    RIP Jeff Conaway

From Grease, to Taxi, to Babylon 5 (Zack Allen) and other projects over the careers.

Sounds like editorial blunder due them wanting the GLC and Guardians wiped out when they had Hal go nuts just to bring in Kyle.

I suspect that Mogo broke off a piece of itself and we will have Mogo 2 floating around soon

When was Mogo first killed off? I don 't remember Hal/Parallax killing him.

  6. Well in Emerald Warriors Kyle tried to use the power of the blue to rebuild and reignite Mogo's core but failed. Kyle is also disgusted with John for killing Mogo, but Kyle was also ranting how they should have hoped for a better solution.

What Kyle seems to be missing is that he himself is being subtly influenced by the energy of hope and that John was also under the influence of the energy of compassion. While there MIGHT have been another way to stop Mogo without blasting his core, I can't see what it would have been, and I suspect that it is indeed what Mogo wanted to happen.

Mogo was compromised, was taken over by Krona/Parallax and had dark ring energy still in his core after Blackest Night.......sometimes the compassionate thing to do is to release someone from their suffering. So was John's action a bit of mercy? Yes. Is it bad for the Corps? Maybe. The psychic scream of Mogo disrupted Krona and the Lanterns and enabled the others to get Parallax out of the CPB. Now the Corps is awake, aware and ready to fight Krona.

My question is just how grateful the Guardians will be once they are freed of the entities....Atrocitus did prophesize that the Guardians will take Hal's greatest love from him and that Hal will revolt.......and we are hearing warnings from DC that there will only be three GL's of sector 2814 once all the dust settles. Will the Guardians drop their charges of treason against Hal that they had instigated before Krona took over?

However, imo, I think Krona has a point in that the Guardians are no longer fit to lead the GLC and protect the cosmos. Perhaps some new Guardians are needed.

If Mogo is truly destroyed then that is a major problem for the Lantern Corps and the recruitment of new lanterns since Mogo is the guiding force behind the rings scanning sectors.

I agree some mystery is always a good thing, but the Shepard's past was just screaming to be revealed. Though the art on Shepard's tale could have been better it was still a nice bulletpoint revelation of the key points of his life.

Now Boba Fett's history being revealed in the movies as a Jango clone was different.

No, this is not a biopic. This is an abomination that the Farrellys are going to fill with poop and fart jokes (because, you know, The Three Stooges were all about poop and fart jokes).

There was an excellent (albeit too short) biopic that Mel Gibson produced a few years ago. Michael Chiklis portrayed Curly. They got a few of the details wrong here and there, but overall it gave an idea as to who the Stooges were, how they rose to fame, fell when the studio stopped making short subjects, and got shafted by the studios when their popularity soared again in the TV era.
That was a good biopic movie, although the Ted Healy era was glossed over a bit. Shemp left the Healy act, yes; but it was only Shemp and not all three. Curly then joined and Moe Larry and Curly worked a bit more with Ted Healy until all three agreed to ditch him. My memories of Ted Healy are a bit dusty but as I recall he and Moe were friends from childhood, but Ted was notorious for not paying them properly and was also both a drunk and a mean drunk as well.

The text at the end of the biopic did state that they became one of the best paid acts after TV revived their popularity, and they were supposedly paid well for the movies they did. Also when they would do appearances on TV, since Curly Joe DeRita was the closest they ever got to copying Curly, they were able to revive a some of the Curly material and jokes, especially the "MAHA...AHA!" routine. They also did some TV commercials for assorted products, check youtube and also Netflix for any DVD about any Lost Stooge footage or treasures.

I was certainly expecting it, and was thrown off by it not being there.

I also thought that Mal's feelings toward River and Tam had regressed a bit from the show to the movie (he seemed more comfortable having them on the ship by the end of the series), but I can go along with that more than the other stuff.

Still, I did like the movie. These were just my more major quibbles with it that bug me a tad.

Where was that eavesdropping? I haven't seen the movie in awhile, and can't recall (my wife and I have a hard time watching it, just because of later events in it).
I honestly can't recall any sign of the Hands of Blue in Serenity unless it was in the holographic record of River being broken out as that is the only point I could see them being shown.

However, the actors were shafted royally and made very, very little money from their work. They were grossly underpaid, even after their films became popular, and they received zero residuals from their work being played later on TV. This was actually quite common up into the 1970s; the actors on Gilligan's Island saw very little money from the decades that the show was in syndication, for example. So while the quality wasn't all that great, I don't begrudge the Stooges trying to make at least a little bit of scratch later in life, from the characters they made so popular.
When TV introduced the Stooges to a new generation and their popularity soared, they began appearing more on talk shows doing skits, as well as tours and their big screen movies. They were paid better as I recall and I think they also got their lawyers to help renegotiate the residuals part of their contract with Columbia since it was signed in an era when TV didn't exist. Been awhile since I read up on that part. Also by this point they had incorporated into C3 productions and retained trademark to their images, etc, for memorabilia, etc.

The Stooges cartoon was pretty bad, but the live skits they did before and after the episodes were still pretty funny and you can Netflix rent DVD's that contain those skits, sadly not remastered. Also there are DVD's on Netflix that contain their TV show appearances doing some skits with Curly Joe DeRita and other "lost" footage of them. Worth looking at if you are a Stooge fan. Kook's Tour, their last project due to Larry having a stroke was okay but the copy I saw was a bit worn out so I'd need to see a better copy of it.

As to Gilligan's Island, from Dawn Wells entry on IMDB:

"It has long been stated that the entire cast of Gilligan's Island never received residuals beyond the first four reruns of each episode. This was true for the entire cast except Dawn Wells. When the show was picked up by CBS and Dawn was cast to replace Nancy McCarthy, she was married to her agent at the time. In her original contract she was to be paid $1200 per week plus the residual contract the 6 other castaways received. Her husband/agent said that should the show become successful Dawn would not benefit from receiving such a limited residual option. Believing the show would flop, the CBS executives humored Dawn and her husband and put a clause in her contract giving her long-term residuals should the show ever syndicate. As a result from that clause Dawn has made literally millions of dollars as the years have gone by from syndication of Gilligan's Island. This was never public knowledge. Dawn and series creator Sherwood Schwartz are the only individuals to profit long-term from the series."

So if true, basically Dawn Wells caught a lucky financial break similar to how Lucas retained all merchandising rights to Star Wars.

As the movie was for all viewers not just Firefly fans, they may have decided that a covert operative would have been more dramatic and action oriented then the Hands of Blue.

As for Mal's feelings toward River and Simon, he seemed okay with them until Simon made the statement "you're not taking her and that's final". That seemed to make Mal reevaluate Simon a bit, Simon later punching Mal sure didn't help but I also think of that as payback from the pilot episodes when Mal punched Simon. River going crazy after the keywords triggered her also made him reevaluate things with the Tams but Mal is too good a person to have just left her there and he was right to be angry with Simon for never mentioning the concept of River being programmed with keywords.....keywords that could still work on her if another operative comes looking for them.

As to Mal's overall personality, the man is a walking, talking case of post traumatic stress since the battle of Serenity valley, and his faith in God was also shattered at that point as well. Remember in the beginning of the pilot he was wearing a cross in the battle and later he no longer wore it? Plus only he and Zoe walked out of there alive. Frankly Mal could use an I.V. of Prozac for awhile or else at least wake up about his feelings towards Inara.

One of my minor gripes with Serenity was that they didn't try to extend the scene of Mal and the Shepard talking and how Mal wonders how Sherpard Book knows so much about the Alliance. I would have liked to have seen Shepard Book open up a bit to Mal about his past and what he was rather then to have waited for the Shepard's Tale.

I can only echo the sentiments said here already; I grew up and was a teenager in the 80's the heyday of Hogan and Savage...Wrestlemania Four and Five was where I got to know the wrestling biz and as much as I was a Hogan fan, Savage's athleticism and physicality was a standout in the crowd of musclebound guys who only knew about five moves. He even made Ultimate Warrior look good.

And my favorite memory of him is from his retirement match with said wrestler; it was a compelling match, where I bought into the 'everything is on the line' storyline. But the aftermath with Miss Elizabeth reuniting with Randy and the whole thing being sold with an incredible heel to face turn without a word being said still grips me. Watch any video of that moment (they have it up on wwe.com, but also check for longer versions), and the crowd is totally and utterly into it. And the crying, the standing ovations and the emotion of the moment is something you just can't fake. People wanted to see it and they cheered their hearts out, bless them.

As I've said before, Gorilla Monsoon summed Mach up best that night. 'He's a man. A man's man. The Macho Man.'

    Damn right.

Wasn't there also a rumor that both Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan could have turned state's evidence against Vince and the WWF/WWE during the steroid scandal but didn't?

If you watched it on Fox, they aired the episodes in the wrong order. Are you basing this on seeing them on Fox or DVD/Netflix?

    1. Unpredictable
    2. Not always coherent
    3. Statements that may not make sense at the time but do make sense later....such as when she looked at the Reaver they killed on the ship in Serenity and said "he didn't lie down...they never lie down" then we see what happened on Planet Miranda later
    4. Higher insight into things and people due to her telepathy pretty much switched on all the time.
    5. Extremely dangerous when provoked as shown in Serenity

Over the last few years I've been hearing on forums, on the internet, from various friends and classmates about this show and how great it was, how Fox messed it all up etc. I was impressed by the movie but not knowing anything about the show since I didn't hear about it until the movie, I never really knew what all the fuss was about.

Recently I saw it advertised over on Hulu and have been waiting for them to cycle through the series back to the first episode. The first episode came available the other day, I watched it, I watched it again.

I totally get it now. This show is really cool, only seen the one episode but well written, original, has a fun spirit to it and I'm very curious to see more.

To me beast is the least changed, though his furry incarnation seems to be a little early, but both Havok and Mystique could have been new characters.

What are your thoughts on the rewriting of characters, are there any that have been taken so far from the source that they you feel they no longer represent the name they hold, or are no longer the character you care about?

DC quite frankly either needs to suck it up and sit down with the Superman estate and hammer out a mutually fair and profitable deal, or else start grooming Captain Marvel/Shazam as the replacement to Superman if they lose the lawsuits.

The current DCU in my opinion is not salvagable as it currently is. I can name at least 4 characters whose histories are so convoluted that if they could make them more reader friendly by saying this is how everything is , they might become more popular.

    Power Girl
    Hawkman
    Donna Troy
Dick Grayson (Specifically, him being the original Robin Doesn't add up anymore)
The old Guard Justice Society members.

-Another thing that some people have problems with is Superman's marriage to Lois Lane.

I'd hope that DC learned from the mistakes of One Year Later which hurt more titles than it helped in the long run and alienated a lot of readers. While a total reboot may not appeal to some of you, it may actually be the smartest thing DC ever did.
DC AND Marvel are both in dire need of hitting the big red REBOOT button, just don't have Mephisto involved in it this time
