  1. I was wondering, would this be a good farming character? It seems Ice Slick is awesome for farming to avoid getting hit, and Ice Sword Circle would take care of the minions pretty easily, especially with a bit of perma-loving going. I used to do this back in the Ice/Fire Tanker FotM days, and it seemed to work very well.

Just curious, as it seems like a great combo set. Any input on this?

Don't feel bad, Ardrea, I missed it too. I wanted to attend, but it completely skipped my mind.
  3. I have a Tech religious character in the game. I've seen Christianity mentioned in some of the story arcs, so I created Jesus Freak, a Freakshow that converted to Christianity. He's just a 'lay follower', so he has no divinely-inspired abilities (SS/WP Brute).

Note that he also has a Praetorian counterpart that was a Christian and tore away from it, a complete antithesis of the hero. It makes RP fun with those guys.

Magic is defined as coming from a power other than yourself, so it makes perfect sense for that regard. If you want to use a character from an established religion, do so respectfully if for no other reason than just ease of playing.

As a Christian IRL, I see no problem with people respectfully bringing in any other religions. My characters are not an outreach attempt, but simply a springboard for ideas, although they have inspired some conversations
  4. Hello, I thought I'd jump in and give a few of my bios. In my bios, I try to give the characters a sense of reality, having real-world problems in addition to their superheroic (or villainous) trials.

    * Roseheart, Lvl 50 Science Scrapper, Spines/SR

Bio: Rose MacLellan was a leading scientist at Crey Industries in the Bioengineering lab, charged with creating a supersoldier by combining human DNA with that of a plant. She was innocently caught in a sabotage attempt on Crey, and thus terminated.

At home, she eventually figured out the method of combining her DNA with that of a rosebush. Given the ability to sprout thorns from her body, she fought Crey at every turn and eventually arrested the Countess.

Roseheart found love along the way in a Freakshow convert named Krazeek, but was crushed when she found him dead. Her hopes restored, she has taken up contract to defend the Portal Corp grounds while fighting other large threats.

    -------------------------------

Jesus Freak, Lvl 22 Technology Defender, Empathy/Electric

Bio: Christopher Sallis has had an interesting life. He started out the child of a rich father in the dot com business, but hated possessions based on his father spoiling him.

In high school, Chris learned of a group known as the Freakshow who felt the way he did about money. He joined, and was later made a Chief Stunner, named Krazeek, and given electrical implants as his fame grew.

Later, as he was selling some stolen goods in Brickstown, he was arrested by a hero named Roseheart. She gave him the option of either being locked in prison or working under her to become a hero.

Inspired by her faith, Krazeek trained under her and learned to use his voltage to heal as well as to harm. He started on his career, but it was cut short when he was held hostage by Crey while they took vengeance on her.

Escaping them, Krazeek married Roseheart and continues to fight crime. He renamed himself Jesus Freak and now only seeks to blend into society once again.

    -------------------------------

Krazeek, Lvl 40 Technology Brute, SS/Electric

Bio: Krazeek was a Chief Juicer in the Freakshow, promised an upgrade to a tank by Dreck. However, Dreck sent him on a suicide mission to prove himself, and he was arrested and sent to the Zigursky prison.

This is what Krazeek claims, at least. In reality, he's the Praetorian version of the hero Jesus Freak.

Krazeek was a member of the Maimed (the Praetorian Freakshow), but fell in love with a lady who called herself Poisonthorn. She corrupted him to evil, and he became a notorious member of the Arian Conspiracy.

After attaining great power by conquering many Underground whom he once called brothers, he felt himself ready for more challenging targets. He traveled through a portal from the Gate Corporation to Paragon City.

The trip cost Krazeek much of his power, and he was easily defeated by Roseheart and Jesus Freak, and sent to the Zigursky prison. Escaping with the help of Arachnos, Krazeek plans to get his revenge by regaining his powers and killing his earthly posers.

    -------------------------------

Oblivion Probe, Lvl 22 Technology Mastermind, Bots/Dark

Bio: The Oblivion Probe was a robot created by Portal scientists to explore a plane of shadow. Equipped with various telemetry devices, the robot entered the portal on September 21st, 2001.

Just 5 weeks into the project, scientists lost contact with the probe, but had gathered enough information to consider the project a success. They deactivated the portal and returned to their research on other dimensions.

On April 19th, 2005, the portal went online despite the lack of a power source, and the probe emerged once again. The probe did irreperable damage in the carnage that followed, but a concentrated effort by Paragon's heroes shut it down and locked it in the Zigursky prison.

Due to the possessing spirit and the nanites, the Oblivion Probe awoke during a raid on the prison by Arachnos forces. It now does their dirty work in exchange for the life essence used to power the alien intelligence.

Any commentary is welcome on the above information. Roseheart does have a longer bio here if you want to check it out.

However, this thread is awesome, and some great advice that gave me insight on how to write up my characters' bios. Kudos, Stuttermonkey.
  5. Hello all,

After reading through this thread, there are some awesome ideas out there. However, I may get flamed for this, but I think there should be a different series of bonuses. Something like:

Socialite: 5% bonus to damage resistance in a team.
Loner: 5% bonus to experience when doing a full mission alone.
Scrounger: Finds more Salvage than normal.
Hunter: 10% bonus to Damage Resistance against a certain enemy type.
Quick Learner: Bonus to receiving enhancement or inspiration drops.
    etc....

You pick this first "Background power" at level 0 (character creation), and at level 10 you would get the first choice of your BGPP which has to be along the lines of the original background. At levels 20, 30, 40, and 50, you can choose other power pools or further enhance the one you originally chose.

Each of these enhancements would require a mission or story arc to accomplish. This would probably be a mission at level 10 (as most badge hunters have limited time), then progress to an arc of expanding length at 20, 30, 40, and 50.

Other than this minor change in implementation, I agree 100% with all ideas (except Merchant, which still doesn't agree with my anti-powergaming side).
  6. Hello all,

After reading a bit of this post, it seems I've been inadvertantly doing most of that. While I don't actively RP, I am a huge fan of bios and even more detail. Basically, what I'm asking is that you read Roseheart's bio and tell me what you think, or any Constructive criticism you might have.

For those of us who are curious, I plan to upload her extended, third-person bio to the CoH Writer's Guild when I get some of it done. While there, I'd recommend reading the bio of Iron Horse, it's awesome.
  7. Pretty nice guide, but I use a bit different of tactics. From the CoH Builder program, I have designed it as follows:

    01 : Twilight Grasp acc(01) hel(19) hel(19) hel(21)
    01 : Pulse Rifle Blast acc(01) dam(3) dam(5) dam(9) rng(21)
    02 : Pulse Rifle Burst acc(02) dam(3) dam(5) dam(9) rng(34)
    04 : Tar Patch recred(04)
    06 : Battle Drones acc(06) dam(7) dam(7) dam(15) damres(34) damres(37)
    08 : Equip Robot endred(08)
    10 : Combat Jumping endred(10) defbuf(11) defbuf(11) defbuf(15)
    12 : Protector Bots acc(12) dam(13) dam(13) dam(17) damres(37) damres(43)
    14 : Super Jump endred(14)
    16 : Shadow Fall endred(16) damres(34) damres(40) damres(17)
    18 : Swift runspd(18)
    20 : Acrobatics endred(20)
    22 : Health hel(22) hel(23) hel(23)
    24 : Stamina endrec(24) endrec(25) endrec(25)
    26 : Assault Bot acc(26) dam(27) dam(27) dam(29) damres(31) damres(31)
    28 : Petrifying Gaze acc(28) hlddur(29) hlddur(31) hlddur(33) recred(33) recred(33)
    30 : Kick (Fight) acc(30) dam(36) dam(36) dam(36)
    32 : Upgrade Robot endred(32)
    35 : Tough endred(35) damres(37) damres(42) damres(42)
    38 : Dark Servant acc(38) recred(39) recred(39) hlddur(39) hlddur(40) hel(40)
    41 : Weave endred(41) defbuf(42) defbuf(43) defbuf(43)

I like being part of the action, and play essentially a blaster until level 6. Kick also comes in handy to get baddies away from you quickly. Comments? Questions? Am I completely insane?
