I sincerely doubt that booster packs would be lost for any reason.

    Now What?

My thoughts... (too big to post here. I got carried away)

My deal breakers: Losing my friends and the names of my favourite toons, and my badges, Vet rewards and purchased packs.

I wouldn't wholly object to restarting a lot of my toons again, but I've worked hard for three years - and I want to keep the bulk of what I've paid for.
  7. A friend sent me a link that I think a few of you would be interested in seeing. Howver I don't think it's appropriate I posted the link here, so I'll let you check out my blog instead

Snickers is a much better name than if i recall correctly 'Marathon'. Makes you feel you need to run a ruddy marathon just to burn it off.
Not a big fan of Snickers bars anyway Milky Way ftw!

If it was still called Marathon we could shove them in peoples eyes and yell

it is odd in every other industry there would have been statements from upon high as to the offical reason for the job loses , and the offical line on what effects this will have ..

uless they are aware of our love of speculation

    [/ QUOTE ]

It would be wrong for anyone to announce to the wider world exactly what's happening, without firsts of all having resolved the issue internally.

My guess is that many staff will have been given a chance to assimilate the news, gauge their gut reaction to it and their next likely move and then liaise back. Only once they have done that will an official announce happen.

Sure, we want news, but it's important that those whose livelihoods are at risk be given a chance to react first. Our best reaction is to wait patiently and not to do or say anything too hasty.

Euro development jobs moved to US, confirms NCsoft

NCsoft has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that development positions in the UK are to be moved to North America.

Some 55 development staff were axed in Brighton today, leaving the remaining team to concentrate on European sales and marketing.

“The European office is transitioning to have a stronger focus in marketing and sales, with many of the existing disciplines being consolidated in our studios on the US West Coast and our headquarters in Seattle,” said a spokesperson for the company.

“Additionally, we are transitioning to an embedded quality assurance model in which the QA staff works in our studios directly with the development teams, providing support throughout the entire development process.”

The publisher said that as many as 90 employees across the group will be affected by the changes.

Some development and community roles may be recreated in Seattle and California said NCsoft, and there is also a possibility that the sales and marketing team in the UK will grow.

“In order to solidify and streamline company operations across all NCsoft West territories, we are implementing some structural changes which will impact 70 to 90 employees,” detailed the company. “We are working with these employees to determine the best fit for approximately 80 alternate positions within the company.”

It only affects missions which are available in Ouroboros (mission arcs mainly), and is an unfortunate side effect of some code added to stop people teaming with members of the opposing faction when members of the opposing faction aren't in the co-op zone.

  21. lol is that like a detuned decimation?
  22. I guess we should take a moment to hold fire.

We're all concerned because we're worried: We care about this game, this community and people we've come to know and like who help run the community.

This isn't necessarily NCSoft/NCWest's fault. If we have to point the finger then let's blame the [censored] who caused the credit crunch.

But let's also not assume too much. We're going to wind ourselves up with rumour, speculation and guesswork - to no good end. Let's not damn the management until they give us reason to. In times of global crisis they are going to want to get hold of every penny they can so they are unlikely to act irrationally for fear of [censored] us off. So if they have their wits about them, they'll look at this and decide how they can keep us happy and keep their income.

In short, however sad it is for those individuals who've lost their jobs, it'll do us no good to get in a tiswas - yet.

NC West cuts down European office

NCsoft has made 55 staff redundant at the Brighton office of NC West, as five internal departments are axed, following a similar cull last year when in-house development was halted.

GamesIndustry.biz understands that 30 staff will remain at the Brighton office to cover off sales, marketing and customer support functions, while localisation, creative services, IT, QA and community roles have been cut.

NCsoft Europe exec Geoff Heath has so far declined to comment.

The formation of NC West was announced last September in a bid to make the company's activities outside of Korea more profitable under one banner, and combined the US and European activities in a single entity.

Around 70 posts were lost then as the impact of failed Richard Garriott MMO Tabula Rasa hit the company's profits significantly.

It is not yet known if NC West in North America is affected by similar cuts to headcount.

UPDATE: More precise numbers have now been added to the story, as well as details on which departments have been axed. It was originally reported that around 70 jobs had been lost.

Besides, he's watched the panic caused by the ensuing official comments to be made later this week.
