system exceeds the required specifications for the game:

Yes, because up until last year my system ran better on blue (more on this in a bit). The only time I played red was with extremely small teams. Order of travel powers I prefer: Flight, Teleport, Super Leap, Super Speed.

Actually I think I got the context quite clear. Let me highlight some of it for you:
    Quote:
Fourth .. Forbin thank you so much for adding fuel to the recent flame fire over Empathy. WHYwould you even bother to take the power set and not take all the good things it offers? Unlike so many other buffing sets one huge advantage of Empathy is there are at least 3 power that actually affect and help you solo or on a team. SO unless you don't feel the need to be able to recover End and heal faster alonng with being able to heal yourself at least takie all three of your auras. Oh and please don't team with that character EVER. When I join a team with an EMP/ Defender or a /EMP Controller, especially if I am specifically asked to join for my buffs, I use CM and Fort s fast as they recharge and have them slotted to do so quickly. Builds like the one you are describing are the reason EMP is considered the "HEALOR" powerset and so many bad ones exist these days it gives those of us that know how to use our powers a bad name. At high levels unless you are facing a heavy hitting AV healing is not what we do best. Hitting the team with CM so they don't spent half their time held, immobbed, asleep, or disoriented an FORT to buff their defense and ability to hit are. I also play Thermals and while the buffs are great not one of them affects me so solo my whole power set is pretty much useless aside from heal and on a team I am the only one I can't buff so if I am held or asleep or stunned no one is getting buffed. I don't know WHAT planner you are looking at but delete it and use what the powerset gives you to HELP your team.
I think I got the context quite well. Wendy seems intent on telling Forbin what exactly is wrong with his build and then proceeds to berate him for it. She goes further and tells him to delete the character "so he can create a better one." Better for who? Well it would be better for her play style, but maybe not for his. I know I've built my empath without some of the powers she has insisted are "needed" and it has done very well over the years (both solo and on teams).

Like I said, I don't need anyone to tell me how to build my characters. Because I don't build generic characters, I know that my play style will not mesh with hers. So I want to be proactive by not teaming with her in the first place.

In general, I do the same. I'm not here to be a rabid anti-buff. I like to play the buff ATs more than the damage dealers. However, I don't buy the argument that "just because my machine isn't affected, it is obviously the fault of your computer." The logic fallacy of that statement is gaping.

    Ok, in order:

I started out in 2005 with a Celeron 1.8 GHz with 1 GB ram and a GeForce 2 graphics card. I ran with lower settings but it was still playable. The only thing at the minimum specs for the game was the graphics card. However Speed Boost would either cause a slide show or crash my system, just like being on a Hami Raid (Issue 6). I think in both cases that I got down to .5 FPS before the crash.

In 2006, I got a GeForce 6600. I didn't raise my graphics settings a lot, but kept particles to nil as well as some other settings. I could actually participate in Hami Raids without crashing often. If I reduced some graphics settings the Hami Raids wouldn't crash me, but Speed Boost did (and reduced my FPS at LEAST 10 FPS, if not more).

At the end of 2007, I got an AMD 64 Dual Core 2.6 system with 2 GB ram and an onboard nVidia chipset. Zoning to Ouroboros had a 50-50 chance of crashing me to the desktop. Speed boost would lower my FPS, but didn't crash me as often.

At the end of 2008, I got a nVidia 8600 GTX card and a new power supply to run it. I can zone freely to Ouroboros, my machine can keep up with speed boost, but I still don't like it.

[edit]Above dates now correct, and I'll add that this year I've upgraded my ram, but will have to wait a bit till I get Windows 7 to fully use the extra 4 GB of ram.[/edit]

I haven't tested if I still drop FPS, but I suspect that after that Kinetics overhaul a while back the problem lessened. That overhaul, if people forget, caused some of the Kinetics powers to crash some systems (shock!) because it slammed the sound card with a sound for each target hit. Higher end systems could handle the extra CPU/sound card cycles needed, some couldn't. Given the attitude of some of the posters here, that problem wasn't with the game, it was with customer's computers.

The problem with that kind of thinking is that we'd still have issues, even though customer's computers were in spec (and a bit above average) for the game. These same people that constantly tell others to upgrade their system blindly forget the fact that if the game is constantly needing to be run on only high or bleeding edge systems then the user base as a whole cannot keep up and the game loses customers.

Again, a non sequitur, or you should stress "probably". You have absolutely no way of knowing if it is the game or the hardware.

Now, whether or not having an arc flagged as "Dev Choice" is worth a badge is something that can be argued. However, it's frustrating to note that Bug Hunter is still out there, whereas Chosen One is not. That's an incongruity that needs to be rectified, in either direction.
Agreed, Bug Hunter should be eliminated. In its place I suggest that a special, selectable title be enabled for those that have earned it. This title could be selected at the trainers and be available to the entire account.

Well, I've been asking for the arena farm loophole be closed for years now. Personally I think that if you are gone from the game long enough to normally activate the AFK timer, then all badge progress should stop.

Actually, if you want to spend the time during the event all the Halloween event badges are obtainable in the exact same fashion as the previous years.

And before someone tries to bring up the Valentine Badges, you can still get those too. A couple have changed from logging in to end of mission rewards, but they are still around.

Yes, many times, the character I'm working on currently is a Fire/Kin. I just ran a Hess TF a couple of hours ago on it. One person responded to my standard question of "who doesn't want speed boost?" with "not in caves please." Know what? The task force went smooth as silk and that person's request was honoured.

Hmm, My first two fifties were Ill/Emp and Ice/FF, both with 500+ hours of play by the time they reached that point. I still play both regularly. The majority of my active characters are buff-oriented.

I probably wouldn't want to play with them, but only because if they are so focused on DPS to not accommodate a player's play style then that is not my idea of "fun".

No, but I'll try to stay out of range, or find other ways to negate the buff on some of my characters. One of my favourites is to hover.

I've made my fair share of mistakes in the past, and I don't usually worry if someone buffs or fails to buff me by accident.

I do get annoyed if I get boosted into a group and die because someone assumes that I want it. I'll make a note on the character and if they do it too often I'll let them know.

I've found the exact opposite. I had super speed on one character for six months trying to get used to it. I prefer any other means of transportation over super speed. I'd use hover over it (and have).

Actually, every year the developers say it is a bonus to you for logging into the game during a certain period. Given that, it would be acceptable for the developers to change these badges from character->global. Just like Positron said they were looking into.

Actually the way I read it, Astrolynx just wants a placeholder (like vet reward placeholders) to be able to copy that badge to their other characters. This would keep the badges to those that did log in during those periods.

    5th Year anniversary announcement:
    Quote:
Beginning at 11am EST on Wednesday, April 29th and continuing until 11:59pm EST on Sunday, May 31st, we will be issuing each individual character you log into the game with, the following 5 Year Anniversary badge:
Yes, by design it is for each character specifically. However it is for out of game actions and reasons, so they should logically be in their own category. As repeatedly suggested, this should be an account category. Veteran Rewards and certain other badges should be moved to the same category.

As to the change from character to global, given Positron's statements in the last year, if the developers can see the reasons to change these badges from their current state then needing to prove "why" is somewhat moot.
  6. I think it is funny that people are attacking me thinking that I oppose giving out free buffs. I don't. However, I do respect people that request that I do not buff them.

    1) I don't crash that often these days as I do have a better computer and the fact that the developers do try to fix crash bugs faster than other bugs.

    2) ANY crashing of the game should be treated with a #1 priority. It usually means sloppy code in my experience.

I made a suggestion last summer that people should be given an optional "speed slider" to have the ability to cap their own speed to what they are comfortable with, along with the ability to enable/disable that cap.

I would think that if you had read this entire thread, you would have realized that this whole thread is about people who wish to decline buffs. It doesn't matter if the buff is causing a crash or not -- the buff is unwanted, therefore the player should have the right to refuse the buff.

If you want to pay for a new computer for me, go ahead. I've finished post-secondary school in the last six months, I'm looking for work, and I've paid for this game (thanks to careful budgeting) until June. My entertainment budget is fixed and has been spent.

My computers (even my old ones) still meet the specs for the game. If the computers were below game specs, then you might have a point. Until that time, the developers should be doing their job to eliminate any crashes they can.

I'm a programmer. If my code blows up for a user because I forgot to put in a safety check for a buffer overrun, it isn't the user's fault -- it's mine. It doesn't matter if 99.9999% of the users don't experience the failure.

It would also be nice if the "suppress extra effects" option actually worked properly. It doesn't. If it did, you would not have to enable it every single session. It returns to being disabled every single time you start the game. Yes, I've bugged it several dozen times.

In addition, even though I have a better system than when I started this game, I still sometimes request that I don't get a Speed Boost buff because it does negatively affect my game in certain circumstances.
  10. You didn't mention if you are looking for heroes or villains.

Heroes: Madelaine Casey has a number of outdoor Carnie maps that can be used.

Villains: I suspect you'll have to go with paper missions.

Either way: you'll have to play with the difficulty settings to get Master Illusionists if you are thinking of doing this solo or in a small team.

I'm just barely in the top 50 (higher if you go by players instead of characters) despite the fact that I'll NEVER be able to get to that top spot due to some unobtainable badges (4 Vet badges behind the leader, bug hunter, etc). The Veteran, Anniversary, Bug Hunter, Passport, and the VIP/Destined One badges make any thought that this is a level competition a complete farce. To a degree the Pocket D VIP badge likewise provides an unlevel playing field.

All these are player badges, as opposed to character badges. As such these badges should be moved to a non-counting group, just like the Super Group badges. Call them "Account badges" or something like that. At that point, players have an equal chance to "get them all". Until then leader boards just illustrate the inequity of the system.

    Here is an idea:

    • Raise the rank of Cysts to AVs. Increase the threat of them by limiting the amount of "puffies" they spawn, yet boost the "puffies" abilities. Likewise increase rewards.
    • Only spawn cysts in Kheldian missions. This is a no-brainer thanks to the storyline and back story for the Cysts. They are NOT supposed to be random spawning according to the back story.

A nearly complete list of badge targets can be found in this post and the post immediately following it.

Well, Synapse didn't clear all the badge issues, and Sunstorm didn't clear all the base issues. Congratulations on your move (sideways?).

Story-wise, the menders and midnighters are two separate factions.

Yeah, I really should update that. I'll include links to those guides in the update.

Fact is, the progress bar seems to "tick" just like it always had before, and there seems to be specific increments that it hits along the way, which still gives us a better idea of our progress, but could vary by a few points either way.
This describes a typical progress bar rounding error. Totally normal.

Actually there are two PPD buildings in Atlas Park.

If you are going to the one in the north east, you can't enter the building. If you go to the one right beside the student plaque, you can:

Oh, and to the suggestion for opening up the Galaxy City PPD: /signed.

I mostly agree with this. I would like Warshades to get a team teleport though.

    Erm, 5 flight types.

They also get access to Group Energy Flight, and Quantum Flight (fly+intangible).

And Warshades get Starless Step (TP Foe) and Nebulous Form (jump+intangible).

Actually, any booster has to be more, not less, balanced. So the rest of your suggestion is flawed based on the fact that your foundation is bad.

    Booster class ^^
This will never happen due to the outcry from the player base.

As a Fire/Kin nope. If you were a character with Assault Rifle or Mercenaries then you'd unlock two Nemesis rifles for the Unveiler Badge, or if you had War Mace you'd unlock the Carnie Mallet for defeating the Master Illusionist pets.
