Update!
On a completely different, and rather sad note. The last box of Mac and cheese in my house came packaged without the cheese sauce mix.
Anyway, thanks for looking. -

Haven't posted anything in a while.
This is my very first coloring with a Digital Tablet. I got to say, this is a hell of a lot easier then a mouse. All of my colors were done in one layer rather then several....love it.
Thank you so much! (you know who you are)
Art by Dale Keown, my colors. About 3hrs of Work.

Well, I'm sure most of you are still enjoying the double xp weekend right now, but I wanted to take some time out to say...
I finally hit 50!! Woot Woot!
And in honor of such, I gave ol' Juggy here a new pic.
Wow, now I wonder which alt I'll work on next (?)

Gratz Juggy, that's my favorite picture of him also. Great job! -

Man that is looking so good Forge. I'm sure your taking a break from it due to the Weekend but dam that looks nifty.

Glad your likin' it bro! Too bad your not on Infinity, my scrappers almost your level now. And yeah, I am taking a very brief Hiatus for the weekend but I'll be back. -

A tip ( if I may ), instead of using the dodge/burn combo (we all start with), I suggest you choose a color shade either darker or lighter (depending on if you are shading or highlighting) and use one of two approaches:
1- lay down that new selected color in the area you want to affect without trying to meld it into the existing color. Come back and use the smudge tool to blend the edge. (This is the base of the recommended approach used by much better colorists than I [read Veikira])
2- Paint that color on with a transparency of 90% for lighter colors and 95-98% for darker colors. This is what I have a tendency to use. Takes a little longer but you see the color come in and you can adjust as you lay it down. Finish off with the smudge tool to even everything out (because this has a tendency to leave some uneveness)
3- Combine these 2 ... (my next step) which I think would give even better results (for me).
Just a suggestion ... but you are doing great and its looking very nice.

This is excellent advice! I may go back a try to do the skin tone again based just on what you said. I have never messed with the smudge tool! Unfortunately I have the head so far along now.
I wish I would have seen you post sooner. Ahh well, like I said, I may redo it anyway now.
Update -
hehe, and off to school I go! Very small update on the face but I am postinganyway as it's taken a good bit of time to do. This is definately a learning process here. All in all I am pleased with it so far but it still has a very patched of maybe blotchy feel to it? It's tough to paint with the burn tool and keep things looking smooth but it's going ok I guess. If anyone has advice on this part please don't be shy.

Oh yeah! All that's coming. -
PAHMP JOO AHP!
So here's the costume. Again I took a few liberties with his outfit. I know this isn't exactly how you made him Mr. A. Thing is, this is exactly what I see in my mind's eye everytime I think of Mr. Awesome. Is it ok with you if I go with this? I assure you that if you want me to stay totally true to his outfit it won't hurt my feelings a bit. Lemme know bro. -
Heyhey!
Sorry for the slow updates on this one but I was going really fast on the others anyway. Don't want to not have fun doing these (how's that for a double negative!).
Here's the latest!
Costume next! Thanks for looking. -
Just a small update tonight. Perhaps more later if I can get the time. It's interesting to me to see the inks coming out on him. When I decided on the reference shot I was excited because of the high detail in the pic. I thought I would be adding all sorts of lines to the physique to express that detail. Strangely I am not. The additional lines don't seem needed really. I do plan on letting the colors carry a good bit of the details. I am learning so much with these. It used to be that I only really had great admiration for pencillers in comics. Now I have a whole new level of admiration and respect for inkers and colorists and how necessary they are to complete a well rounded image. Anyway.
Update!

OK this doesn't look like much of an update but I am posting because I want your feedback please.
It's VERY important to me to get the face on this correct. This character is well known for his shining smile. Like I said faces are tough for me but this is finally coming together. it's not right though. He needs to look genuinely thrilled. When I first started he looked completely unhinged. Joker couldn't look this bonkers. He's improved now but I still kinda think he might try to bite you at a barbeque.
Any and I'll critcisms appreciated. It is OK if he looks a bit overzealous. I just don't want him scaring children.

Hi Forum goers!
I'm gonna give it another go
Every artist has strong areas. The really good artists have no areas that are weak. I have tons of weak areas. Legs, hands, faces, anatomy in general,females...yes females are a weakness for me. Kryptonite I tell ya!
The drawings I have been doing have really forced me to work on my weak spots. Unless of course you want a completely disembodied torso without a head I pretty much have to hehe.
Which brings me to my next attempt. I really wanted to do something that was easy and played to what I think are my stronger areas. I like to start off with some kind of refernce as it's kind of tough for me to create dynamic looking poses from scratch, so off I went to buy the latest issue of Flex Magazine. Great place to get detailed heroic anatomy for sure. Then it was just left to decide who to draw and what pose to use.
I searched and searched and, while I found many amazing shots, nothing really leapt off the page at me to say "This is IT!".
Then as I neared the back of the issue, INSPIRATION!
Now if I could only remember who this reminds me of.....

Aaaand...
We're back!
Lot's of good worktime today. I was off and was able to finish this piece. I really happy with how it turned out. After the colors were done I grabbed a screenie from King's Row to use as the background. I got to fall back on my wallpaper skills from that point on and it made the whole thing a lot less stressful. In the past month you guys have been witness to the first three pieces I have actually drawn in over 10 years. I am very thankful to all of you for being so supportive. It has meant a great deal to me to receive all the positive feedback and critiques.
Thank you.
But enough about that.
Here's the figure completed.
Speedy
Here's the finished product with background. This file is big though and if it takes to long to load skip to the next ones. There essentially the same.
Speedy Hi-Res
Here's two desktop wallpapers of the same scene.
Speedy 1600 x 1200
Speedy 1280 x 1024
Finally these are two close up wallpapers
Speedy Close-up 1600 x 1200

I hope you like them Speedy. I had the best time doing this. Thanks again.
I'm gonna go play my scrapper now! -

He's striving and driving and hugging the curves!
Here's tonight's update. Coming along nicely. The big (or maybe not so big) change here is that I have dropped the bright highlights. I started with two layers of highlights. A more subtle layer and a bright layer on top of those. Highlights are a challenge for me. Looking at the bright highlights I felt it really made the suit look rubbery. I had a similar problem with the Powerforge piece as well. I dropped them here altogether because I think my coloring underneath is much stronger this time.
Thanks for looking.
