States, I think what alot of people are trying to say is this-

    ED blows.

    That is all.

    This sums it up.

While I also am not a big fan of I5 and share some of your concerns, your comment is incorrect. The CoH subscription base has held steady or increased each month since early 2005 (post WoW release).

    Numbers please?
Where did you get those Numbers?

Yes, but Jack also seems to be un concerned with the dwindling user base of COH as it stands now. Otherwise why would you nerf the hell outta almost every players characters and offer it up as an update.

  4. As one of the few that was also at the forum, some additional points:

    1. Jack and Cryptic have a "bible" of sorts, that details the entire world of CoH/CoV, including timelines and future developments. This bible was shared by all the game designers in putting together their projects.

    2. The forum was intended for discussing all the new products coming out in support of the MMOG. It was not intended to be a discussion on current MMOG issues (such as I5). Although there was some discussion here, IneffableOne was correct in keeping the discussion on track. There was plenty of time to discuss I5 or CoV issues face to face with the Cryptic people at the booth.

    3. Statesman is, without a doubt, a huge gaming geek His vision from early on was to bring these other games into the CoH fold, and he is always looking for new ideas. One attendee mentioned CoH card sleeves would be nice for the CCG, and he was immediately making notes to follow-up with AEG on getting it done.

    4. States was very cagey about the whole CoH/CoV question of how they will work together and cost. It appears that something interesting is in the works. I mentioned that Cryptic has basically created their own competition for CoH and this may not be a good thing, but Jack appeared unconcerned.

Thats all I can think of for now, as Skip's excellent post covered most everything else. Thanks to the entire CoH gaming team for a cool, informal and fun seminar!!!

Some of the players with the most passionate responses are also the ones who care the most about the game.

Being respectful to anyone is important, Devs included. I must say though, that over the past year it has seemed (I say 'seemed' not 'is') that the same level of respect is not always returned. And I don't mean that Devs are directly rude, but that they sometimes take what appears to be a condescending approach of You don't see the big picture, so you do not realize that what you are doing is not actually fun.

This ignores that some people spend almost as much time playing the game as a Dev spends working on it. It ignores that many players often are more current and aware of power changes(as a whole) than the Dev team sometimes appears to be. And it ignores the (I think) obvious problem of actually telling someone else that you know better than they do whether or not they are having fun.

There has also been much disillusionment over the Test server.

Folks spend hours and hours testing changes, give extensive feedback, and find widespread support of their findings, and then the changes go through to live as is. (Only to have the Devs find on Live the same issues that were reported by players on Test.)

There is much that goes into peoples behavior, and I think that the fluctuations in respect go both ways. It is just less subtle from the players side.

If we cared less about the game being great, we would just quit, not criticize.

I would like to end with a thank you to you Cuppa for still being an advocate for the community, even though we are so contentious. And one to the Dev team for making this game, which I have enjoyed greatly this past year+. You are obviouosly a talented team.

    Now about SS&SJ...

You know, I read through nearly all these posts, and Gallant's by far made the most sense to me. Thanks Gallant for an excellent response (without being too fanboyish like most here) that speaks for many players frustrated with current events.

    Changes to Rage

I had thought that Rage would be fixed/tweaked with today's update...

I think we all were expecting a fix. Sad really...
