Newsflash: Servers have limitations!
Of course it's the Devs fault for letting people transfer to Freedom. Always their fault, innit?
They're out to get you!!! -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
So because you choose to play on a high population server you would rather they did what exactly, have them lock all servers if they need to lock Freedom and Virtue so it would be fair to you?
Please, believe it or not the world revolves around the sun, not you.
[/ QUOTE ]
neither does it revolve around the chosen who get to log in and play, but they are getting all the benefits while I (hypothetically) get none. Your suggestion that I think the world revolves around me is uncalled for. I simply asking for the same privledges and benefits that other paying player get. If I can't, due to system limitations, get the same benefits through playing, then I should be awarded them in some other way.
I intentionally left out (c) and (d) because they were irrelevant. The basic point of Section 10 is this:
"it's not our fault if you can't get in".
It IS however, their fault if they selectively choose who gets in. I still do not believe the EULA covers that.
If I pay $15 per month and you pay $15 per month and they give you a gold star, then I damn well better get a gold star, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
But you do have the same options every other paying customer has. You can log in and play... you just have to do it before it fills up.
Seriously now, this isn't rocket science. Servers have finite limitations. You need to recognize this fact. If you don't like the possibility of being locked out of the game's busiest servers, then may I recommend transferring to a different server altogether?
You have have been provided the same options and "rights" as every other player. -

With that in mind, we want to let you know that it may become necessary for us to lock servers should they reach player counts that result in a degradation in performance.
[/ QUOTE ]
Honestly? I hope this happens ... because then, that event can be pointed at the next time someone complains about dead servers, and asks for server mergers.
[/ QUOTE ]
What will you point to if the two busiest servers get greyed out (which is to be expected), yet the servers people complain about being dead still only have one light?
[/ QUOTE ]
That you don't have access to their internal numbers and you can't go by the server load icons?
Last 2xXP weekend, every server had two yellow icons while F&V had three red. If many of them only have one green icon this weekend, that could just mean the new server load capacity has increased, not necessarily that there are less players.
True story: In the early days of CoH, when I saw three red icons, I thought that meant the server was unavailable (and not just under heavy load) and didn't log it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah nuts, I forgot that's what the load icons are for. Honest mistake though. Those load icons are a pretty good indicator that the server has a higher, active population. It only makes sense. Anyway, maybe I should rephras...
What if the player population on the oft-cited "dead servers" is still low during the dbl xp weekend? Even when two of the top servers are locked out?
All I'm saying is that a couple of locked servers isn't any more of an indication that allserver populations are "fine" than someone playing CoV on Pinnacle at 2am on a Tuesday is an indicator that some servers are dead.
Seeing how none of us have access to "internal numbers," nobody can make any definitive statement about the position. All we have to go on is anecdotal evidence on both sides.
Personally, I'd like to see a completely serverless configuration. That way, all of these arguments can go away and everyone can have an easier time of landing a team. -

As an avid PvPer, I'm sure black_barrier is buffed to the gills with Accuracy and ToHit buffs. It's somewhat ironic that he misses the point so much.
Watching people put feet in their mouths is always entertaining. -
[ QUOTE ]
*Note* This ignores the statistical "bump" that was CoV's release and fall off a few months later. My comments are based on activity levels on Test and on Freedom.
[/ QUOTE ]
That brings up another huge problem. The PvP population feels obligated to use the temporary testing server in order to get any substantive PvP action, while only one Live server has any regular PvP action on it.
Not to mention that most of the AT/powerset discrimination and "loot" issues are magnified tenfold in the Test environment. Not knocking or supporting it, that's just the reality of it.
Why no one sees this as a massive fustercluck is beyond me.
Cross-server PvP should be one of the main focus areas, IMO. -

[ QUOTE ]
This mental segregation is foolish.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, it's not. And I'd thank you not to so offhandedly dismiss my opinion with insults. It's not foolish. In fact, it's one of the major philosophies in this game when it comes to PvP. PvEers who don't like PvP at all should not ever even have to see it. They should be able to go about their business and not have to confront more than the most basic indications that it even exists in this game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, it's exactly these type of people that are a large part of the problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
And? If someone doesn't want to PvP, that's their choice. Get over it. Let them do what they want and you do what you want. I have no interest in PvP. I don't need incentives dangled in front of me, it won't make any difference. I don't need it waved in front of my face, that will only annoy me. And I -DEFINITELY- don't need the hostility in /broadcast that is almost always present where PvP is present.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll assume your defensive tone means you don't get my point.
It's only "waved in front of your face" if you want it to be. That is my point. Nobody needs Shivans. Nobody needs badges. Nobody needs Warburg nukes. You don't ever have to engage in PvP of any kind ever in order to keep on enjoying the game as is. It's always been this way and will likely never change. Unfortunately, there are some very outspoken "PvErs" that hate this and go out of their way to rant and complain... and often go to PvP zones often times initiating the Broadcast obscenities... even though they could easily avoid it entirely if they chose to.
Unless you're a villain looking for a couple accolades, but that doesn't actually even require any PvP.
The OP's suggestions don't change any of this. You still don't have to go into these zones (or the Arena) ever, for any reason. None of these suggestions "wave PvP in front of your face."
The PvP experience could be improved for those that do enjoy it, while those that abhor it can continue on with business as usual.
If anything, they make it easier for Villains to get their accolades by not subjecting them to surprised ganks when they go for that exploration badge. -

Fess up; you made an assumption about the post before you even did more than glance at it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. I read a well thought-out post, contianing a lot of creative ideas ... one of which is one I think should never, under any circumstances, happen: being PvP-immune in a PvP zone. In response to that - as I do any time the idea is brought up, no matter by who - I popped out that standard response.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you'd have been better off amending your 'standard response" so it actually makes sense in context.
You're usually a lot smarter about your posts, Pax. I mean that as a compliment, really, even though I disagree with you most of the time. However, I can't help but think you didn't fully comprehend the point and reason for the suggestion. Simply passing it off as a "STUPID IDEA" just makes you come off as a little kid with his fingers in his ears screaming "Can't hear you!!"
Your cut/paste standard response just isn't cutting it one this one. Not to mention the complete irrelevance most of it had. -

Nope, I have 7 non PL 50s now.. If it was so hard to level I would imagine I wouldnt have any.. or maybe one.
I am also baffled by the smoothing the exp thing.

[/ QUOTE ]
I love soul transfer. If you absolutely need to change it for the people that don't like soul transfer, allow it to be castable while you are still alive. Probably won't find many people who would argue too much with that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Noooo! Then I'd have to find a way to squeeze it back in! -

[ QUOTE ]
This will give people a good lesson about badges. Trying to get every single badge is folly. And, in my opinion, it trivializes the badges. Badges both in game and RL are supposed to represent achievement, not doing repetitive boring things. The analogy Arcana made to loot is shown to be even more specious. I don't deny people do boring things for loot, but they do them because they want their character to be stronger. That's not what badges are supposed to represent.
[/ QUOTE ]
Badges and loot are virtually identical. Just another thing to wave while shouting "look at me". You can kid yourself that you are just "improving" your character if you like, but its all the same.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless you're talking about Accolades, then no... badges and loot are not the same. They are similar in that they are both eagerly sought after, used for bragging rights and difficult to obtain, but that's where the similarity ends.
You're kidding yourself if you can't comprehend the difference. -

I am calling for an end to this discrimination against we, the haberdasherly-challenged!
[/ QUOTE ]
Umm...
A haberdasher makes hats, not pants.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, a haberdasher makes nothing ... but sells ALL sorts of men's clothing accoutrements. Cufflinks, ties, socks, belts, undergarments, wallets, gloves, shirts, coats, pants ... if it's men's clothing, a haberdasher sells it. Don't believe me? Well, check for yourself ...!

At this point, any additional freebies they give out will go to everyone. I highly doubt they'd give a whole new freebie to "people who paid" while giving nothing more to those that didn't. That just doesn't make any sense.
That said, we are all getting a bunch of other stuff. Debt wipe, Prestige and some "secret" feature.
What exactly IS it you're asking for? I just don't get the gripe.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure it does.
As Emnity has pointed out: they want to encourage people to "buy early, buy often". An incentive to do so, or at this very after-the-fact juncture reward for having done so, makes 100% perfect sense.
As for what I'm alsking for? Those people who, in their account management screen, have an entry for COV and an entry for COH (or, an entry for a full-version GVE) ... get some minor token of apppreciation, for having been an "early adopter" of their products.
Not just now, but EVER. (Hey, if someone had just COH, gets access, and decides they want the GVE goodies ... why not encourage them to buy the FULL version, rather than just a "goodies code" ... by dangling an extra badge in front of them?)
[/ QUOTE ]
I see the POV I s'pose. Though I don't really think it's a big deal or even worth the effort, but that's just a difference in opinion.
So, it makes sense. I'll concede that. I just don't think it's very likely. If they can do it, then I wouldn't complain... or care, really. -

I think alot of those feeling ripped off are the same ones who are angry about vet rewards, or have the entitalment attidue.
[/ QUOTE ]
"Maybe if we just keep chanting the words "angry" and "entitled" it will stick...."
I didn't see what was angry or entitled about supporting buying incentives, especially when they don't in any fashion interefere with any other incentives.
But I think it's cute that people are trying so hard to avoid having to think about it in any terms that don't involve a simple-minded generalization.
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's a simple-minded generalization for you:
Anyone complaining they're not getting bribed enough to stick with the game at this point is a greedy schmuck.
That should be clear enough, yes? Certainly more honest than begging for "buyer's incentives".
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's anotehr one for you:
Anyone who grossly mischaracterises "Hey, um, remember us? the guys who bought your stuff way back when, thus enabling you to be paid (and clothed, and fed,and housed) betwixt then and now ...? Could we, um, maybe have a token shiny-bit or two, now that you're just giving half of the game away to people?" as being complaining that we're not being bribed enough, is a low-intelligence, no-account, worthless troll.
There; that should feel about as offensive to you, as your gross mischaracterisation feels to me.
[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, and some of you may even feel that I am being a greedy [censored] for asking this.. but I see that people who don't own both games will be granted access to the other... well thats all well and fine..
... but what about those of us.. who, like myself, bought CoV when it launched. I spent $80 on the Collector's DvD Edition.. granted I know I will never see a penny of that back from you guys.. but frankly I'm not all that into CoV..
Had I known then, what I know now. That you would offer me the features from CoV.. I would have saved myself $80..
What it seems like is you're saying,
[ QUOTE ]
"Hey! you don't own X .. Well here, now you do." ... "and you.. oh.. you've already got both games.. well I guess you're SOL.."
[/ QUOTE ]
Does anyone else see how unfair this is ? I'm seriously feeling unappreciated here..
A thought grossed my mind, of giving everyone who owns both games, a free month of game play.. but I can see where that might be.. expensive on your end..
[/ QUOTE ]
Look at it this way: You paid to have access to CoV and bases two years earlier than everyone else.
Really though, you don't get money returned to you when stores have a sale or discount on items you've previously purchased. You don't get reimbursed when the same store has "free give-away" day. You bought the item TWO YEARS AGO. Think about it seriously now. -

But if I ever once - ONCE - smell "raid"; I quit. End of discussion.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is exactly what I'd like to see more of. We just need more stuff to do. The real prob imho with raids in other games has been the loot tables and not everyone getting something. CoX doesn't have that prob. Everyone that participates in a raid gets the payoff. So I say bring more raids please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? What % of the population is doing Hami raids? What about the LRSF and STF? I'm betting the % is even smaller than even I expect.
Why waste time on events that the majority don't find fun?
[/ QUOTE ]
How about making them fun?
Improving the Raid experience is only one of many things they could add to the game to increase it's overall appeal. I see no reason to torch the "Raids" idea to the ground because they aren't as popular as fairy wings, renewable temp powers or yet another alt.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll compromise with ya. If they can make the 3 end game raids remotely fun, I'll back future new raids. Fair enough?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hamidon... RWZ... what is the third raid I'm missing?
Can't speak for the new Hamidon as I haven't done it, but I find the RWZ to be a lot of fun. Seems a lot of people, particularly on my server, do as well. -

I feel abandoned by Cryptic. This is my favorite MMO/Game in the world. It was their "baby" figuratively. *spelling errors
And they just gave it away
Gimme a cookie, tell me that because NC has my CoX that we will now get more character slots soon.

So I just bought both versions of the game...does this mean that I wasted my money and if I had waited a week, I could have paid half as much?
Fabulous!
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. I am really pissed about this, there needs to be some form of compensation for those who did buy both games. Like maybe a free month or2 or something because this is totally unfair to those who spent their hard earned money on both games.
[/ QUOTE ]
There doesn't need to be any kind of compensation. You got to play the game for the time period between when you bought it and when it became free. You aren't entitled to anything else.
You aren't entitled to the game always being gated by money. I really don't see the basis for this argument.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. This is a serious NON-issue. Do people who bought it recently (i.e. last 1-2 months) have the right to be annoyed? Sure they do, but they certainly aren't entitled to anything.
I have a friend who bought an 80GB iPod w/video for $400 literally one week before Apple announced the new Classic iPods, which offered the same iPod in 160GB format for THE SAME PRICE. Boy, was he ticked. He wasn't entitled to a damn thing either. Sometimes, that's the way the market works folks.
Anyone complaining about buying the game two years ago needs to be slapped with a common sense stick. You've had the game FOR TWO YEARS!!! You most certainly are NOT entitled to compensation. Use your damn brain guys...
Got nothin' but tough love for ya.
