Interesting. So one(or a few even) scientist questioned another scientist's methods and results. I can't believe this would happen.

Great screenies. I wish I had gotten a screenshot of my friend rounding up ALL the AVs in that mish with his stone tank and me dropping RoA onto them all. MUAHAHAHA

Funny story about Secret of Nimh. When I was a weee lad I had a cowboy hat that I wore (I do live in Texas ya know). My dad took me to see Secret of Nimh and there was a bomb threat (Crazy 80s!). Well in the rush I left my hat. I cried and cried until an awesome fireman went in and saved my hat for me. The bomb threat was some jerk that didn't want to work that day, but my dream of becoming a fireman began there.... and ended years later thanks to a couple of trampolines and hyper extension of my knees.

*drinks beer #5* yep that's what I thought. *buuurrrpp*

Wow those are great additions to your collection GQ.
Is that "Reepacheap" leading the charge? I wonder if he got sucked into a tree in Narnia somewhere?
I really wish we could customize our MM henchmen! -
What Lothic just said is basically what I am trying to convey, just obviously much better than I could. Giving "something" a name does not make it real. If all we do is accept it then fine but that still doesn't make it undeniable fact.
I did read the Wiki info on Dark Matter. Now my head hurts and I must drink copious amounts of beer. Basically there is something out "there" that as yet can't be explained, so 'they" named it and are in the process of trying to falsify it. Until "they" figure out what it's made of then it's just like Q said, a place holder.
Heck I've forgotten my point by now... Oh well here's to Dark Matter/Energy! Cheers! -
scientist (ˈsaɪəntɪst) n a person who studies or practises any of the sciences or who uses scientific methods
scientific method noun a method of research in which a problem is identified, relevant data are gathered, a hypothesis is formulated from these data, and the hypothesis is empirically tested.
scientific theory noun a theory that explains scientific observations; "scientific theories must be falsifiable"
I did not mean to imply that what scientists do is passable or laughable. I am only pointing out that there is an opposing view here and to insist otherwise is just being stubborn. Which is the EXACT opposite of what a scientist should be.
Using the definitions above (found on Dictionary.com) The problem is someone(scientist) saw something in the sky and don't know what it is(problem). They hypothosized it is Dark Matter(scientific theory). Now how do we go about doing that last part of the definition of scientific theory? We can't. So until we CAN it's "just a theory". That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying it's a bad theory or that it's not possible/probable/practical. I'm just saying it's a theory. That's all.
If I were a scientist (I'm not but I do play one in COH), I could theorize that the odor from cooking broccoli is actually a harmful gas that is depleting the ozone. It's silly and a bit out there, but I could still make the claim. I've smelled broccoli cooking for YEARS, I've observed the gases inside steam leave my house hundred of not thousands of times. It singes my nose hairs even, therefore it must be harmful to the ozone. I'd have to now prove that point some way. Until I can come up with a method to prove or disprove this theory, it's just a theory. Have I belittled myself? Have I belittled the scientific community? I would hope not, as there was a guy or girl at one point that theorized the excess gas from cattle damaged the ozone. Much less glamours to prove than broccoli vapors.
To be honest I don't even have a clue what Dark Matter/Energy is or is supposed to be. I just wanted to point out that there can and are other views (why oh why do I do these things?). Do as you (general you) are insisting others do and open your mind and see the other side.
I feel that I now need to post that jpeg of the comic guys sitting at his computer and telling his wife he can't come to bed because someone on the internet is wrong.
So how about that arsenic eating bacteria that National Aeronautics and Space Administration discovered.... HERE ON EARTH? -
Quote:I have not seen Highlander 2. Therefore, it does not exist. As for those who claim to have seen it, you were actually watching a rerun of the prequel to Lost, generally referred to as Gilligan's Island, while under the effects of swamp gas from Venus.
Awww sorry there are no swamps on Venus because I haven't seen them. But I theorize there is a bog around Uranus.
This is what I get for trying to be srs bsns. -
I think I slightly agree with Night Hawk here. We (general we not this forum's we) are saying Dark Matter/Energy are real because someone else said they think it is. What Night is saying is that scientists are people that do their best to prove something exists or is true based on provable and repeatable facts. Unfortunately at this time (yes in another few years to thousands of years this maybe different) no one can say, "Here is the undisputable evidence that these things exist."
It's very much like the old saying, "If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" We know it should make a sound but it can't be proven to have made a sound because there is no one to prove it. You are basically asking people to believe "HOUORGNIDHIERN" is a starship from the future, because I said it was. I can't prove it is, because I haven't seen it or heard it or smelled it but I say it is so therefore it is.
I do believe this is why we call things explaining how/what/why things are "Theories". Scientists currently can only theorize that dark matter/energy exists based on what they think they see. Once they can go out there and actually experiment with it THEN it can be proven. Until then... just a theory. Does that mean I don't believe it's out there? No, but that's my belief not a fact. I also believe there is other life out there, but it hasn't been proven yet and probably won't in my lifetime.
Quote:Fire can be proven to exist, even to a fireman that doesn't believe it is real....burn him with it. What Night is saying is, like I said above, Dark Matter CAN NOT be proven at this time. And for a scientist not to agree with a given theory is totally just. It has often even been a good thing. The world being flat is a good example. It was believed by, at the time what was considered to be, scientists. Yet someone came along and said they are wrong! Wonder what happened to that guy? I think a good scientist is supposed to question things, possibly even things he/she have suggested to be fact. If not they will become blinded by any little inkling that their theory is correct and then ignore the things that suggest otherwise. But if as you say you are working on a physics/astronomy degree and you flatly disagree (and even outright assume) that the currently widely accepted theories of Dark Matter/Energy must be wrong because they don't "seem" right to you because they don't match up to your everyday experiences then frankly I worry about your ability to apply that degree in any reasonable fashion. Yours is almost like a fireman in training who doesn't believe in the existence of fire. -
Or you now use the Titan Sentinal from Titan Network to export your current build into Mids builder and even save it. Im on my iPhone or I'd add links but the should be a short Google away.

Well I will say that one of the things that bugs me is the convienience of no zombies around for "important" yet long-winded scenes. But I just re-read the first TPB (forgot I even bought it) and the book was guilty of this as well. I bring this up because like Sleestack, I too wondered where the rest of the CDC staff was. I would assume a couple of them were the "fresher samples", but one guy was able to clear the CDC to a level that he could move around? I want him on my team! Until he turns into a zombies from the acid/contagion cocktail that I dreamed up.

I did an internet search and no one that I could find has mentioned the scientist being exposed. So now I'm doubting myself. I don't like doubting myself, because I very much like to be right.
I'll just have to record it and see it again. I can't believe I'd make that all up in my head. And if I did then I love this show that much more for making my brain see things! -
Okay I must be going crazy and of course I deleted the show from my DVR, BUT I distinctly remember them showing the CDC guy pulling the glove off and we see a split second of his finger bubbling. THEN he rushes into the decontamination room. THEN later when he is drinking wine I could have SWORN I saw a bandaid on his finger. I'll have to record one of the repeats and look again! I usually never notice these little things so it's odd to me that I'd imagine them all.
Also "my bad" for calling it a virus, they just haven't given us anything else to call it yet. Contagion, disease, plague, what have you.... -
Okay I've been playing my spines/dark scrapper for a long time and he is probably my most survivable toon, even beating out my tanks(which I've never been good at making). But I have a question, why Opressive Gloom over Cloak of Darkness? I would think the -to-hit would be more beneficial than the mag 2 disorient. I know the DR can offset the -hit points but is OG that much better than CoD? Or is this really just an IO set holder?
Also, I'm planning a (semi)purpled build starting now as my second build. Until now I've never liked to respec because I feel like I make changes that are hard to adjust to. I guess I just get used to the build as I level that by the time I hit 50 I know when and where to use most powers. Plus I've never been one to min/max anything, I just build to what looks like it makes sense for that power. Usually leaving me with odd set choices for an overall build. I like survivabilty with damage. I love the flowing orange numbers. So when someone says what am I building for I have to say damage first, survivability second. So should I look at defense, type or positional; or focus on recharge for spammage of DR?
I'm not at home but will try to post a build for critic. I'm sure my current build is horrible to you all but it's what has worked for me so far. BUT I'd sure like to make him a bit more uber. -
Okay so did EVERYONE miss the fact that the CDC doctor now has an open wound that was exposed to the "virus"?? Plus in the preview for next week it looked like Andrea was either freaking out or turning. So I can totally see the doctor turning and infecting others. This would be a good reason for Rick and crew to leave the CDC.

I like that piece GQ, it almost has a Teen Titans show feel to it! Which I loved that show!

While I feel bad for all your frustrations you had I am SUPER jealous you got to go to The Lady & Sons!!! I joke with my wife all the time that she is going to be just like Paula Deen when she gets older. They both have country accents and make jokes that border the acceptable and both cool really well! So we've always talked about going there!
Glad you and the family made it back home safely though! -
Thanks CR just something I found while googling zombie gifs...

By your own definition he would be a tier 1. He's had a movie AND carried a #1 selling book on his own for years. Just sayin...
I pretty much agree with everyone here, if it's not Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Wolverine, Original X-Men, Witchblade or Spawn, I'd say they are tier 2 or lower. You can't just base it on whether they had their own comic though because MANY tier 2 and lower have had relatively long running comics, Gambit, NightCrawler, Martian Manhunter, heck even Maverick (from Weapon X) had his own series. I think it's more of a name recognition plus appearences in big comic/movie events.
I think where it gets more vague is villians... Magneto, Sinestro, Joker and Luthor are really the big ones in my opinion... YMMV -
Okay this makes me want to go make another archery toon RIGHT NOW!

Attache that is a truly awesome piece!

I got my best friend and son hooked on COH. But as for others... I have run into one guy who does deliveries to my job that used to play. We talked about COH for a while but he had left the game already for WoW... :-/
Recently, as in last week, I noticed a client checking out the WoW forums and told him I was a COH person myself and low and behold he had an account at one time. I started telling him about all the changes since he'd been gone (a couple years) and he was very tempted to start up his account again. I need to send him a friend renewal thing...
So in total I've met two people from COH. Though, I have one SG friend that I text and he sent post cards and a couple gifts from his summer cruise to the Mediteranean which was very cool. I have two others that I have on my FaceBook friends list from one of my SGs.
I'd say this is a pretty friendly game and not a bad place to meet people as you already know you have one interest in common! -
I don't think the zombies are attracted MORE by blood. They aren't sharks, so the amount of blood Merle did or didn't have is irrelevant.
The amount of zombies and the lack of them triggering the "alarms" is a good point. This leads us to believe there is someone that at the very least led them there and helped them into camp by disabling the "alarms". If it was Merle, then he had to have hidden the truck somewhere down the hill/mountain(whatever it is) as the road is the only way in with a vehicle that we've seen. So he would then had to get out of the truck and lure the geeks on foot to the camp area, all without being caught and eaten.... if he hasn't been eaten that it.
OR it could be someone else all together. It's not like these are the only survivors as we've witnessed with the gang and the nursing home. Seriously what were the conditions prior to the zombolypse that allowed the nursing home to be in that condition? Sheesh! Regulations people!
Good point also about the bolts from the crossbow. Merle's brother did re-use bolts and he shot the gang member in the rear. So will he turn? Is wiping the zombie blood off on their clothing enough to clean it? I do remember them showing him cleaning the bolts at one point after pulling it from one of the geeks' head. Or is it purely saliva that transmits the contagion?
The more I think I have answers the more questions pop up. -
Oooooohhhh Who's THAT?!?!?! Great story so far Henri!
