  1. Whether someone thinks the server population is an emaciated shadow of it's former glory or stronger than ever before doesn't really matter. Either way it's both a) perception and b) only a single data point.

The only way to tell would be based on subscriber numbers. Whether current ones are floating around or not, I don't know. I'm sure as hell not going to google it on my damn phone, maybe when I get home.

    tl;dr: this argument is stupid.
  2. Whatever you like the look of, really. Any tanker decently built will be able to tank all of the TFs and SFs in the game. Depending on circumstances you may need inspirations or support for some fights (like tower buffed Recluse) but those are exceptions.

If its to be a main SF/TF character, I'd say given any Tanker will work, go with whatever you want. There are a few caveats for the different Tanker primaries*, but nothing major.

*Fire is squishier than the others but has good damage, Stone is slow, WP has a bad taunt aura.
  3. Global channels are cross-server, yes.
  4. Canadaman, with powers of excessive politeness and the ability to detect maple syrup from over 100 miles away!
  5. Cool, but in what way is this a guide?
  6. Actually, as an outside observer it seems neither side is very willing to compromise.

Side A says you can join but only on condition X, side B says we won't agree to condition X.

Side B says let us join under condition Y, side A says we won't agree to condition Y.

The whole thing has gotten absurd, really. Never change, pvp threads.

    1 Tanker only

I thought the whole idea of Tanker Tuesday was just Tankers getting together for the fun of it. I don't think you can really learn anything about tanking on a team full of Tankers.
  13. Quoth the American. I'm from London and I can assure you, it is standard practice to drown catgirls at birth.
  14. If you mean East Ender as in someone from the East End of London, I would tell them they are wrong to say an house.

However, I would tell them to take solace in the fact that they are at least not a catgirl.
  15. Yeah, I built my SS/FA for pure recharge. I know if I built for fire defense I wouldn't need any purples (or at least far fewer) for farming, but the build trade offs aren't worth it to me. Inspirations rain from the sky when farming.

I mash my insp combining binds to make all the reds I need, 1-2 purples at a time is plenty to keep me on my feet. I don't need Healing Flames much either. At most once a run if I have bad luck with insp drops.
  16. This is something I've discussed a lot with my coworkers. They complain that English is really difficult, precisely for the reasons we've come across here. Idiosyncratic pronunciation, having several words which mean technically the same thing but have very subtle differences in connotation/meaning.

I disagree. I think English is easy to learn, difficult to master. Mechanically English is a relatively straightforward language. English only has two 'real' tenses, four if you include past perfect and present progressive. German has 4-6. English has one word for 'the', German has three. English nouns don't have gender, many languages do. Oh, and the words for 'the' in German also change based on the gender of the noun.

Once you learn the pronunciation rules for German, you can say pretty much any word correctly, even if you've never seen it before. This is not the case for English. With an intermediate grasp of English you may pronounce all kinds of words wrong, but you can speak technically correct English pretty easily. You can't do that with most continental European languages.

So cast my vote for English as easy to learn, difficult to master. I'm definitely glad I didn't have to learn it as a foreign language
  17. Really? Cool, learn something new everyday.

Makes sense though, when I say it out loud. An supergroup sounds wrong, an ess gee sounds fine.

English is a funny old thing.
  18. No dude, an SG. An comes before a noun when the noun starts with a vowel.

    An apple = correct

    An house = NEIN FALSCH

Oh and if I may play the villain a little further, while its awfully cute to say all of Champion is a SG, it's not terribly helpful for someone looking for one.

Prior to the changes, there was a clear distinction between a normal player and good player. Going beyond that, there was a definite distinction between "good" and "highly-skilled".
    Fair enough.

That's not me being an elitist, as I've worked with a lot of really terrible/new players in order to answer their questions and build them up in order to compete, that's just reality.
Also a fair point. For me personally, I know I'm not 'elite' as a pvper. Hell, I couldn't even really be called a pvper. At most I messed around a bit in zone pvp before i12, so no offence taken.

The skill and talking about skill thing is interesting however. I don't know about pvp, but its certainly the case in pve that the more someone talks about how good they are, the more likely it is they're not actually very good. Might not be the case in pvp I suppose, due to it being much more competitive by its nature.

The best pve players I know/knew didn't spend a lot of time (if any) talking about how good they were. They were too busy being good

This is a pretty good point. Besides, I don't think that even before the pvp changes that the pvp population was big enough for there to be any real 'elite'.

I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet.
Remember everyone, you heard it here first: everyone who opts to play on the VIP server is an elitist.
  23. Very interesting.

Not entirely unexpected, given how the devs have realized how much money is in mictrotransactions.

Colour me cautiously optimistic. I am however very interested to see the playerbase reaction to all of this, it's pretty interesting psychologically.
  24. Haha, you made a trial account just for this? That's adorable :3
