  1. Ok, thanks for the advice, will focus on s/l
  2. Hey all,

I'm pondering outfitting my elec/elec tanker (once I get it to 50), and am working on some theoretical builds in Mids'. Since Electric Defense has no built-in defense, most of it will be coming from IO set bonuses.

So here's my question: Which would you see being 'better' to aim for? Positional (melee/ranged/aoe) or Damage (s/l/c/f/n/e/p)?

I'm fully aware there's very limited point in attempting to do both, as a melee/smashing attack uses the higher of melee/smashing defense. Yeah, there are some powers that are kindof odd and use only positional or only damage-based, but they're not a big concern of mine.

Either way, I could see getting up to about 30% def in s/l, or melee/aoe without using purps.

Also, I should specify: I am focusing on end drain, def, regen, recharge in that order. Dang Performance Shifter's proc being bugged

:edit: This isn't request for help with a build, it's a request for advice. I can generate builds just fine :/edit:

    Didn't find anything

I didn't see what kind of internet connection you have. If you have dialup, you are out of luck. Too much data is being transmitted to participate in anything like a mothership raid or the Rikti invasion. The maximum effective rate is 5-6K per second with dialup, and even at that rate you'll start falling behind pretty soon. I've seen data rates up to 20K per second constant in Rikti invasions.

If you have satellite you're always going to have problems with ping -- that 48,000-mile round trip is never going to get any faster.

If you have DSL or a cable modem the first thing I would try is resetting my modem. Every once in a while my modem gets messed up and starts having lots of errors. Resetting it fixes my problems most of the time.

If that doesn't work, it's probably some node along the path between you and NCSoft's servers. This is really hard to fix because neither you nor NCsoft has any control over those locations. Ask your ISP for help trying to track down the problem.
I'm on DSL, and have reset all network hardware I own. Problems still persist though. When I played 4 months ago, I didn't encounter anything like this, and the packet loss and ping were roughly the same as now.

East Coast servers have been cranky of late, and often experience unexpected lag.

Additionally, Justice (a West Coast server) seems to be having issues connecting with the Wentworths server (but not the Black Market server).

HOWEVER...what you are describing does indeed sound like typical lag, where the client and the server are not keeping in sync.
I play on Infinity, haven't tried any other servers.

General consensus seems to be "lag". Will know for certain in about 3 days

That's what I was afraid of.

But this seems a tad extreme for lag. Normal instances of lag in a game show an action occuring late. Not never.

Take oddity #4, being unable to move. I haven't seen this "timeout". I encountered it during a solo mission, got up and went to the kitchen, made a peanut butter sandwich, drank a glass of water to clear my throat, went back to the computer, and still couldn't move. At least a minute.

This didn't occur to me when I was writing the initial post, but I have also seen mission updates occur very late. As in several minutes after I completed them. In one of the missions I was running, I had to destroy 4 objects. But the mission objective text didn't update until only 2 were left.

I've also seen contact dialog open minutes late, and NPC models not be rendered (I couldn't see the Elite Quartermaster in Grandville until I zoned, then he was fully visible).

Is CoH/CoV really using UDP without proper resend/a packet timeout of > 1 min, such that important packets can really be effectively lost? Because that's the best reason I can come up with for information seeming to be lost/not ariving.

Eh, I'm going to try redownloading the client, see if that fixes anything.

  5. Ok, if I could find a Tech Help or Tech Support subforum here, this would definately go in it. Alas, my searching yields nothing.

I reactivated my account several days ago, and while playing my Merc/Storm MM have noticed some very odd things with power execution. I am playing on a fairly laggy connection (according to the game's netgraph, fairly high packet loss and retransmit rates)
    • Animations don't always play when casting a power
    • Power icons don't always display recharge after a power has been cast (this happens more frequently when the animation hasn't played)
    • Power icons get stuck with the "casting" red circles, or the "queued" blue circles around them
    • And most irritating of all... Randomly after using a Click power, my character will become incapable of movement/turning until I either use another Click power, or toggle a Toggle power. This happens randomly in relation to the previous oddities, I've seen it occur with all the scenarios.
All of these are happening consistantly. After a couple of missions, I estimate each of these will show up at least once per 2 groups of foes, sometimes more often.

Also, I participated in an RWZ raid yesterday, and during the raid became unable to tell what my character was capable of doing: Most powers were rendering as either "casting", "queue'd", or "not doing anything", yet the game insisted they were recharging when I attempted to cast.
During the RWZ raid, the NetGraph reported even higher packet loss than during my missions, and all 4 oddities were showing up with more frequency.

The purpose of this post is 2-fold: To see if this is happening to anyone else, and to ask if anyone has any suggestions (other than "get better internet") on how to correct it. I will be moving to uni in 2 days, so I'll be able to see if it's the internet connection there.

  6. Ok, the MM comparison discussion is fairly off-topic, but really couldn't resist posting/asking about this:

However, even if you had the characters to test, you would be missing a lot of data because pet statistics aren't logged by HeroStats because your chat log doesn't have them. So the best you could do would be to say if MM X was 'faster' than Y. Digging into the numbers to provide an answer would be a whole lot of guessing.

Only way I can think to make note of the pet damage contribution would be to record demos/videos of all the missions and looking at the damage numbers after the fact.
I'm a little confused here. I'm currently logged on 50 my Merc/Storm MM and watching pet damage and ability feedback as it happens, from the channels "Pet Damage Inflicted", "Pet Hit Rolls", "Pet Combat", "Pet Damage Received", "Pet Healing Received", and "Pet Healing Delivered".

Are these not recorded in the log (I have no idea where it is saved, so no clue where to look), or are they simply overlooked by HeroStats? If the latter, it shouldn't be too hard to write a script or simple app in your language of choice to pull out the relevant info.

Example (copied from ingame after telling the Medic "Corporal Gamma" to attack a group of level 15ish Luddites in Cap Au Diable):

    WARNING: SPAM!

Corporal Gamma: HIT Luddite Brawler! Your Frag Grenade power had a 95.00% chance to hit, you rolled a 94.04.
Corporal Gamma: HIT Luddite Hacker! Your Frag Grenade power had a 95.00% chance to hit, you rolled a 81.60.
Corporal Gamma: HIT Luddite Friar! Your Frag Grenade power had a 95.00% chance to hit, you rolled a 43.92.
Corporal Gamma: HIT Luddite Slasher! Your Frag Grenade power had a 95.00% chance to hit, you rolled a 92.43.
Corporal Gamma: HIT Luddite Brawler! Your Frag Grenade power had a 95.00% chance to hit, you rolled a 59.04.
Corporal Gamma: Medic hits Luddite Brawler with their Frag Grenade for 68.12 points of smashing damage!
Corporal Gamma: Medic hits Luddite Brawler with their Frag Grenade for 106.44 points of lethal damage!
Corporal Gamma: Medic knocks Luddite Brawler off their feet with their Frag Grenade.

Corporal Gamma: Medic uses their Stimulant to protect Rewired of Norb from Immobilization, Sleep, Disorient, Hold, Fear or Confuse effects.
Corporal Gamma: Luddite Brawler MISSES! Crossbow power had a 5.00% chance to hit, but rolled a 50.98.

P.S. Turns out there's a typo in the Medic's text for the receiver: Medic protects you from IImmobilization, Sleep, Disorient, Hold, Fear or Confuse effects with a Stimulant.

If these are indeed saved to disc, I wouldn't mind writing a script to parse them out, but I only have a single lvl 50 MM so would need someone else with multiple MMs of a similar killing style to generate the logs.
