Yeah. I'm having a hard time seeing that too! (Normally, I'm still sound asleep at that time!)

Oh and while the time had been talked about, I didn't recall seeing agreement on that. I recall questions about when things start on Saturday so that decisions could be made. So... I asked someone who I thought might know, or might be able to find out for me. Fortunately, he did have the info! If only I had thougth far enough ahead to make note of the ENTIRE Con schedule to make unofficial event planning easier.

  2. Handy link to Frog's Live Mission Team thread

I figured I'd link this here because after asking a buddy, I found that Registration & LMT sign-ups start about 9AM. Since I don't get the sense that we've settled on a time for bacon-waffles yet, I figured I'd provide that information to see if it helps. Now if folks have already picked up their registration stuff on Friday & have teams already organized & possibly signed up Friday, the back by 9AM is not so crucial. Whereas if they haven't then it might be more important. Maybe organize carpools along those lines?

Any luck talking to anyone at Holder's Frog? If not, I can give it a shot & see if there's anything that can be done to make it easy on us and on Holder's.

I haven't shipped anything, and want to make sure there's no disappointment over a misunderstanding (which is hopefully on my part, being a lunk-head & all.)

As for providing the information, I'm glad to do it, as it would be a shame for folks not be be able to get Fred's if they REALLY want it.

You need to be more persistent.
Also, get ready for sticker shock.

Technically what you are being told is true.
However, unless things have changed, they do provide boxes for shipping, but you need to make arrangements with one of the 3rd party shipping outfits to do the actual shipping. One of these two groups provides the dry ice, I don't know which, but what matters is one does.

So, if you REALLY want Fred's, here's how I recall doing it. When I called, I let them know I wanted to get some Fred's shipped to some friends out of state. I was told that they don't ship, but that they can provide boxes for shipping the Fred's (I think there's just one size & since shipping is so costly, I ordered as many steaks as would fit in the box to make it worthwhile) & then I would have to make the arrangements for shipping myself. I asked if there was a shipping outfit they could recommend, or had worked with in the past & was given the number to one. I then ordered the steaks for pickup by the named outfit. I then called up the number provided (wish I could provide the name & number but since I wasn't expecting to repeat, I wasn't good about keeping the information.) They laid out the pricing, I agreed to it, paid by credit card & they took care of the rest.

FYI there are three grades for Fred's.
I forget what they call them, but I will refer to them as regular, premium, & Kobe. I got a Kobe Fred's for a friend's birthday (it was some milestone, or at least that's what I told myself to justify the expense) & OMG!!! If you thought regular Fred's was awesome... Kobe Fred's...

    *drools*

    *shakes self out of trance*

    *cleans self up*

That said, it's also pretty darn pricey & definitely something to be saved for very special occasions.

    Saratoga restaurant phone #: (408) 378-6022
Link to their website (to ensure you can get/check for the right number):

Also, good place to go if you're looking for the address to feed into a GPS or site for directions. (Or if you want to peruse the menu if bacon waffles aren't for you!) One thing to note, they don't list sides like hashbrowns or bacon or sausage on the menu, but if you ask, they'll get it to you. I'm not sure why that is, but I'm glad I can still get the extas even if I'm not sure how much it'll cost me.

Sorry no. This had fallen off my radar (it's an old & unreliable radar) & so I haven't been setting aside funds for a trip. (splurging at Hero-Con) Heck I don't even have real luggage, because I haven't needed to make a trip by air in so long (Pre-9/11). If this is going to be a regular thing, then I'll look at getting ready for next year!

So RG, please disregard my earlier disregard and please add two more to the list!

Also, we'll be driving from Sac and can offer carpooling for 2-3 people (depending on how cozy folks can get).

Anywho... change made & it looks like the count's up to 41 unless I missed someone. Again. I never did hear if Kalita planned on making it to the dinner or was just saying hi & seeya at the Con. I need clear indications because I'm no good at this interpreting comments-in-passing stuff. (That's my story & I'm sticking to it!)

EDIT: I heard back from Avatea and she says the schedule should be posted soon. She also said that if we can finish breakfast by 9:00, we should be fine. But she wasn't specific, so I don't know if that means registration opens at 9:00, the store opens at 9:00, or panels start at 9:00.

Either way, sounds like we might be in for some early mornings. I'm afraid I might see Karo drink Mountain Dew for breakfast again! I sense tears coming from the East Coasters.
One of the awesome things about Holder's is that everything on the menu is served all day. So... if an early "breakfast" is too hard on our friends from the other coast, we can hit Holder's for "lunch" and still enjoy the bacon-waffley(or other scrumptious concotion) goodness. Or go Sunday.

But yeah... know when things are happening would be good. *wonders how Avatea feels about repeated poking?*

Well... I don't think we've figured out a time yet, so folks should start mentioning times they'd like to leave the hotel. And lsimilar to Darkbridger's Saturday matinee's we can always make a new team if needed.

I'll start off with early & unlikely just to give us a starting point!
How's 8AM sound! From what I remember, it may be crowded at this time.

I just thought it would be good to ask in case you missed my reply.

Anyway, definitely looking forward to seeing you all at the dinner! The last one looked like a lot of fun so I don't want to miss this one!
    Oops. Sorry about that Mek.
    Adding now.

Oh and if that doesn't work out I've been meaning to say that I have space for another. If you can catcha ride from Karo's dad, I can give a ride to teh other person that I recall saying they needed one. I'll have to go back through the thread to see who that was.

My hula school makes similar courtesy calls whenever we eat at restaurants during our outings (I think they call a day or two before). Even those restaurants that insist that they will not take reservations are usually more than happy to make accommodations when they hear that the group is going to be *really* large.
    Well...

That begs the question, who's going? Time for a new bacon waffle-icious thread???

Agreed. Since the hotel is so close to home, I opted to skip getting a hotel room this time around & will need to know when to show up.

Now some folks have found where specific times for when the events are taking place & I figure that will likely be our best guide, but my search-fu is weak. HALP!!!

Also... FYI the Holder's on Saratoga tends to get busy, especially on the weekends. I think the reason we were able to be seated as easily as we were last time was because we hit them after the breakfast rush & got there about brunch o'clock (I think most of us got there around 10-11AM). The down-side would be missing out on whatever might be scheduled at that time.

Yes I did! Though... someone at another table asked the waiter if he could warm up some maple syrup for him. THAT sounded like it would be awesome on the bacon waffle! I think I'm going to have to remember that for Saturday the 24th!

The service engineer decided to try it the way they serve it just to see what it's like. He has decided I'm no help at all with regard to his efforts to lose weight!

Just had a bacon waffle for lunch today! I "had" to take the service engineer that came in to fix the microscope carrier over to Holder's because I made him hungry for them the last time he was here!

I should be ready for another in a few weeks!
  22. OK, per the requests, I've rolled the start time back to the originally planned 5:30pm. I've made the change in every post of mine I could find so that anyone going back will see it as 5:30pm, so hopefully no one will get confused.

Also, I've asked if the meatballs could be served on the side to accomodate anyone with vegetarian sensibilites. The up-side to this is you won't have to try to carve up the ginormous mega-meatballs on the spaghetti & risk spaghetti sploosh! You might just get sauce sploosh if the meatballs are served in/covered with sauce.

Oh I enjoy the game as well, but it does tend to run long & I was just pointing out other games can wrap up in a couple of hours & so if some folks miss the beginning of the gaming, they could get in on a later starting game.

    Try THAT with Civilization!

BTW if you hadn't tried it, IIRC "Age on Renaissance" plays much like "Civilization" but can come to a conclusion quicker. You might be able to get a group together more often for that. A bunch of buddies & I used to get together every New Year's Eve for a game of Civilization. It was the only time we could find when everyone could afford the time!

So folks aren't concerned about picking up their badges early? That was the reason I pushed the dinner out until 6pm, that and to give the Star Trek Exhibition crowd plenty of time to putter around. Granted, you could still pick up your badge/register on Saturday, but then you'd have to make a decision about going to Holders, picking up your badge, and whatever temptation the Con organizers have Saturday morning!

I have not yet given the thumbs up on the reservation/order (just got the confirmation/approval e-mail yesterday) so I'll wait until Monday for feedback.

P.S. I just want to say the organizers are evil making us choose like this!!!

As long as they don't choose board games like Civilization I think you'll be ok!
