Lyden stood warily, his body somewhat slack with confusion. None of this had been in the briefing.
Rebels? Overmagus..Archlich? Comma--
And that was when Wielder yelled. Jerking with surprise at the sudden outburst of sound, Lyden had gotten half the latches off of his gun case before realizing Wielder was just being loud for.. no reason. In an attempt to get back a bit of his composure, standing himself in an upright, attentive position was how Lyden remained as he patiently waited for them to finish. Animator had introduced himself, and now it was his turn. This was confusing, though- Lyden had been taught to hate metahumans, though he was clearly one himself- and now they were to be allies? He reasoned it was in the best interests of the mission.
"...Unit Lyden is a supersoldier property of Greensryche Research, a subsidary of Greensryche Industries. This unit will comply with any orders noncompromising to this Unit's physical capacities." -

"My servants have already informed me that the second one is watching, perhaps unknowing of our purpose. Maybe if you put away your weapons he would come out."

Seeing the general feel of the company easing up, Lyden took one long glance at the old man... and then started down the hill. Within a few moments he was among them- looking to the authoritative figure with a measure of confusion. He was unsure whether to look independent, or submissive, or just plain lost- as he felt he was. -
Lyden was a ways away from Xey and the rest of the group there, but from his fairly short distance he'd sworn he'd heard the sound of a portal opening. He tapped a button on the side of his mask.
"Xey? Status report?"
After a brief pause, he immediately packed up his things and hiked back over the hill. Coming over the crest, he would see the lot of them- Dark Animator, Wielder, and the rest of the rebel soldiers.
"..."
With a hand over his gun case protectively, he began down the hill toward them. -
Yeah. That's largely why I felt like crap making Bad Company, because despite being 'open' in the sense that anyone could join I had to close it off at a fairly low number with respect to that it had to follow a set number of houseguests for the sake of the game. I even let a couple more in just because I didn't realize it'd take and I felt like a dick.
I really think the ideal solution is to take exclusive RP to exclusive boards. If you have a fairly good idea of who's going to be eligible to join you may as well invite them and everyone can be happy and enjoy it without it looking like a VIP event where you have to be one of the who's who.
I personally plan to have such an RP in the distant future with regards to a character of mine. If they somehow become well known by next to EVERYONE, I'd consider doing a thread here. Otherwise I'd put it somewhere else. >_> -
Whoa.. for a start, that's awesome. I like the battle cry.
Pardon the redundance, but names are personal things- we can give suggestions, but it's best if you build on whatever we give you and make it your own. For example, my character Lyden's name is a derivative of Lydian, a measure on some.. musical scale that someone else suggested.
Anyways, a smooth talker, huh? The.. Operator? The Faceman? The Ambassador? *leaves lots o' room for other people* -

Morsko slipped in through a window, a little groggy that there was a speaker system even outside. That tree had been an excellent place to take a nap, and the speaker in the branch under him was a loud and obnoxious instument of pain as far as he was concerned...
[/ QUOTE ]
Lyden looked up from what he was doing at the entry of Morsko. His master had chosen him to participate in the experiment so no doubt he had what it took in order to compete fully, but after finding himself unable to conjure up any clear mental image of Morsko standing on his hind legs and popping a neatly written note into the box Lyden decided he wanted to make sure anyways. He took a step toward Acid and nodded lightly to him, speaking in a quiet tone.
"Requesting clarification on companion's ability to participate in the vote. If not, advise method of assistance." -
..."Take you under their wing"? Haha, you have a flair for the dramatic already.. that's a good sign! Sure, I'll help out. I'm a bit swamped with work right now, but send an offline message to @Tomanton and I'll help you when I can. I'm not the best though, so consider holding off until someone other than me takes interest in helping out.. >_>

((Whoops. After a week or so off and following the clearing-up of a slight few misunderstandings.. >_> we're back! And, since it seems that's what people wanted, jumping to teh vote. *hopes people post so he dosen't look dumb*))
Sometime later in the afternoon after dinner had been wrapped up, anybody passing by the main room would have noticed Lyden setting something up. As it only seemed to be a box on a pedestal accompanied by a stack of blank cue cards and a coffee mug full of various pencils, pens, crayons and highlighters it didn't seem to be anything all that special. However, taken in the context of their 'experiment' the correlation was obvious- it was time to vote someone off. Lyden's voice sounded out over the house's intercom, though in person it did not sound like he was speaking at all:
"Contestants are to report to the main room immediately."
Kaloaten, fresh out of the pool and still dripping wet, let out a gasp as he entered the main room and thoughtlessly tracked pool water everywhere- he knew what time it was. Thinking to dash off to warn Tomanton, Lyden put a hand on his shoulder to stop him- to prevent last-minute collaboration, until the voting was done once people got into the room they would stay there. -
((I've been away a long time, for lack of Lyden having anything to do, so I will make amends.. with a (not) long post! >_>
)
Lyden sighed lightly- after a good hour of poking and scraping, the bright orange writing Thuel had left on his arm wasn't coming off. He'd wash it off with a chemical cleanser when he got back to base. That was, if he got back to base. For now, he wasn't holding his breath. One fairly strong emotion had bypassed its chemical supression in his mind- boredom. He was still checking his connection..

..To no avail whatsoever. Sitting against a tree with his laptop open and balanced on his knees, Lyden's gun case was open, his submachinegun laying fully assembled beside it. If Lyden was camping, all that was missing was the tent. Still trying to comprehend his situation as well as the cryptic transmissions his laptop was picking up, Lyden's attempts to formulate a way to successfully complete his mission were hampered at best.
Out of the corner of his eye, though, he could still see the hole that Thuel had inadvertently blew open. It was too dark to see into, but even still, Lyden was curious as to where it went. And speaking of going, he realized it would be best if he did not remain in place for too long. He shut down his laptop and folded it closed, then set it in the case and began on taking the needless gear off of his weapon.. It would be best to stay on the move. -
Here, I'll field this until someone comes up with a better explanation. *clears throat* A-hem. Uhm..
Roleplaying. Role playing. The idea to keep in mind is you're speaking as if you are your character, rather than yourself controlling the character. The difference, however, isn't readily there.
You: "Can someone pull from that mob?"
Your character: "Can someone pull from that mob?"
How is this different? It's not. That's where your character's personality comes in.
Maybe they're impatient: "Pull one of those lunkheads over here so we can fight 'em already!"
Or cautious: "It looks like we'll have a better chance against these guys if we pull one up front first."
Aside from base personality types, it's good to have a quirk of some sorts. Maybe the character isn't from earth and is still getting used to the customs here, so simple things like the monorail amaze and confuse them. Whatever the quirk is, make sure it isn't something that'll be annoying to other people.
Next up is the bio. Whether it's a sentence or a short story, every good roleplaying character needs one! Briefly detail your character's past. How did they get their powers? What made them come to Paragon City/The Rogue Isles to become a hero/villain? Do they like/dislike any hero/villain groups in particular? It's just a little flavor for yourself and other people to go on. If there's some big super secret whoa thing about your character, though, don't stick it in the bio. Keep it a secret so people can discover it through RP.
Tips when you're RPing in groups? Well, it's bound to get crowded, so try to talk a bit less. Always always ask questions about other people's characters. They put a lot of effort into them, and nothing is more delightful than someone taking interest in their hard work.In smaller teams, though, is where CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT happens! Characters are better to talk person-to-person here, rather than about the objectives. It's basically the same as getting to know a person in real life, only, again, your character. :P
Roleplaying on the forums? If you can mash your fingers on a keyboard, you can roleplay on the forums. Of course, without the videogame as a medium, you have to be detailed about your descriptions- including your character's thoughts is just as important as including speech and actions. Style is important, but if you don't think you have a way with words, just type how you talk. It'll give it a natural feel, at least.
Think of it as collaboratively writing a story- and to this end, feel free to collaborate with the other people in the threads, through private messages- to plan out and choreograph, to some degree, what you want to happen. It makes it more fun for everyone- just, be sure not to overdo it. There'll be things you want to flow smoothly, yeah, but don't micromanage- spontaenity, however you spell it, is fun. Also, don't godmode. I'll leave the details of that up to someone else.
I'm too tired to go on. Can someone else expain it from here, and elaborate on points I've been unclear on? *holds out relay baton* -
((Hey, since nobody's posted awhile.. how's jumping ahead to the vote sound? XD))
-
"Affirmative."
That the pressure inside of it had likely only served to worsen the taste. Lyden moved Kaloaten aside to get a better look, and to make sure there was no longer any doubt about it- egg 19 had escaped its fate for a while, but now it was no more. That left only one signature on Lyden's remote, as it should have been: Toy Dispenser's number 11. Lyden spoke up once again, lacking the flair for showmanship the host of a show would probably be better suited to have:
"Challenge complete. Toy Dispenser has been awarded immunity status." He looked up at the slightly cloudy, mid-afternoon sky. "Contestants granted full use of mansion facilities prior to voting, to commence at 2000 hours. Unit Lyden advises a more thorough exploration of mansion facilities, east wing in particular." He stepped up to the big black GSR crate that had been inexplicably on the lawn for awhile. There almost seemed to be an explosion as he got one side of the crate open- he tumbled onto his back as various inflatable beach toys spilled out and automatically inflated. Beach balls, inner tubes, those godawful floating couches you could never keep upright, you name it. Dusting himself off and getting up in the pile, Lyden seemed a bit flustered- pretending nothing had happened, he wordlessly marched himself back inside.
The east wing of the mansion had actual fun stuff to do. Though a chunk of it was taken out of the first floor by the garage, there were three main attractions- the lab/workshop on the bottom floor, and the entertainment room and library on top.
The workshop didn't have any specialization to the devices in it, instead it seemed like it would cater well enough to the casual superpowered hobbyist. It seemed to be more geared toward diagnostics and repair than to actual experimentation, but there were plenty of tools and machines that would facilitate a small project or two. The manual overrides for the house's functions Lyden seemed to be able to control from his room were also here. Since the door to the workshop was directly across from the door to the garage, car repair equiment had been taken away from the elements and stashed in the room, cluttering it up somewhat.
The entertainment room seemed to have been designed by a gamer. A large TV, couch, and rack of consoles seemed to be the centerpiece of the room, with a few pinball and arcade machines lining the walls wherever a video game or movie poster hadn't been put up. A pool table was also present.
The library was exactly as you'd expect it to be- stashed with everything from medical texts to cheap romance novels. There seemed to be a fair collection of comic books and video game magazines, though. A section had been set aside for two publications in particular; a few years worth of subscriptions to a black and white newsmagazine called 'Death Illustrated', and several identically sized black books with no apparent title. In the back was a mellow looking screening room, separated by a curtain from the main library.
Back on the beach, Kaloaten went up to Toy Dispenser, still covered in sand and slime.
"...Can I have your--Ack!! Tomanton!!" Tomanton had grabbed him by one of his horns, and was dragging him off.
"Whatever you need to ask the winner, it can wait until you've cleaned yourself off and made yourself presentable."
"Egg! I want your egg to keep as a souvenir! Can I have it??" Kaloaten kept asking as he was dragged off. -
"Negative. Contestant victory pending, though Unit Lyden is unsure of why Toy Dispenser has not yet won." Lyden was staring with slight disbelief at his device, wondering how it was that an egg could have detonated but not burst- but, rules were rules- it was the last egg intact, above anything else.
Kaloaten, getting his bearings after a second teleport, managed to see Morsko dash behind the rock, getting up and following behind to see... the second rock. "Uhm..." He blinked, turning the second rock over to see if Morsko was beneath it. -
((Yes, we should definitely take stock of people's current locations. >.>
)
-
After watching Mini Bot safely return the egg to Toy Dispenser, Lyden pressed the button once more. This time, the signal went to the egg Morsko was holding, 19... however, with an increased density thanks to Helper, the egg made a burbling sound and sort of discolored to a pale yellow-gray, but did not burst.
He pressed it again. 10, which Cortianna had held onto for so long, now popped. Now only recognising egg 11, Lyden's device locked out on him and refused to detonate any more- it would now come down to a battle to see who would let go of or break their egg first.
Kaloaten picked his face out of the beach, his cowl covered in sand and eggshell. He turned around to look at Morsko returning in the general direction of the group. "Mr. Acid! Let's box him in and take the egg!" And with that he was up, skittering around to be in Morsko's eventual path. -
Seeing the egg burst broke Tomanton out of battle quick enough- he sighed, backed off, shrugged, and gave a smirk.
"Naturally. At this point, it's best to just not step on anyone's toes and see what happens. Wouldn't want to draw ire."
After a brief glance into her eyes, Tomanton's attention was now on his charge, Kaloaten- who was sitting by the dune with Acid. His wordless thanks was fairly clear in his eyes, understanding quite well that Acid had very likely saved him from a painful trip into Medicom-land. With this, he was determined to get the egg back. Yolk dripping off of him as he got to his feet, Kaloaten made a mad dash along the beach to Mini Bot- diving at the egg just as Mini was reaching for it..
Lyden turned down a dial on the remote to make sure the next charge would only take away a maximum of two of the remaining three eggs- he had been instructed to get a good struggle on camera before letting the randomizer make its final judgement. -
Lyden, seeing how Kefetasura had chosen to react, was somewhat disappointed. He glanced up to both of them and spoke in a voice that was stern, but not paricularly directed at either:
"Violent uses of powers are to be ceased immediately. Failure to comply will result in invocation of the dampening field."
He pressed the button again, and 3 would pop in midair- anyone who had attempted to get beneath it for the catch would get white and yellow rained all over them. -
[ QUOTE ]
A second later, he hacked a huge loogie at anyone blow the palmtree as he decided that was about the vilest thing he'd ever tasted. He also made a mental note of the same caliber that Acid had made earlier.
[/ QUOTE ]
That anyone happened to be Kaloaten. Squatting under the tree he had been watching the crowd, trying to best see how he could wrestle back an egg, when the egg spit splattered on him.
"Ackpth! Heeey!" Frowning at Morsko, he vowed to teach that thing a lesson. Stomping over to the other side of the tree to get a better footing to try and climb it, he had no idea what he was putting himself in the way of...

The white-hot egg flew directly at Morsko, and propelling flame behind it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Splat. Kaloaten yelped loudly as the piping-hot egg smacked against the back of his cowl, leaving a yellow and white smudge on it as it shattered and fell to pieces in the sand. After leaping around a bit to shake off the heat, Kaloa fell into the sand and realized something- he was now covered in the debris of five different eggs, and had nothing to show for it.
((And since it'd be no good to keep someone who's sort of away with an egg..))
Tomanton quickly reappeared behind Lily, thrusting his arms upwards at her wrists to try and snatch egg 3. His aim was a bit off, though- knocking it from her and his hands, the egg was sent up quite a few feet in the air. It stopped and curled back down toward the beach in a lazy arc, and if nobody did anything it would land in the sand closest to Rosalind. -
Lyden pressed the button on the remote once again. Only one egg would explode this time:
12, Mini Bot's secret egg, would be the victim. Lyden, however, saw number 12 fade on his remote but did not see the concealed egg burst- so he pressed the button once again. Three would pop, this time:
13, the egg that had mysteriously disappeared from the pile beforehand, was about to make its location known.
9, which had been held throughout the competition so far by Pyro-Technis, also popped.
24, which was way up in a palm tree tucked into Morsko's tail, would burst open and rain down onto the sand.
"Four eggs remaining", Lyden called out. 3, in Lily's posession, 10 in Cortianna's, 11 in Toy Dispenser's, and 19 which had slipped from Kaloaten's grasp and come to be held by Experiment and Helper.
Tomanton took a few steps back and took cover behind a rock, evidently planning to disappear.. -
Lyden blinked. That was it? It seemed to good to be true, but... his job was to live. If a marking on his suit was all that was required, that was fine. He could just recall another combat suit later, provided that aspect of the Greensryche Network still worked.
"..Affirmative." Soft crunches of underfoot leaves and twigs could be heard as Lyden calmly walked over to Thuel and stood infront of him. -
After the shots went off, there was a prolonged silence.
"...Unit Lyden has no identification that had not already been presented. Furthermore, Unit Lyden has not resisted arrest.. as no option of a peaceful surrender had been previously issued."
There was a light shuffling of dirt as he moved his feet, stepping out from behind the tree- staring across at Thuel with no trace of either fear nor ill will in his eyes. He took one step forward, arms at his sides, his case still slung over his shoulder.
"...Unit Lyden surrenders." -
Lyden would have no idea how long the fuse was set to go for, but it cut and dried his decision well enough- the hole was too dark to see down, and with heat vision Thule would have an advantage. It wasn't happening. He scrambled over the other side of the crater, and took off into a run again.
At this point, it was almost frustrating to admit the truth that these people had the technology to keep such close tabs on him. It fortified his theory, though.. until there was no other way to defend his own life; the life that belonged to Greensryche Industries and his master- he wouldn't attack. Getting a bit further ahead, he stopped behind a tree to wait. -
When Lyden heard the thing announce it was initiating tracking, he thought it meant under its own power- the dart was completely unexpected, and only felt as it pierced square into his back where his armor was slightly thinner. Still running, he reached around and swatted the dart off of himself like a fly.
[ QUOTE ]
"You fool!"
[/ QUOTE ]
Lyden recognised that voice. He picked up his pace, coming over the crest of a rather large crater and dropping down inside of it- glancing around behind him to see if Thuel was closing in, he noticed a small hole- the crater's blast had exposed the top of what looked like an underground cave. He now stopped and squatted overtop of it- this would be putting all his eggs in one basket. If Thuel passed him by he would be safe, if not and the cave was a dead end, he would be finished. Standing over the hole, he hesitated.. -
Lyden just stared at OSAD for the duration of the countdown. His snap judgement call that the thing was at a glance too complicated to simply blow itself up had been right- but he had stepped behind a tree to shield himself, just in case. When the thing announced it was kidding, Lyden gave something that sounded like a sigh.
"Unit Lyden is not a threat." He had to think of some way to get rid of this thing. Grabbing it? Too risky. Shooting it? At this time of night, far too noisy. Fend it off with a stick? Not very professional. But if this thing came from the direction of the town, so would more of those soliders.. he decided to simply turn away and break into a run from it.
