It is my understanding that the “Surviving Eight” were the heroes singled out by the media.

The “others” people refer to are, trainers, contacts that have lost their super-powers, and others spoken of in the game.

There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago that some of the more fanatic (knowledgeable) posters named everyone. Try a search. I think it was only 2 weeks ago.
