I can see alot of trouble with character consepts with this. would we be able to lock in our job say you do X amount of time at location get the badge and Lock it in so if you Log out somewhere out you don't change jobs. Seems we be able to LOCK in "Committing crimes" and "On Patrol"
[/ QUOTE ]
Would we need to? I mean, isnt it just going to be a badge that you can ignore if you want to? -
I'd love to see some zone-specific jobs as well as location-specific, so people who spend a lot of time in, say, AP get recognised as such.

I just wish they added more stuff for the males. . . but hey thats just me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I went through the females' costumes... variants on at least 3 existing costumes plus the wedding dress plus the tux.... And guys get....the tux.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think in future they should try to ensure that both genders get a lot of stuff, as some people will be buying blind since they may not see all the costumes within.
And while it's on my mind, suprised there is no drinking champagne or toast emote. -

I have not been able to locate Sela Vermont on the live server, seems odd that you can't, but the wedding usher is plain to see.
So, will we be getting the wedding co-ordinator on live servers? Or is that just for test and only during the event?
[/ QUOTE ]
She's there now it's all live, shes in the same area as the usher and Liberty. -

I am not sure i understand. Can these new costumes also be earned by doing a special mission like the V-Day missions? Or they can only and only be earned by spending real money for them?

Pay or live without.

So what is it about Valentines day and CoX? For the last three years there has been something new introduced that seems specially tailored to annoy people.
This year: a $10 package with very little highly specialised emotes/costumes in it.
Last year: The Valentines day bug (which haunts us still today)
The year before that: Costume options were made avaialble for inviting x number of people to play. (They corrected this misstep last year)
[/ QUOTE ]
You can still go to the wedding event without spending a dime
Other than that, it's a V-Day event for your alts.
Edit: the special add for this year's V-Day event is the wedding. The Wedding Pack will be available indefinitely - but it made sense to release it during the romantic season.

Isn't there an extra mission on each side?

Outside of the Pocket D, and in conjunction with the live Wedding event, players will find new Hero and Villain contacts in Atlas ParkĀ and Mercy Island. Sela Vermont, wedding coordinator of Manticore and Sister Psyche, sends Heroes on a special wedding gift reconnaissance mission while Zev Scalamore, under direction of Arachnos, enlists Villains to do his dirty work.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmmm. maybe there is after all. Didn't see this on Test, so new to me if it's separate from the ushers. I could be mistaken after all. Intersting...
[/ QUOTE ]
I looked in AP on test last night, couldn't find the person you go to. Might not be up yet. -
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps, but it's still a case of them charging for "goody packs". This pack gives us varients on 2 different "tops with skin" sets, dresses, high heels and gloves, and wedding veils, not to mention the tux coats with tails. Plus 4 unique emotes. Sure, no Jump Jet or Pocket D teleport, but it's still in line with the GvE goody pack...
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't say 4 unique emotes, three are the same thing with different FX.
And again, all male characters get is two kinds of tux with tails. Was there really nothing more they could get, considering the cost? I mean if we want to stick to a similar style I can off the top of my head think of undone bowtie, jacket with colourable flower, shirt and suspenders with and without tie, shirt without tie....throw that in, then it looks more like $10 IMO.
And I get the whole thing that if you don't want it you don't buy it. However, some people may only have male characters and want that jacket, but due to the price and lack of stuff for them it's not worth it. That just seems a shame to me. -

THIS pack is not. There's no new versions of the game that came with it. This is content that, before now, would have been given out as the holiday bonus. Now we have to pay for it.
BAD THING.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't see the big difference regarding GvE. An updated DVD disc for both games versus my original copies of CoH and CoV, plus the $10 GvE goodie pack...why that makes a difference in what they can get away with, I'm not entirely sure.
I'm perfectly willing to agree that $10 is slightly too pricey (somewhere closer to $4.99 - $7.99 would've flown better), however.
I'm also alarmed, though not panicked by this concept. Again, they're most likely testing the waters and hopefully they'll realize that only 1 bonus pack a year is probably for the best.
I also hope that they'll think a bit harder about the composition of such packs. As was mentioned before, the tuxes scream magician, and I don't think it's entirely fair that a costume piece with that sort of extraneous use is pay-locked. (It's a similar complaint to that I have with the Cabal Hat and the theoretical possibility of the Roman set being pay-locked.)
Additionally, I think they goofed a bit in this case and underestimated how much of a clamor new costume parts, period, causes.
[/ QUOTE ]
What you said works for me
I do wonder if a lot of the negative reaction stems from how sudden this is. It's only recently that we got a big long message from the devs telling us about the future, I think if we had been told then that they were looking at doing packs of non-essential items for a fee and that it's not taking away from the standard user, it would have softened the blow. -

To me.. it seems like a huge rip off.
$10 for some costumes that I doubt I'll ever use and four lowly emotes? No powers? No badge? $10 for something that I expect to see in most updates?
HUGE rip-off.
[/ QUOTE ]
Think of it this way:
You will never use it so you don't buy it. EVEN
Other people suppliment development costs by buying them: WIN
So overall you win!
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless it does so well that we get future packs with low VFM. How long until something people really want is in a $10 pack with little content? What if the Roman costume is released on it's own for $10? People will buy it, money goes into the NCsoft account. A lot of people lose then though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait, how do they "lose"? NCSoft offers a product. Some people pay for that product. Maybe enough people buy it to justify NCSoft trying such a thing in the future, maybe not.
Where do people lose again?
[/ QUOTE ]
Pack is a success. Future pack released. Item person wants included. High price for not a lot. Person doesn't buy it due to it costing too much. They lose.
[/ QUOTE ]
To say they have "lost" something presumes they have a fundamental right to it, that they're entitled to it simply because it exists.
That's a stance I cannot agree with.
[/ QUOTE ]
I never say they lost something, I said they lose. You haven't lost something if you want something and can't get it, but you lose. -

I really do believe that most people playing this game would, provided it didn't affect free content, be willing to pay extra for packs of costumes/emotes/powers. But I REALLY hope we get better value for money in the future. -

Bowtie is only under Shoulders and not Head/Details 2. This is where Jester Lace is located. Please duplicate this tie into that category. DO NOT REMOVE it from shoulders. More options > less options.

I hoped they'd do this with the winter event earmuffs (They cover the ears, but they're not in ears meaning you can't have eyewear but can have covered up ears?). -
Wonder if this is why we haven't had the ROman pieces yet.

This paid bonus pack offers less than the last one, and if it goes over gangbusters they have no motivation to deliver a better offering next time. Heck they might say "geez, they paid ten bucks for THAT? let's see if we can get away with ONE costume and a couple of emotes!"
=P
[/ QUOTE ]
New badges. $10, $20, $50....
That's my only real worry here. I'm sure we'll still get good free stuff, but watch some stuff I want be released in a paid for pack with poor value for money because people eat them up reguardless -

For the Emporer's sake, don't you see?! Next thing you know they'll be nickel-and-diming us for everything! This is the kind of thing I thought I wouldn't have to worry about with NCsoft running the game...
[/ QUOTE ]
Uh... wut?
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe his worry is that if this is a success then in future we will have to pay for everything outside of the bare minimum.
I have faith that this wont happen, since it would annoy a lot of people. More packs will come, but free content will too.
Having said that, I don't think this is good value for money if you mainly play male characters, since you get two similar jackets and two emotes for $10. Hopefully in the future they will either be more content-full or be cheaper. We shall see -

[ QUOTE ]
Also, just a thought...
At 10 bucks, what if the Valentines Day Costume Pack also included a free costume change for each of your characters?
[/ QUOTE ]
That would add some icing to this for sure. Almost as good as GvE. Throw in a few more male costume options, and it would be on-par IMHO.

Undone bow tie, jacket with colourable flower? -

If one of the options was an undone bow tie hanging from your neck, that might have been enough for me to get this -

I get the feeling this is an experiment for future little packs...
Sorry, but I gotta hope it fails. Which it probably will. Well, except for the James Bond character concepts...
Sorry, but no. I don't like where this is going. I already pay my monthly fee for a reason.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except that this is exactly what people have been asking for for ages now:
The ability to buy "packs" with special stuff.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think they meant "buy the stuff that originally came with the now-defunct boxes", like the DVD or pre-order items. Like what they did with the in-game GvE items.
This? It's kind of twisting our words IMHO. We want to buy in-game stuff that has already been made available through standard retail, not pay for every future costume set, emote, special power, etc.
Admittedly, this is like selling a box without the box. Except this doesn't have enough content to feel like a "box pack".
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, people have been wanting them to sell the CoH DVD items/CoV CE stuff. (Which I have staunchly opposed).
However, I can't count the number of times I've seen threads popping up, or people saying stuff like "I would totally pay <Insert monetary figure here> for extra costume parts/temp powers/ect."
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. There are people who are willing to pay extra for packs.
I would be, provided it was worth the money. GvE was very much worth it. With this I feel like I'd be paying for two emotes I'd jokingly use. -
[ QUOTE ]

How would it fail exactly? Theoretically everything they get could be profit.
And James Bond concepts already have a tux -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I don't mind paying for the occasional theme pack, but it does seem a little sparse compared to the Costume/Pocket D teleporter/jumppack one.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why is that? The lack of a badge or temp power?
GvE was a badge, two temp powers, and two costumes.
WP is around 6 costumes (only the two tux variants are available for males) and four emotes, something which hasn't been done before.
Mechanically, it may be sparse, there are no new powers to play around with, but costume wise its pretty heavy, even if it is slanted to lace and formal wear.
[/ QUOTE ]
I use the Pocket D teleporter and jump pack on pretty much all my characters and quite often. A lot less use would come from this pack IMO. -

Here's the thing... did anyone not know that Freedom has the highest population and that this event would bring more players online over the weekend? Are you going to tell us that there was nothing you could have done to prevent this on your own? Like tell your friends, "Hey, in case the server gets too full, maybe we should make some alts someplace else."
[/ QUOTE ]
Why even use double XP if you're going to then have to create new characters just for the event?
People are majorly overreacting to the lockouts IMO, but that is a flawed argument.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because you can play those alts year-round. I doubt many people would create alts specifically to play only during double XP events. The point is that you don't put all your eggs (characters) in one basket (Freedom), that's all.
[/ QUOTE ]
But this has never been a problem before. People went to servers for whatever reason, built up friendships and whatever, filled up their global channels and the like and now nearly four years into the game we're being told to not put our eggs into one basket.
I'm not whining at the devs, it was a good event and I only had the problem of the globals dropping all the time. I just disagree strongly with the attitude some people have that it is the fault of the players for not being prepared for something that came into effect a couple of days ago. -
