Play if it's fun, stop if it isn't. In my mind there are no other options.

There are too many fun and interesting things to do and play in this lifetime to spend time doing something you find to be a drag, IMO.
MP, you seem to be in the period of your life where everything is all fun/positive. That is a great period in your life. Enjoy it for as long as you can :-)

This is official definition of Grinding so we can all be on the same page:

Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive and/or non-entertaining gameplay in order to gain access to other features within the game, or to allow the player to "grind" better/faster.[1][2] The most common usage is in the context of MMORPGs, such as Final Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft and Dragon Quest IX[3] in which it is often necessary for a character to repeatedly kill AI-controlled monsters, using basically the same strategy over and over again, in order to advance their character level to be able to access newer content. MUDs, generally sharing much of the same gameplay as MMORPGs, encounter the same syndrome. Grinding can also appear in other games in which features can be unlocked.
  3. What are you talking about? I just respeced 2 characters and I was able to change the animations when they were available and change the power illuminations/hues.

Silver Gale, casual means with limited time, ok?

And the best part of the reality is, the two facts aren't exclusive to one another at all.

GM's wrong, then. Stop fact checking me vs Lloyd (who's a nice guy) and just try it yourself. Sort by name, do a general search, note the first name on the list. Hit Search again. New list. Hit it again. Each time, look for that first name. You won't see it repeated 'til the list is exhausted and it starts over.

(EDIT: BTW, I didn't realize this for myself until @Master_Blade pointed it out to me a few months ago. Cheers, MB.)

    Turg,

I'm not fact checking you, we're having an important discussion here. I play this game a lot and I'm always searching for members. I get the same lists all the time. People send hate chat to me saying I just telled them 30 secs ago. I know this firsthand. I was just exploring to see if I was doing something wrong. I have done this on NA and EU servers.

Next, the globalids and friends list, this can't be more than 8-15 for each. Are you hiding yourself based on this small listing? I just don't understand why people would hide on servers unless everyone knows them(original, original vet). I know lately, because of the WST/WTF we have less time to socialize but if someone says hello to you they're not asking for your life story, right?

As I have posted many times recently, I just like killing bad guys. Personally, I do not focus on the rewards I am gaining while doing so, no do I focus overtly on the enemies I fight, although I do avoid a few enemy groups depending upon the weaknesses of the character and/or team.

The entire idea of 'grind' to me is actually kinda funny. I simply play the game, I get rewards, over time they add up and I get more powerful. Somehow, I call this playing the game and others call it a grind, using the term in some derogatory way, while I just have fun playing.

    *shrug*
    MajorPrankster likes to Grind :-)

The gulf between Alpha and the rest of the slots in terms of time investment is huge.
maybe I haven't read this correctly. I did the first 12 and I think there is another layer but they only require notices and some incarnate components. Are you talking about the new slots(Gravitic, Judgement, etc?) I'm halfway through the tier 2 alphas now playing weekly with 1 weekend a month dedicated to CoH. I have changed my strategy though, I'm not trying to get all the slots because you can shortcut and get to the top with less steps on tier two. Frankly because of the notices, I can't really see past the tier 2 right now. I think by the end of May I'll have enough shards but the notices I won't have until July/Aug. The notices and favors are my bottleneck right now. The shards I could brute force if I had to.
  8. When I did the Alpha slots, I focused on the shards but now I just play the game and do a few creates every other week. This ordeal is becoming more complex though. The next level requires alpha slots to create them and this muddies the waters to incarnate. Sometimes, I feel like I"m just killing time.

    There are other options:

    1. Breakdown the notices and favors.
    2. Learn to farm the LGTF and make lots of friends to do it.
(get vg merits and shards - the tf for the incarnate serious)

This is so far beyond the pale of what a level 19 can do that I find it almost funny.
Sometimes you have to abort a mission and move on. I helped a guy once do an incarnate mish. In the final fight with the Rikti and the Honoree, we had over 300 Rikti spawn in the final chamber. It was ridiculous. We slugged it out over an afternoon but the original user said this was why he finally requested teammates :-) He tried it solo for the previous 30 days with no success. Every time we died and hospitaled or ran down the hallway to recharge, 20 were added. I had record holds that day 25-50 every grab.

The GM's told me to contact the chat admins and ask them if they are managing inactive users. he's getting the list for Freedom now.

the GM's say that won't work. I've tried that too. They said you have to change search criteria.

    GM LLOYD

You'll have to add more search criteria and narrow your search. Currently there is no option to continue displaying all the characters that fit broad search criteria after the display limit is reached.

Praetoria is viciously difficult to solo. I find this to be dangerous in that I don't want the rest of CoX to follow suit with new content. I am in fact leaving the Distinguished Competition over this exact issue: unsoloable [and often badly bugged] content. I really like my characters over there but I find extreme hassle to be the opposite of fun. Nor do I like being locked in a room with an Elite Boss and my recharge/regen STOPPED, yes I said literally STOPPED, but that's another game thank you God.

I can't say it enough: I don't want that developer mindset in CoX. Praetoria has it in plenty and let's us not slide down that slippery slope.
you just said it. Level 19. After a certain level the mobs are enormous. I did that mish recently with no problems with a team and we didn't face 30-50 vanessa's

If your going to DCUO, you'll be back :-)

the system has a limit on the friends, it's not very many at all. Is there another way to add them? Is the global friend and friend list different?

No one's really begrudged me for it, and vice versa.
Interesting. I tried to use the boards but so many of the players don't consult or plan their gaming that I have to PUG during the game. Sadly, because of the search tools, I get the same people when I do a search. Is there a way to have the next set of results come up?

The enemies are overdesigned for the level range they're in. There's too much kryptonite in there and you don't tend to have a Plan B available at that range because you don't have all your tools yet.
Are you soloing content? I did prae content with teams and it was challenging in the underground but above I had no problems with it.
Also, is the AI different for Prae. I thought I read something about Prae having new dev engineering/features.

I did read this but are they going to "create" a theme song for the show? I will not watch Wonder Woman kicking off to "One Way or Another!" Frack!!

When I play, I do the things I intend to do. If I'm looking for a team, I'll broadcast in my global channels and get one rolling. If I want to solo, I don't have to worry about responding to or ignoring tells from people. I don't waste their time by letting them see me and send the message in the first place.
This is interesting hearing this. I never get spam. I used to get it when I first joined the game but now I never get it. I do get the broadcast spam that everyone else gets. I wonder if your "friends" or SG members are spamming you?

Thanks Turg, I was thinking about this and last week I had players on my team telling me to add people I just couldn't find. The hidden status must of been the cause.

Do people tell you asking you to give recommendations for builds and paragon stuff during the game? I just alt tab and look it up. That's weird.
  20. I read about all of you complaining but we have not had any real contact with the "Players" in Praetoria yet. Tyrant, Anti-Matter, Black Swan, Chimera, Diablique, Dominatrix, Spectra II, Infernal. I could go on....

Give it a chance people. The content we have rec'ved has been level 1-20 not 30-50. Your comments are thoughtless.
  21. It's a grind if you try to do all at once...

If your a soloist, then it is always definitely a grind. If your a team player, it depends on who you play with. Lately I'm getting such fantastic drops, I can't play enough. I hope by the end of next month I'll have 2 complete sets of purples that I will promptly put up for sale on the markets :-)

Thanks for the post, TrueGentleman. I'm posting the details for the benefit of our readers:

Speaking of inviting scrutiny: Wonder Woman. Why did you decide to take this on?
Well I first said no, for all the obvious reasons. It’s not really what I do; it’s not a genre that’s in my wheelhouse. But then I started thinking about, What if there were such a person in today’s world and what must it be like to be her? And I was imagining the sense of social isolation that she must feel, that she indeed would probably be a rather complicated beast. When I started thinking about all the complications and potential layers to this superhero, I just got more and more intrigued. It was also something I was a little bit afraid of. That’s good, too. Any writer should get out of his or her comfort zone, and this was way outside of mine.
So I took a deep breath and decided to go for it. I did not truthfully commit to doing it until I wrote the script. I was going to try writing it, and if I failed on my own terms, I would say no. If I thought, Yeah, this is something I believe in, then I’d turn it in. And it was something I ultimately did get behind. It was hard, but I had a good time writing it. And Warner Bros. and DC both responded very positively — and off we went.

Then you had to find your Wonder Woman.
It was not an easy search, but it went far quicker than I ever imagined. After writing this script, I remember looking at several people and going, "Yeah, now good luck trying to find her." She’s got to be strong, smart, emotionally accessible — and oh yeah, an Amazon! Good luck. I remember speaking to DC, and saying, "We may have to compromise on the physicality. We need to go with the best actress. And if the best actress is five-foot-five, we have to be open to that, because there’s too many layers for this character to also demand that she be nearly six feet tall." And then lo and behold, in comes this girl named Adrianne Palicki.
I had seen her on Friday Night Lights and I always liked her work, but I didn’t get a sense of her stature. I guess he was sitting down in a lot of the scenes. So she stood up, and we met — eyeball to eyeball — she smiled ... and I knew during the course of the conversation that this was Wonder Woman. I just knew it. I had an instinctive feeling that this was her. So then she read. And she was. And she is.
